you're mixing up a video hangout and an ongoing text hangout
a video hangout you can give a link, a text hangout can start a video hangout though
my phone, on Wifi, with the Nine exchange app, gets pushed emails faster than my official Outlook client on my hardwired work PC. Good job, Microsoft.

ah I forgot. Haven't used G+ in a long time
I think quite alot of the software I use is open source software. Works fine for me, I do suppose however I don't just install a program and use it. I actually go into the settings and configure it.
holy shit yesssss
after buying and trying a bunch of crappy mice, I found my one true love again

they just look kind of shady but the price is so cheap
speaking of crappy mice, there was a chinese computer store in this chinese mall I went to a while back that had these 300dpi optical mice that was a dollar each. The store had a rather tall stack of it. I wanted to buy one for the entertainment value... Not sure if that store is around anymore tho.
Am i going to british hell? Yesterday I brewed a pot of Earl Grey tea in my coffee pot, this morning my roommate made another pot of earl grey instead of coffee. :v:
Its so delicious with a little cream and sugar.
GIMP and Photoshop. Same deal, except GIMP isn't as complicated in comparison to Photoshop.
Based off my experience, GIMP's only more "complicated" because you're used to the way Photoshop handles. Not particularly your fault, GIMP's quite different (and I've heard people complain that they can't do shit in PS because they're so used to GIMP).

Pretty much this, I have GIMP at home but college uses Photoshop which forces me to ask people where things are. Only real issue I have with GIMP is its name which is probably a PR disaster.
hey i don't frequent this thread (dunno why), but i thought this was worth posting here.

I'm waiting for the day someone thinks I'm sexually harassing them becuase I said "You should try GIMP".
Anyone here use Ultramon for Windows 8.1? It's installed okay but it doesn't seem to extend the task bar anymore, just makes a copy of it.

Just don't install the beta version at work

What do you need Ultramon for? 8.1 already has proper multi-monitor support.

So it does.... I honestly didn't even think to check. Thanks alot man.
What I like most about OSS Software is that in proprietary Software devs can say "Fuck it, I can't be assed to maintain this software anymore" and it will die because no one can maintain it to fix problems and errors.
I'm gonna make an example about Sublime Text.
Sublime Text is a proprietary text editor, and thus has no outside contributions, except for third party packages and plugins.
The dev is really slow at updating it. AFAIK this is because there is only one active developer. It hasn't seen a single update since December 2013.
If the software would be open-source, other people could improve the editor in places they seem fit, and fix problems or incompatibilities without having to rely on the single developer to fix it himself.
totally fucking late on this but i still have a question that no oss defender answered
how are software developers supposed to make money?

Stallman's solution is support contracts.
Some companies do dual-licensing (public project is GPL, but we own the project and we'll sell you the software under a different license if you need it), alongside support contracts.
Also, you can sell training courses and certification for your product, if you end up being a big product that's used in some industry.
Stallman scares me, I don't think I could talk to him without cowering in fear.

I'd give him a Windows license.

but is that really an option for indie devs
who would need a support contract for a small smartphone app

Smartphone apps can use advertisements, or pro versions.
Your app can be open source, and you can still have a pro version on the market.
Hell, the pro version functionality can be open without problems too, only a very small minority of people will ever bother to download the source, compile it, package it and then install it, and repeat that every time there's an update.

The DirectCUII heatsink is a beast and adds about an inch to the card length (at least with my 7870). Make sure that it will fit in your case (Mine has about 1mm of clearance :v:)

If that ever catches on though, you can bet your ass someone is going to make a cheap app that will automate this process for you.

If they use ads someone could easily remove the ads and redistribute it. Same thing with the pro version.
is that for real?
That was the splash screen for the 2.7 dev versions in 2011.

I tried to find the damn dimensions of the card online, but couldn't find anything, so I just YOLO'd it.
But I'm pretty confident.

Compiling an app on a standard consumer machine is painful as fuck.
It's a pain with iOS, and Android, the toolset is 10-25% of the monthly bandwidth caps in rural areas and it takes forever.
Or your little app that plays fart sounds and has 100 downloads could be closed source - not having source code becomes less and less critical the further you move away from the core of the experience.
I want my OS and toolkits open, but I don't mind a closed video game.
If they use ads someone could easily remove the ads and redistribute it. Same thing with the pro version.
That's already happening, but only with a very small minority of users.
Ad removal isn't really a thing amongst the casual users, but the pro version piracy is.
Then again, it's the standard piracy problem, and you can apply the usual arguments to that.

If the pro version is truly open source as you implied in your earlier post than it is the furthest thing from piracy.
