I have 2 for some reason. :v:
The whole tower is just gathering dust though.
Driving games.
The 360 controller is seriously a beast for driving games.
Oh yeah I find the 360 controller much better, my fingers don't slip off the triggers.
Got my networking equipment, and it's amazing. The new router removes the throttling of Wlan speed imposed by the ISP router.
now I have 56mbit internet in wifi instead of 15mbit.
Next up on Reddit: script kiddies calling me unhelpful because I don't help them exploit Heartbleed.
Fuck this planet.
I wonder if the successor to the 760 is coming soon, it's seeing some pretty severe price cuts at the moment.
MSI Afterburner lets you set a custom fan curve. Presumably, the software it is based on, Rivatuner, does also.
Holy moly that's an awful design :v:
But hey, Thanks! Actually what I would liked to have. Now just to fine tune it.

It's pretty functional, just ugly.
HP Elitebook 8570w.
Awesome workstation, except for the fact that the HP Software shit is hitler.
I have an elitebook 8560w for school with 8gb ram, and its a pretty beefy powerhouse. A little lacking in the graphics department, but otherwise asstastic.
Holy hell the new Router I got is amazing.
Asus RT-AC68U AC1900
I never used such an awesome router before. So many options and features :o
Installing a CCTV system tomorrow. The IP cameras I have specified capture 2048x1536 at 15FPS or 1920x1080 at 30FPS. They weren't cheap but they are affordable for any business. So why do so many businesses still run CCTV that is inadequate for identifying a face?
Cable runs aren't a problem, they also do a HD-SDI version that can use existing coax cabling.
Recording to a 16TB array of WD purple drives.

Deterrents is a big factor and just because you get a good image of a suspect, it doesn't mean they will be recognizable to people or get caught later on. There was some video about security cameras.

You know asstastic is generally a negative term, right?
Oh finally my school stops blocking GCM. Time to get notifications and such.
I miss this for some reason. Nostalgia maybe.

Does anyone know of any studies that actually detail the negative side effects of using a computer for extended periods of time (10 hours a day, etc)?
The only studies I could find were either too specific (focusing on watching TV and playing video games) or aimed towards very young children.

Not for me

I don't have any studies, but I can tell you, using a computer for extended periods of time (10 hours) is not healthy.

Probably a storage/cost problem more than anything. You get a good image sure, but where are you going to store it. And how would it benefit the business over a standard CCTV system, and is it worth the investment? Many businesses are reluctant to make any changes to current systems. Hell, I've seen a few small businesses that still use VCRs.

I think most of the downsides are going to be similar to video games. Eye strain, sedentary lifestyle (and its side effects), less physical interaction, etc.
You can at least help counter the physical effects by taking regular breaks and regular exercise during the week. I'm trying to get better about it as I feel miserable and tired all the time.
You know asstastic is generally a negative term, right?
it is? I've never seen the term used in hostile or unfriendly situations. personally I find it to be a too silly word to begin with to take it any seriously

It's not the using a computer for 10 hours that kills you, it's the part where your body was engineered over millions of years to run after animals and literally kill them because they get too exhausted from running.
Doing anything for a long period of time is unhealthy because that means you're not doing the stuff your body needs to be doing on a regular basis, like moving.
Also, blood clots
Hey all. I know I posted this as its own thread, but I was graciously shown my way around to this one, so here it goes: I work for a print and promo company that's been around for about 7 years, and we're moving into a new office. I was hoping that we could use this opportunity to begin the necessary processes of digitizing our client files. We literally have tons of paper. We're talking somewhere in the area of 300,000 sheets with client information, banking info, contact info, proofs, etc. I was thinking of using combination Doxie and EverNote, but this database needs to network to at least 7 other computers, and I'm concerned with a few things including speed of upload, accessibility of info (we deal with a lot of clients on the phone, and would need to be able to pull up a file within sixty seconds or less on command), and security. Is there any chance I could pick your guys' genius brains for some tips and ideas for software and hardware on this project? Thank you all.
Disclaimer: when it comes to networking this database to the other computers, I am more lost than the TV series. Any help on any of these would be greatly appreciated.
<snip> stupid idea, gonna go to sleep. </snip>
There's software specifically designed for that purpose. Document Management Systems.
Some of them even have built in OCR to facilitate searching.
If it was me, given the time it will take to digitize 300,000 documents. I'd find a company that will stand behind their product if it all goes tits up.
Is there any way I can route a specific program through a VPN connection but not the rest of my windows environment?

I use proxycap for that, not 100% sure if VPNs is supported though
It looks like split tunneling needs to be enabled serverside and I doubt this free VPN service I'm using has it
So i go to work on a PC today and this happens.

Incoming "i came" joke.
When you've got dust caked on like that; what's the best way to remove it if compressed air isn't doing very well? Apparently make-up brushes cause static, is there a non-static alternative?
Just vaccum the thing while the entire machine is properly grounded to prevent static.
