why? why wouldn't you just buy a tablet to serve the same function?
or a big android smartphone. put ARM linux on that and enjoy all the impracticality you'd ever want in a smartphone
Clamshell design has so many design possibilities with modern technology, that's a good enough reason to investigate the idea.
Large widescreen touchscreen on the inside, with a nice physical keyboard, and yet another touchscreen on the back - multitask that bitch, have some document stuff running on the inside, and your typical phone stuff in the outside screen, so you get a call, answer with your bluetooth headset, flip the phone open and check out a document (or two side-by-side, with a wide enough high-DPI screen) and discuss about it, like business people often do in commercials that have no bearing on reality.
Or just run 2 Reddit apps on both screens. Or use the outer screen to broadcast edgy messages on a train while you surf Reddit on the inner screen, such as "there is no god", and "Obama is a fascist".
those are mostly things people would have no practical use for in a phone. perhaps in a larger form factor tablet
you are a niche user. it's okay to want those things to come back, but they aren't
nobody wants keypads, clamshell or multitasking like you describe it.

Just buy 2 phones!

The Xperia tablet P has shown us that there is no desire in the market for clamshell tablets or anything else, except the Nintendo DS.
and tape them together

The Yotaphone is a pretty interesting concept.
in what world is this a practical design
and put the actually useful display in your sweaty palm?
I think its pretty cool, the idea is you can flash notes, maps and messages to the eink panel on the back and read them without using any power.
If you want a shitty device with both e-ink and full LCD capabilities just buy a Notion Ink Adam.
I completely forgot about that thing, did they ever get the Adam II out after the first flopped?
Yes but it's not Pixel Qi which was kinda the big thing about the Adam I, but it does have some weird secondary display ripped off of a calculator or something on the side of the device. Nobody really reviewed it.
I have discovered the perfect phone for me would be like a 5-6 inch tablet. I'd have powerful enough specs and a big enough screen to do anything I want, and then I wouldn't have any phone service for people to try and communicate with me.
I hope E-Ink displays on the backs of phones become a thing because it seems like they're super convenient. Think about how many times you've unlocked your phone to read a text you're not going to reply to or to find out it was just a dumb facebook notification about something that actually has no bearing to you (also you can read on your phone without using so much battery).
If you don't want to use the screen it can just turn black and blend in with the bezel
The Xperia tablet P has shown us that there is no desire in the market for clamshell tablets or anything else, except the Nintendo DS.
There was a lot more wrong with the tablet P than just the clamshell design, though.
RouterBoard 2011UiAS-2HnD-IN?
How are they?
Rock solid so far. It's could be a bit daunting to setup if you've never configured enterprise-grade routers before, though they have a half-decent wiki. You have a ton of options to play with, it makes DD-WRT look like a toy.
The only issue that I have at the moment is that the VPN setup is a bit tricky. I have IPSec/L2TP VPNs setup on the Mikrotik and my VPS, though I can't get either to connect to each other. I thought I'd try doing an OpenVPN tunnel between them, though the Mikrotik doesn't seem to like the certs I have for it...
Since its running Android, its going to be going flat on you at shitty times more often than not.
Well, in my experience the Jolla's battery life isn't that wonderful, either.
I think it's actually Alien that's killing it, though.

So... a phablet with the SIM card missing.
I love my Optimus G Pro I picked up for $220 off Swappa, it's a big 5.5" phablet that does everything that it needs to and roughly fits that criteria (although I keep my SIM in it).
This may make a few of you cringe, but our only git server for all company projects has not been backed up once in its 4 year life.
Why.
Why would anyone allow this?
But I need to explain this though.

I had this crash on me earlier, what the hell is it
My perfect phone would be a Nokia Lumia with Android.
The hardware is nice as hell but I don't want to switch to Windows Phone (since I have to buy all new apps and stuff.)

but how can you buy apps when there are no apps in the first place :o
Due to a thread on /g/ I decided to make a special homepage for my browser. Am I the only one that does something like that or do you guys just use speed dial type stuff.

i don't have a homepage. i just open my tabs from last time
[editline]23rd June 2014[/editline]
i mean, i don't tend to forget what websites i visit all the time :v
Nor do I, but it's just an ease of access type of thing.
i still don't think it would be useful to me, i can already just type the first two letters of the site i want to go to and my browser autofills
but how can you buy apps when there are no apps in the first place :o
All the more reason why I'd prefer to have Android. Despite a lot of apps being awful, there's still a bunchload of awesome apps.

Honestly, Speed Dial 2 is about as simple as it gets for that kind of stuff.

Speed Dial is good enough for me. The only real problem I have with it is that some sites have nice icons while others just have a snapshot of the page.

Is there a way to add/change icons in Opera? I'd assume it's possible somehow.

Mine's still set to Google.com
I had a picture of Cristina on there when they let you upload your custom wallpapers.
If I get bored I might build one like that.
