The v-size pot needs a tweak, but damn I'm jealous.
reminds me that I need to just go buy that 1-slot MVS board I saw on an auction site a while ago.
Anyone here use OwnCloud? Would it work for a business environment?
Been surprisingly impressed by a 1080i video today, seems like my TV is shit at deinterlacing. VLC handled it beautifully and I genuinely couldn't see any deinterlacing issues whatsoever. Skin tones in particular look fantastic whereas my TV running from Freeview would make it look as if they've got a tan.

I'm genuinely confused how TV channels make video so smooth on high framerate content. Only thing I notice is that they use MPEG2, interlaced, at 30 fps. 1080i actually looks pretty nice and smooth. As soon as you convert it, it looks like standard 30 fps video and is noticeably choppier (not in a bad way, but its not as smooth as the original broadcast video).

You must be doing something wrong.
You must be doing something wrong.
I must be, but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I tried converting several several ways (interlaced, 60 fps, etc) and none of them look right. There is either a horrible frameskip effect (60 fps did this), it isn't deinterlaced or it just looks like standard 30 fps video. Maybe its FFmpeg or haven't quite nailed the config down.
Anyone here use OwnCloud? Would it work for a business environment?
Used it and indeed trialed it in an SMB environment.
We found it more cost effective to go with Google Apps once you factor in a decent infrastructure to support OwnCloud for a decent sized business.
We ran Zentyal(SMB Shares,LDAP)+Zarafa(Email,Cal,CRM) for a while and that has been the best self-hosted solution we have used.

I think I remember someone saying that with delinterlacing you can have a perfectly good picture but its choppy or you can have a blemished picture but perfect framerate. I think I had the former, did stutter a bit in places, not awful but noticeable. Could be two things though, that A my CPU isn't powerful enough to do the conversion without stutter or that its a poor pulldown to 60fps from 25fps.

I honestly have no clue. It would just be nice to be able to convert them down so its not 100 MB/min, but still have them look at near broadcast quality. Basically, I want it to look 60 fps vs 30 fps, but without the noticeable interlacing sawtooth effect.
I guess fortunately I don't need to convert video like that often.

That's not how rendering/converting works.
poor pulldown to 60fps from 25fps
Erm. 25i would be 50fps, not 60.
Basically, I want it to look 60 fps vs 30 fps, but without the noticeable interlacing sawtooth effect.
You could just deinterlace it while playing it you know.
Erm. 25i would be 50fps, not 60.
Other way around, 50i would be 25fps once the conversion is done. Because an interlaced field contains half the detail of a pixel frame.

That's what I want. For some reason FFmpeg kept ignoring that. It would either hard deinterlace or just convert the interlacing straight over to progressive giving the sawtooth effect. I need it to leave it interlaced, unless H.264 doesn't support that for some stupid reason (which I sort of doubt).
[editline]1st April 2014[/editline]
Hmm, actually after reading a bit, maybe I'm using a field order which is different than what I'm converting. Well, off I go again.

the number refers to the number of unique images. 50i/50p So like 1080i would typically be 50-60i

When you deinterlace you're doing one of two things. Converting down to half field-rate so you're only seeing one field set. 60-30, 50-25. Or you're upsampling to full framerate and expanding each field to full height. 60i to 60p. So when you deinterlace you're likely just cutting out half the fields, that's typical. So you're not doing something wrong.

That's not how Sony Vegas does it, at least...but anyway
I always thought the number represented fields when talking interlaced, and not frames.
This shit's complicated.
Trying to make sense of audio cablery and connecting the RCA output of my PS3 to my 3.5mm speakers
ended up grounding the speakers to the ethernet port, w/e works
I think I may have gotten close to figuring it out. It turns out you need to set flags to explicitly tell the encoder to output interlaced (something along the lines of "-flags +ilme+ildct"). I may not have it exactly right (it has this weird rapid rubber band effect) but at least I know what to tweak now.

What does your bot do?
do it did what?
It follows around /u/Mr_Vladimir_Putin (So i called the bot Mr_Barack_Obama) which is a bot that posts the top comment from youtube on any youtube link submission, my bot points that out so i assume because i got banned so did the other bot. Best part is people replying "Thanks Obama" which summons like 3 other bots that all say "you're welcome" or something along those lines
Suddenly, everyone on reddit is actually a bot
Also i don't think this moderator on /r/roosterteeth realizes it's a bot:

-snippy, im retarded-
wow, this new psu i bought is already buzzing. welp, time to cram in my old, trusty 600 watt one.
[editline]1st April 2014[/editline]
actually, re-looking at the reviews for it, no one has said anything about it buzzing, but quite a lot say that the fan is loud because of cheap bearings.
so either im really unlucky, or the fan is just shit.

Vegas handles the fields for you. All you need to know is the full framerate. 25, then interlaced. Which isn't great. I would prefer to edit in 50, then interlace later.
But in any case, the number does, hence my example of 50p or 50i. 25fps interlaced is 50 fields.
Holy fucking shit, facebook. I've been trying to sell or trade some stuff over the past months, and it seems like at least a dozen people have sent me offers... that ended up in my "other" inbox, which facebook makes absolutely zero effort to notify me about. The worst part is that it's not like it serves any purpose, there's not even any spam in it or anything.
Guess that now I need to check that, manually, every day or so. Fuck facebook.

Not Mr. Ozols, not "Lavacano Ozols", just "Ozols".
