I have the PadFone 2, had it since late 2012, and I'd recommend not to buy that. the build quality is terrible, there are literally no ROM's (no developer attention at all), ASUS not able to keep up with updating the android version, the tablet dock's battery died for literally no reason two times, and an update from them even fried my PadFone (not only my device, all devices that got the update).
I'm still stuck on 4.1.1, even though 4.2 was promised ages ago, same with 4.3, and they've not held their deadlines to publish 4.4 either.
the tablet dock is really just a gimmick. it messes up with custom launchers and programs too. if you really want a tablet, buy it separately.
I can't stress how much I would advice you not to buy the PadFone. I despise mine and the tablet isn't even being used due to all the problems it causes with my custom config on the phone itself. I can't wait until I can replace this thing
^I strongly agree with PredGD. The Padfone itself only serves to a very limited niche market, and its initial wow factor will wear off very shortly after you've gotten the device. The whole concept itself merely serves as a gimmick to attract attention for interest, but its practicality is very limited and flawed.

If you were ever interested, they all have pretty neat salvageable stuff, stepper motors, linear rails. People have built 3d printers, laser cutters etc. out of old printers and scanners.
