Isn't that the heatspreader?
It's kinda the same thing , a heatsink like a D-14 also spreads the heat to exhaust it.
Usually a heat-sink is clamped to the integrated heat spreader (IHS), a flat metal plate the size of the CPU package which is part of the CPU assembly and spreads the heat locally, with a thin skim of thermal paste between them to compensate for surfaces not perfectly flat.
Got an HDD for the power mac today, and it works!

I'm still going to convert it at some point probably, but hey, it works

That case has to still be my favorite looking tower case of all time.

Garry said it best:
PC manufacturers have kind of got it wrong for 10 years when designing gaming PCs. I don't want a computer that looks like a motorbike, I'm not 12 years old. I want a PC that doesn't look out of place in my living room.
[editline]19th May 2014[/editline]
Also I love reading articles like this:
* LINQ: LINQ is effectively lambda expressions plus a bunch of extremely useful standard functions that use them. C++11 introduces lambda function support; I’m not sure how well the standard library was improved to allow their efficient usage, though.
Sure. Stuff like this is a lambda expression:
var notPlayers = PlayerList.FindAll( x => x.PlayerID != FindID );
var banPlayer = PlayerList.Find( x => x.Username!= BanName );
Stuff like this, however, is not:
var results = from c in SomeCollection
where c.SomeProperty < 10
select new {c.SomeProperty, c.OtherProperty};
foreach (var result in results)
{
Console.WriteLine(result);
}
This type of syntax makes it very easy to naturally query a SQL table in your C# code.

why is your mac partition not called "Macintosh HD"
[editline]19th May 2014[/editline]
this is against the law

I'm wondering if its worth it bringing in GIMP on a USB stick at college. College uses Photoshop but I just can't navigate my way around it and its wasting minutes of my time which I don't really have to spare.

Or you could just use Photoshop more outside of class so you can get used to it.
Or you could just use Photoshop more outside of class so you can get used to it.
Yeah, it'll help later in life helping others or using it in work to know how to do both somewhat decently instead of just one really well.
Or you could just use Photoshop more outside of class so you can get used to it.
Bit overkill to spend money when I would only need to use it once in a bluemoon. I somewhat doubt also that I would be using if I ever get to be a sysadmin.
what about the 30 day trial?
Or just get the Photoshop CC subscription for a few months.
30 day trial and keep turning the clock back on the PC :v:

I would never learn anything, the stuff on my PC is a big distraction. I can't get the subscription either, I don't even have £1 in my bank account as it stands and when I do have money I want to spend it on things that will entertain me.
if you wanna compromise i guess you could use gimpshop
it is gimp but made to look like photoshop so i guess it is a good way of transitioning
you should still do the gimp running off a usb stick thing though, that just sounds like a generally useful thing to have

didn't go down for me during whatever the fuck the last hour was
[editline]20th May 2014[/editline]
i did lose access to reddit, fp, and sites like the verge and facebook were acting up
I heard shitloads of people had connectivity issues, I wonder if this ends up generating a few news articles.
Huh, just thought it was me. Had a pretty major storm roll through here within the hour.
Probably the NSA anyway

yup
Make sure cats aren't nearby your keyboard when editing firewall rules. I was making a rule to block 192.168.0.0/16 on the WAN interface of my router and just had to select the interface. My cat decides laying next to me on the desk wasn't enough, so he walked across my keyboard and sat down on a bunch of keys, one of which must have been enter. Winbox disconnected and I couldn't get back in, thank fuck my VPN was on a completely different subnet otherwise I'd be doing a factory reset or trying to build a console cable.
So it wasn't just me whose internet went down for hours?
First it got cut off for no reason. Then after a while it started going back up but I couldn't access most sites.¨
I did a tracert and it showed the connection working until it had to access anything outside my ISPs network.
Now it seems to work. Wird.
