Let's put a copy of Windows XP Pro as a Virtual Machine and hope to fuck that the key that I have works so the people working on this computer can use Ubuntu for general stuff and Windows XP for Windows only stuff. [editline]2nd May 2014[/editline] Also, kids can't fuck up a Ubuntu system with Window Programs.
Why does _regular_ shipping have to take so long? Amazon prime has spoiled me... =(
come on Steam, I want to play Dark Souls 2 online
So here's me sitting on my ass and installing XP in a VM [t]http://puu.sh/8wWrG[/t] [editline]2nd May 2014[/editline] Also, the tower under the monitor is a OPTIPLEX-GX620 which amazes me with it's trouble-less removal of drives without a screw driver. [editline]2nd May 2014[/editline] And since it has a floppy drive, I took the time to recover some DOS files from floppies.
anybody here good at adding comedic remarks into a voiceover, because i'm sure not. hmu on steam if you would like to help. also, went hunting pretty hard at a salvation army today. [t]http://share.manandtumor.com/b99US.jpg[/t]
so say we all
Computer REPAIRED Now runs Ubuntu 14.01 with a Windows XP Pro VM for Windows related tasks along with browsing and general nonsense. Also, the VM could be nuked and a backup could be cloned to get a fresh install of XP.
today i finished watching Battlestar Galactica. guys, go watch it. i thought it'd be a dorky dumb show but god DAMN that was good. really really good. it's on netflix too. go do it now.
Nu or old?
Dat Blazers game holy fuck. Down to less than a second.
Does anyone have the Samsung 840 EVO? Thoughts?
Last I checked it was the pretty much the best consumer ssd you could buy. I've got an 840 Pro and it's nearly two years old and still going strong.
I've finally decided that I should make my primary drive an SSD and I thought it looked the most promising. Just ordered one.
I've finally decided that I should make my primary drive an SSD and I thought it looked the most promising. Just ordered one.
Ever since I got an SSD, my computer spends most of the boot time posting
Does anyone have the Samsung 840 EVO? Thoughts?
I have a 120GB 840 EVO in my laptop. It's fucking brilliant. I'm doing like ~190-220 MB/sec buffered reads, with full disc encryption (LUKS on Linux) on a low-end laptop.
Does anyone have the Samsung 840 EVO? Thoughts?
I got one yesterday, it now takes longer for my screen to change resoluton than it does to boot.
Sounding good, thanks for the information. I went and got the 500GB model, which should be enough for OS/core programs and some games.
I got one yesterday, it now takes longer for my screen to change resoluton than it does to boot.
You sure it's something with your PC rather than the SSD?
You sure it's something with your PC rather than the SSD?

Startup finished in 1.793s (kernel) + 804ms (userspace) = 2.598s
My screen blanks for about 4s when changing from 720p from the bios to 1080p. It's not a great screen but it was free so I'm not too bothered.
seriously though Find out where the light meter is before considering using the manual modes. I felt like such a dumbass guessing, trying it out and adjusting before realizing there's a handy scale that tells you that it's going to be under/over exposed.
wait what? been using trial and error in the past 2 years now
I have 3 HDDs in my desktop machine. Made a virtual drive on each drive, hooked up to VM and software RAID0. VM: Laptop with the 120GB 840 EVO: Not bad, honestly.
I dunno why the SSDs I use in my old Thinkpad X131e gets half speed compared to my X230, same SSDs but the speeds seem very very different. I wonder why.

Just tried the UE4 Demos, so beautiful.
I just walked my dog in the woods and found an Xperia S. It's in pretty rough shape and shows no life except a red light when connected to USB. [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline] HOLY SHIT THE SCREEN BACKLIGHT JUST CAME ON [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline] Hmm, I will give it some time. It seems like a brick to me so far.
Just tried the UE4 Demos, so beautiful.
I wonder how the tools compare to the older ones. Another thought would be how Source 2 SDK would turn out.... Damn, so much anticipation.

I hope you'll find out who it belongs to tho.
just turn it off?
I'll be. I hope you'll find out who it belongs to tho.
I think it has been abandoned, there's no sim card in it and I have now concluded that it's a brick. It charges for 10 minutes, turns on with a blank screen for a while, and then goes back to charging.
