Could I just buy a domain from somewhere and set a subdomain to redirect to my home (dynamic) ip?
Namecheap has an application for Windows that auto-sets a subdomain/domain to your IP.

[del]As you can tell,[/del] I managed to get Samba working to the point that I'm now using it for my backups.

How am I supposed to tell anything from that picture? As far as I can see it's just some files being transferred.
Why is it so slow though?

We're proud of our free service and that's why we're cutting it. love, Dyn

So it does.
But yeah, I did managed to get Samba working on my server and right now trying to move my backup files onto it and set Windows to stop using my backup drive and use the server.
a class trip to russia is fun
some rum brought in and a lot of vodka bought = good times at 3am.
also energy drinks w/ alcohol and snus for the first time = bad
i am the machine
Why is it so slow though?
I've had Samba do that to me sometimes. Usually resetting the service fixes it though.
Why is it so slow though?
It's not on LAN and likely the fact I use HDDs in my laptop.

well now i know you can use vid tags for audio
is it just me or does ogg compression make trane's sax sound like boiled shit?

I wish they had the .ms TLD (my last name is Williams)
The only place I can really find it is 101domain and they recently raised the price from $35/y to $55
what is this called
so smooth
The Night Has a Thousand Eyes. It's off of a John Coltrane album called Coltrane's Sound. It was recorded in 1960, released in 1964 and I've always really loved the sleeve.

Yeah I know about willia.ms being taken so I was just going to add my first name to the front

The domain is like $80 on gandi :v:
I made a Docker image that sets up a local IRC server, so you can get a local IRC server with like 3 commands running, so that developing an IRC bot isn't painful, you can just run everything locally without fucking around with VMs or installing an IRC server on your actual operating system.
https://github.com/TheNikomo/dockerfiles/tree/master/ircd-hybrid
This is actually fucking brilliant, if you just need a service for like 15 minutes, you start up a Docker container, do your stuff and then shut it down, don't have to worry about having shitloads of server software installed on your laptop or desktop machine, or having to keep a virtual machine around.

but fucking around with virtual machines is half the fun.
Virtual Machines are cool.

For a 77kbps file, it could be worse.
An MP3 at the same bitrate would just be a bunch of gargled noise that vaguely resembles music.

Containers are cooler.
They're like miniature virtual machines that you can move around from machine to machine even easier, and if you set up a service that scales, you can just deploy a hundred machines running one container and instantly scale your webservice or whatever you're running.
Neat

The exact same could be said of hard drives.

but LTO3 :(
How long does it take to get information out of Amazon Glacier?
I recall it being fairly slow because it's an archival system, and not some stupid S3 clone setup.
