Get the HTC M8 then. Although it's not a gigantic upgrade from the HTC One, it's still a excellent phone if you're generations behind.

Touchwiz is laggy, ugly, and bloated as fuck
The screen is shitty in terms of sharpness because of their retarded PenTile display, and oversaturated colours (although some people like this for some reason)
The entire body itself is made from plastic weaker than sandwich wraps and all areas of the phone are easily scratched and damaged
Exynos CPU = forget about all original custom ROMs like cyanogenmod
etc etc etc

I'd really recommend getting the G2 or waiting until the G3.

That phone will not die as I found out judging from the dents on the edges and the still intact screen.
Also, roms are popping up for the international version of the S5.

imo, the S2 family was like the only line of phone that Samsung was actually getting right at the time.

Got Kitkat (Slimkat) on my Galaxy Nexus. It seems like they really worked out a lot of the kinks since the initial release. I haven't encountered a single thing that doesn't work or is funky. :v: Its pretty awesome that this phone still is running a current OS, despite being 2.5 years old.
I suppose that will tie me over until I can get a M8.

Haven't had any issues with touchwiz lagging on my Note 3, the only lag I've got is typing in a search into Chrome with swiftkey when I've started Chrome for the first time. Though I've had that on literally every Android phone I've owned.
My screen with a slightly lower DPI looks really sharp, even when I compared it to my Note 2's non-pentile screen. The only time I've noticed pentile being a piece of shit is on my Nexus S.
Oh god yes, their plastic is hilariously bad. The back on my Note 3 is slightly better since it's textured, but my Note 2's back felt like it was made from an old plastic bottle. Though I just have a bigass Urban Armor case on mine so it doesn't bother me.
In North America, they don't use the Exynos so that part isn't a problem. I don't bother with custom roms anymore since I need my phone to work. However, if you are the kind of person that uses custom roms and might want to use a warranty, you may want to consider something else since apparently they have an e-fuse that blows when a custom bootloader is used. There are workarounds, though.
The G2 is way cheaper, and is better imo

Even though I love my original Galaxy Note (which has CyanogenMod installed), when I need a new phone I'll probably buy something from a better company.
