Is Chromium any better or is it still just like Chrome

Google activated the "all non-google-webstore apps are malicious" feature in chrome, which was announced months ago.
People told me it's piss easy to disable it.

speaking of the devil!
Aparently If you have extensions (not userscripts) you have 2 options:
* Push the extension as a "hidden" upload on the chrome webstore, making your upload subject to googles policy
* Install Chrome Dev Channel or Chrome Canary
[editline]13th June 2014[/editline]
And FP told me a few months back that I was wrong and it would be piss easy to circumvent it.
oh boy

yeah, this is really annoying. there's always tampermonkey, but I keep hearing "horror" stories (if you'd call it that) that it makes stuff load slower etc, making some sites unusable because of how slow it loads the userscripts. don't have any personal experience on it though, so don't quote me on it
suppose I'll upload it to the webstore as a hidden extension I guess. will most likely move to firefox in the near future, really loving it on Linux. feels sluggish for whatever reason on Windows from my experience.

You can also unpack the CRX (it's a zip file), open up chrome://extensions, tick "Developer mode", and click "Load unpacked extension...". It's more involved, but it's a process you go through once per extension, and it's a good start in trying to prevent malicious extensions.

you couldn't install userscripts without developer mode activated in the past either though iirc. even with it on, it'll disable it anyway.
[editline]fakeline[/editline]
yup, just grabbed a random userscript and it'll forcefully disable it even with developer mode enabled. ughh

It has been incremental. Initially, all .crx and .user.js files were a one-click install, then it transitioned to a download first, then install by clicking on the downloaded file in Chrome, and now they're increasing the steps to install 3rd party extensions. They're not trying to make it impossible, they just want to make it safer for your average user.

wasn't it already "hard" enough to install extensions not present on the chrome webstore? if you really wanted a perhaps malicious userscript installed, you'd be 100% sure you're the one installing it since you have to enable developer mode and install it manually from that page. if a person is infected by a malicious userscript then I'd say it's all on that person. just feels unnecessary to make it even harder to install userscripts to the point where it's not possible anymore without using tampermonkey or uploading it to the webstore.

I did some tests. You can use Unpacked extensions on chrome, but everytime you start chrome, it pops
up a message saying "Extensions in developer mode can contain Malware, if you are not a developer, please deactivate these extensions to be safe.".

oh right, got that working now. super annoying though. think I'll be switching to Firefox instead, already loving it on Linux so shouldn't be too bad on Windows.
if it wasn't for cloudflare though. I can't get past "checking your browser" thing when on Firefox. any clues?

after 5 seconds, it just reloads the same page
Just saying, Firefox doesn't do any of this shit. And it has an Adblock that actually blocks, not just hides elements after they're loaded.

that fixed it, thanks!
I can't put my finger on it, but Firefox feels so much heavier than Chrome for some reason. it just feels sluggish, but at the same time I don't feel like that's the right word for it.
it works so much better when used on linux from my experience with it.

If you don't mind using regedit, you can specify sources to permit extensions from by using enterprise policies. Additionally, you can set it to "<all_urls>" to permit any extension from anywhere.
Wait why buy it now? i thought it had like no variety and it was basically dead with MP.
What gave you that idea? I still play it regularly, it's very, very alive and it has as much variety as... well, all modern shooters.
If you don't mind using regedit, you can specify sources to permit extensions from by using enterprise policies. Anything that involves Regedit for something that simple should really be frowned upon.
Problem is I can't watch youtube videos with firefox. It just grinds itself to a halt.
Wat? Why don't you use magic actions for youtube.
http://chromeactions.com/
Youtube and any video content loads just fine in my firefox, i am using Firefox 30 atm.
Try that? Also waterfox is basically firefox 28 with 64 bit support.

Firefox handles rendering in the main thread, so it's just unusable on my laptop because it's so slow.
I use it on my desktop though. Which right now, is dead. I have the motherboard out of the case while I do stuff and try to get everything working again.
