Tape it to some sunglasses and have ultimate mobile gaming.
what's the res on it?
Monocular Oculus Rift.
Monocular Oculus Rift.
Monoculus Rift
that'd be amazing for a portable PS2 coupled it with HDloader and some headphones.
if I were to search for a similar thing on ebay what would I call it? "Camera eyepiece CRT"?
Monocular Oculus Rift.
Naw dude, rock an eyepatch with the screen on the inside, people will think you're badass and have no idea you're playing PS2
if I were to search for a similar thing on ebay what would I call it? "Camera eyepiece CRT"?
CRT Viewfinder?
So anyways, at work today someone brought in another rack full of old servers and junk to use. That included two massive RAID arrays, about twenty disks each, with a combined capacity of about 2TB. Then a couple 1U servers from the Pentium 4 era, and a large HP workstation. We don't do much locally - all our dev and deployment is in The Cloud. We already had about 5 servers that weren't even hooked up.
if I were to search for a similar thing on ebay what would I call it? "Camera eyepiece CRT"?
I'm sure you can just find whatever broken camcorder from the before-lcd time for a good price, since usually it's the tape mechanism or optics that break on camcorders.
if I were to search for a similar thing on ebay what would I call it? "Camera eyepiece CRT"?
better luck just buying broken mini-vhs camcorders for pennies until you find a working CRT.
Well, here I am rendering my phone to a keyboard / touchpad because my parents are asleep, and I'm still copying a lot of files from the XP machine. Like hot damn I love this phone. Its useful for so many thngs, including using your PC in stealth.
That was close. All my computer shit is in the basement and we've been having some really nice weather lately, so the snow is melting. Either our sump pump isn't doing a goddamn thing or there's just so much water to get rid of that the level in the sump was continuing to go up. When the water got 3cm from the top of the sump this morning, I said fuck it and drove to Canadian Tire to pick up a small utility pump which should pump about 1150 gallons an hour. Luckily, after 45 minutes of being plugged in, the water went down a couple inches. Crisis averted!
I had to use XP today. Good riddance, you piece of shit.
I use xp pretty much every other day if not every day...
I use xp pretty much every other day if not every day...
Prepare your arse. Microsoft isn't supporting it anymore.
Prepare your arse. Microsoft isn't supporting it anymore.
I kinda have to use it since some (like maybe around 100) are in the classrooms that I have to use them in. Or fix them if shit breaks (again).
Some Koreans managed to mod a 1920x1080 IPS panel into a fucking Lenovo ThinkPad X220. I'm jealous beyond belief right now.
Is it just a composite video connection or is there more to it than that?
Just composite. These things have really simple input circuitry.
I've been looking into these CRT viewfinders. They're pretty nifty. I'm going to try and get a hold of a broken camcorder and make my own mini display. I just wish they weren't so damn long but that's how it is for a CRT. And if you get an LCD, you have to figure out its input driver setup. Better just to get a CRT and vomit composite at it.
Still wishin' there was a standard for embedded LCDs in stuff, so many good screens from GPSs/digital photo frames/portable DVD players lost to proprietary digital connections
Still wishin' there was a standard for embedded LCDs in stuff, so many good screens from GPSs/digital photo frames/portable DVD players lost to proprietary digital connections
Agreed. If there was a standard for embedded video, there would be so much more opportunity for neat hacks with various devices. What about LVDS? It's got a teeny tiny connector that's just about perfect for tiny video. Why wasn't this picked up?

I'm pretty sure I have an oooold monitor from some Compaq laptop that uses some sort of standarized LVDS, but I still need a new ribbon cable and converter board for it, and I can't be arsed. If I could hook it straight to DVI or something like that, I'd definitely try and solder a connector.
I'm going through the "I could really upgrade my GPU" vs "My current GPU is still running everything" fight internally right now. I've got no problem passing on upgrading for at least like 6-12 months, but it's going to get real difficult after that, my 5770 is going to be fairly antiquated soon, when games finally start catching up to PC hardware. Hell, I do have to thank the consoles for keeping graphics down for so long, my 5770 has lasted me for an eternity.
Just put a mirror on it if it's too long for you.
but then it would be too tall...
but then it would be too tall...
You'd use it like this :
