As a student it looks basically perfect for what I want to do. Hadn't heard about the device being broken (was only announced on Anand's twitter it'd seem), but really I wouldn't extrapolate from that. I don't do any colour-sensitive work, so I don't think greyscale performance will really bother me too much, especially if the display is otherwise really nice.
The numbers say it's pretty nice otherwise, although you'd be surprised by how much grey you see and when something like the Facepunch background is literally green and you're used to it being grey it's somewhat jarring. I guess you'd get used to it? It's just disappointing because it's obviously a custom panel and Microsoft could have held it to any standard they wanted. The other thing is that Windows scaling is still bad, especially in third party apps. They really need to implement a backing scale system where applications can specify which UI elements render at 2x and which don't so you can have the advantages of HiDPI for increased sharpness and more real estate at the same time. A big part of that issue is that there's not really any loyal Windows developers that follow design guidelines so every program looks different and so nobody knows if such a feature would even end up being used by developers. Also I guess it depends how much time you want to spend in Metro (or Modern UI?) because Metro apps don't screw up with HiDPI.
Mouse buttons and the extreme use of using my headset mute mic when its voice activation is how I roll.
i use the top most side mouse button as PTT, which also unfortunately controls forward and backward on webpages.
Mouse buttons and the extreme use of using my headset mute mic when its voice activation is how I roll.
I'm cool with mouse buttons in most games. But I've been playing WoW a bit lately, again, since there's an expansion coming and stuff - not happening. Maybe after the expansion, but the mouse buttons are still a bit too convenient to give up after the amount of skills is radically reduced.

The thing is, there really aren't that many products to get really excited about in the Windows scene. I mean, there are the Yoga 2 and the Dell XPS 12 and such products, but they've been lacking in one way or another (mostly price and battery life). The SP3 actually seems like a really nice product, if your use case fits the bill. I think mine does, and I guess that's why I'm pretty excited for it. But yeah, there are still a lot of problems with the Windows ecosystem, but I really don't think MS and devs will get around to fixing it properly before there's wide-spread adoption of HiDPI devices. I'm not one to get worked up over such things, I've been living with a trackpad that has been pure hell (like, one moment it's working great, the next it's literally all over the screen) for basically 3 years (it worked prior to that), so I have some leeway for products. Not really directed at your post all that exclusively, but that's pretty much where I am.
Anyone know if Microsoft are planning a refresh of the RT surface? I had planned to buy the Lumia 2520 once I had the cash as it was only 399 including the keyboard cover, but its been withdrawn from sale in the UK (electrocution risk).
hidpi windows devices would be more common place if the support was there, not the other way around

I hope not, the SRT is a weird middle ground nobody really needs. I'd rather they put all of their money into Pros
it's alright, kinda bland though. it feels the same as bf4 and bf3, just pointlessly shooting boring guns at people not playing the objective
why do they want $60 for it I'd maybe pay $15 for it if it was a bf4 expansion pack thingy
I would really like to see Microsoft release an Atom powered 8" Surface.
well fuck you very much chrome
I'm already sick of hearing about E3. Some people on my friends lists just won't shut the fuck up about it. Every trailer, lecture, interview or whatever shows almost nothing about the actual games. I do not pretend to grasp why I should be interested in the slightest for any of this vomit.

E3 this year is pretty good so far, but holy fuck there's some dumb shit being done.

It runs okay ish for now, I expect optimization patches soon their scripts that cause levelation to happen can cause massive frame drops I've noticed but other then that it's ok. Not bad. What resolution are you running at? Although there are slowdowns, at least they're gradual and in the same area, likely a high activity moment. No very noticeable massive spikes.
1600*900 forgot to mention editing post
Seems like it runs smoother than bf4

It looks like a trash can but I want one. I also would want to build my own "TrashPC" as a project.
I've always wanted to try out the Hackintosh thing. Is it difficult?
You have to have just the right hardware, and even then it requires a lot of fiddling.
I've always wanted to try out the Hackintosh thing. Is it difficult?
As far as I know it's pretty hacky in the way some things work, and you're very limited on the hardware you can put in it. Basically the same thing as a real mac (hurr)
