in your case, you want to flash the recovery to recovery, as simple as that.
in regard with your device not popping up, I have a feeling you need the drivers for your phone on the PC (kies or whatever it's called) for ADB to see it
You need the .img file from the cwm website, then you can use [code]fastboot flash recovery recovery.img[/code]
No idea if Samsung devices even have fastboot.

I'm sure you can use download mode instead, which works like fastboot (from what I've experienced). I think I recall flashing some stuff on my galaxy S2 via fastboot, but it might have been through ADB

I tried using Odin, but the damned thing always stalls at SetupConnection, so it's a bitch to get this phone back up and running.
