I have a very ideal motherboard and graphics card combo (Gigabyte GA-Z68x-UD3H-B3 and HD 6850) that makes it less of a hassle. That said, I had to fight audio drivers, but beyond that, everything works. Sleep mode, rebooting, graphics acceleration. Some hardware configurations are definitely easier than the others.
And having your Windows boot drive plugged in when you run the installer also fucks with the MBR of your boot drive or something. I couldn't boot into Windows after. Said fuck it, ripped the 840 EVO out of my ultrabook, and basically upgraded my desktop SSD. :v:

I do know IBMs are really tough and the Thinkpad series don't focus on trends but reliability, but this thing got me curious if somebody is able to confirm it.

It's not any sort of quasi-random thing for the link filter. Every single link goes through it.
It's just their link filter fucking sucks and isn't always transparent.

There's a list of URLs in Steam's files, you can easily remove the linkfilter entry and break it, but nope, Steam does not like that, every time you restart, it'll replace the file
If you set the permissions so steam can't touch it, too bad it just replaced the file
Set the permissions so that NOTHING can write to it, fuck you, it won't load the file and breaks everything else in the process
