I just got paid for a real life transaction via paypal by a coworker. I don't know how I feel about it
Once I went to maccy d's drive through with a friend but he had no money so he paid me via PayPal.
Am I the only one that doesn't have a paypal since they limit how long your password can be?

Probably
45ping in a BF4 server over 5ghz N, this is lovely to see again. Too long has it been 800ping or something.

Can anyone convince me why I should build a home server, and what I can do with it?
Also I'd name my router 'Live off the fatta' the LAN' if I could.

File server, small game server, VM host, among other things. Its really completely up to you.
Can I use it for multiple things, like for both storing files and acting as a media center?
"SNK"'s my current hotspot name but now i'm considering Fat of the LAN (pw: prodigy) or Share the LAN (pw: guesswho)

How does shit like this keep getting automatically installed in Firefox without prompting me?
The Lay of the LAN
It changes random words on pages to be links to ad-filled sites.

Check your windows add/remove programs. Likely it got installed as a program and it continously inject into FF.

I use my home server for the following:
* Project management (Atlassian Confluence)
* Ticket Management (Atlassian Jira)
* Git Hosting (Atlassian Stash)
* Personal File Storage (Seafile)
* OpenVPN Server
* Private Image and File upload service
* Gameserver hosting
* Small Website hosting (Nginx)
* VM Hosting (Hyper-V)
* And probably some others I forgot.
Further question, paul, would be what kind of sites are you going to that do that shit?

Servers aren't limited to one thing. As long as it has the resources, you could have it being a domain server, web server, DNS and DHCP server, file server, email server, and butt server all at the same time. Your only limit is your imagination....and how much effort your willing to put in. And RAM.
Alright then, I might consider it. Which is a better CPU to base it all on, an AMD A4 or a Celeron?

A TV with only 4000 pixels? Damn that's vintage.
get AdwCleaner
AdwCleaner is the absolute best thing to happen to me, it gets fucking everything, saves me a lot of time when relatives manage to click some shitty ads. Unchecky is also amazing.
Alright then, I might consider it. Which is a better CPU to base it all on, an AMD A4 or a Celeron?
Depends on which Celeron as that's pretty vague with 15 years worth of Celerons. :v:
But if your primarily using a server for file stuff, it may not actually matter. The network connection will be your biggest bottleneck. Beyond that, it will be your hard drives. However since you brought up media use, CPU may be more important if you are going to do real-time transcoding (so you can stream different formats to embedded devices like a game console or Blu-ray player). Blindly though, I would choose the AMD.
You will also need to decide on the OS. Most likely you will use Linux, but if your a student, you can also get Windows Server from MS for free. Setting up Windows shares in Server is stupid simple and usually just works, at least compared to Samba in Linux. That's entirely personal preference though. If you go the Linux route, don't bother with installing a Desktop Enviroment. Its a waste of RAM for something you will rarely look at. Most Linux server configuration is done through the terminal and text files anyway.

It can run on rechargeable batteries that you can still get new. I just wish it was stereo.

No colors, either.
But it has a handle, and has a feature that makes it turn on instantly (I guess it just keeps the CRT running). This feature was called Speed-O-Vision because, well, it was the 70's.
dat coil whine
Nope, it's actually not making any noise at all so far, except the normal hum from the speaker.

I guess, but you could usually only hear it in some locations of the room, and some people can't hear it at all. Some TVs are worse than others, too.
after installing my new SSD, my computer began making really loud metallic noises. just now I realized what it is, and it's the HDD's vibration making the loose SSD vibrate all over when the HDD is in use :v:
would maybe be a good idea to put the SSD properly into the drivecage

It's not going to damage the SSD but if the noise is annoying then yes
velcro tape is amazing for SSDs. put it on the back of your mobo tray
