I'm about ready to format my dad's computer (and save the files) just so all the shit that seems to be fucking it over isn't there any more. Just a pure Windows 8.1 install and a shitton of drivers. Right now I'm connected remotely because this computer surely can't operate.
But... It's Windows 8? I only had upgrade so I installed Windows 7 first (Because registry fix fucked for a friend so I didn't bother). The Network drivers was the first thing I spotted that didn't handle itself. Well, got a USB stick and copied the installer from my server instead of just copying it over network. Install Windows 8 and EVERYTHING works. Windows Update has improved A LOT and there is a lot of it working natively. I experienced a friend who had a similar problem where Windows 8 handled it no problem. What the fuck, just got a text from DPD saying my order from Currys will be delivered on the 3rd, I didn't even order anything.
Look at the Date?
All I can find about it is that the package is currently in Nottingham, I can't seem to find the order on my Currys PC World Business account, I'll have to call them later today.
I'm gonna get a High-DPI Screen when Windows stops being a cockslut about DPI Scaling.
Pfft. DPI scaling. I use my tablet at 100% Scaling (aka none) and it's 200 DPI, this display is only 157 DPI.
I honestly don't know when I will get a 4K display, considering it took me until late 2013 to get a 1080p display. I would like to get one with TV functionality like the 1080p screen I have now but that seems a long long way off.
Feeling like (as far as website jokes go) this april fools is pretty tame compared to the rest.
Pfft. DPI scaling. If I use DPI scaling, every menu is fucking blurry. GG Microsoft.

I'm fucking finally finished with finals. That feel when your paper has twice the amount of pages as everyone elses. I am smiliing so hard right now.
Did you guys see Microsoft's April Fools yet?
I don't get it, what am I looking for
I don't get it, what am I looking for
I guess the joke was too meta, referring to the "Honestly, you'll love the new Windows" campaign they've been doing for a bit now AFAIK. Not as bad as the one that /r/games managed to pull off, the mods made a throwaway account and framed one of the mods as being paid off by Sony to delete negative comments about PS4, first they went "I can't believe people are falling for this", and then they started setting new traffic records and had to come out and say it's an April Fools joke.

Still using 8.1 on my desktop. It's still just yet another Windows OS. My current theory is that people who hate 8.1 actually just hate Windows, but they're projecting the hate at 8.1 because they're stuck on Windows.
but everything is so tiny :( [editline]1st April 2014[/editline] I got a 13" ultrabook with 1920x1080 Resolution. If I use DPI scaling, every menu is fucking blurry. GG Microsoft.
I have Win8.1 on my rMBP. Windows itself scales fine, all the apps however... I think maybe Office 2013 is the only thing that scales? Either A: They look pixelated as fuck. B: They have their original resolution making it VERY small.
Personally i like how fast Win8 boots on my old and slow ass HDD. Especially considering i need to reboot every now and then when playing ME1 (HD textures on a 32-bit 360 port from 2007 isn't too stable at times) I'd imagine it would feel weird to transfer back to 7 now, although not waiting a min or so for task manager to open would be nice
Aye, the task manager opening in 8 and 8.1 is so bad, it makes more sense to just keep one open in the background in case a program manages to half-freeze the machine, since you can't actually get the fucking thing open when the CPU scheduler is throwing 95% of the cycles to a program that's obviously fucked up.

I should learn to type correctly on a keyboard, just did a few tests on 10fastfingers, can't get over 129WPM.

Most of the new features are (~opinions~) minor conveniences at best, and the start menu has been replaces with an interface that some people aren't too keen on. For me, windows 7 works perfectly fine and there's literally nothing in 8.1 that makes me go "That's a feature I really want!".
This is genuinely the funniest conversation I've had on Reddit, ever: http://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/21t43h/changing_the_pc_market_place/cggn7rb This guy just keeps on going, and going, and going, and going, and there's no holes in his tinfoil hat.

Mine opens instantaneously pretty much 99% of the time (the other 1% is when the entire computer is hosed).
