I haven't watched TV since back when we changed all our TVs to LCDs. They all take a fucking eternity to switch channels, and since they've changed the numbers over the years and my main method of watching TV was zapping, I can't enjoy it at all anymore.
I never noticed before, but now that you mention it, flat screens do seem to take longer to change channels than crts. I wonder why that is?
I turned on my TV for the first time in months today. Why? Because my copy of Soul Calibur II came in, and Gamecubes don't have HDMI out so I couldn't use my monitor instead.
I never noticed before, but now that you mention it, flat screens do seem to take longer to change channels than crts. I wonder why that is?
Likely due to the software in the TV doing some unnecessary stuff.

You know that eye bleeding static and shit signal? Well most flat screens usually give you a black screen and tell you the signal is broken so your eyes don't explode

My LCD does (same analog signal). I guess it has to do with LCDs needing to convert the analog signal to digital to display it or something like that.

It has to not only lock onto the signal and convert to digital, but perform post-processing on the video, which range from basic deinterlacing (which is standard on every digital flat panel TV since forever) to 120 hz interpolation. It has to create a small buffer to do this so its not instant (and since broadcast is the speed of realtime, you have to wait for enough time to fill that buffer). This is also what causes input lag. Even with a digital signal, it can take some time as it still has to process the video stream. Though which one takes longer depends on the TV. I've had some where analog is pretty quick but others where digital is much faster. Analog TVs just had a computer controlling the tuner and analog circuits would actually do the hard work which is instant, since old video formats are designed around the limitations of analog TVs. Problem is, analog television broadcasts are dying rapidly so those are now next to useless when working with digital signals.
It's the same price for it as your regular package. Cheaper in our case since we're dropping any time calls.
Yeah its only £9 a month more for us, £9 more for a 12x increase in speed seems like a deal to me. Its convincing my Dad that is the issue, he likes to be cheap as possible.
Well this is enough kludging for one day. Got a GeForce 5700 LE in the Win98 machine now, with a Delta fan. Acoustics fit for only a server room. :v:
the other day I dusted my desktop but while dusting I took off the heatsink and put it back on without putting on new paste because I'm dumb, so after my bios gave me a cpu temp warning I shut it down and left it off until I could get thermal paste (today). so I opened it up today and took off the heatsink again, made sure to clean it really well (I even took the cpu off and I was nervous as fuck), put the new paste on, put the heatsink on, closed it up, and booted... but my bios hw monitor said the cpu was at 90C so I shut down again, took off the heatsink, and realized it wasn't quite on correctly, so I spent an hour getting it on and then booted again, but I forgot to plug the fan back in, so I shut down as soon as I noticed, switched it off, plugged it in, booted back up, and got a shit ton of problems and I thought I fried the cpu or something. it took 3 tries to get to the bios, another try to get to windows, and then it restarted itself again halfway through starting up windows, so I thought windows got fucked as well. I tried startup repair, safe mode, and even booting from my windows cd to try to fix it, but even the cd froze, so I thought I was completely fucked but all it took was unplugging and replugging the fan and now it's perfectly fine :suicide:
The SSD I put into my PC is hanging in the air by the SATA and Power cables. :)
The SSD I put into my PC is hanging in the air by the SATA and Power cables. :)
But if you bump your computer you might damage the... oh. Right.
i hope the ssd swings off and scrapes a trace on ur gpu
The company I ordered my motherboard finally got a date on when they'll be receiving the motherboard. Somewhere around next week's Friday, and postal services jerk off during the weekend, so it's going to take 2 weeks to get my fucking motherboard. Fucking summer, everyone's building a new computer during the summer.
i hope the ssd swings off and scrapes a trace on ur gpu
I hope you step on a LEGO.
i hope u step on a uk plug
i hope u step on a uk plug
I hope you do the mamba in the middle of a minefield.
I hope you do the mamba in the middle of a minefield.
i hope your parents tell you you're adopted.
This could be a good Fast Threads thread.
RIM pls, if only it wasn't running QNX!
It's not RIM anymore, remember? and just call it BBOS.
I feel sorry for Americans with your internet speeds, I find it incredible how backward your infrastructure is. I managed to get a deal here in the UK on Virgin Media to get 120/12 for £20/m. Which I share with my housemate. (no phone line fuckyes)
It's not RIM anymore, remember? and just call it BBOS.
Didn't they change the name of the company to BlackBerry since that's the only thing that they are known for
i don't think they're known for much at all these days :v
If I could have that phone, running Android and with a bigger screen and Galaxy S5 type specs, I'd be happy.
Erm, what the fuck happened here?
Erm, what the fuck happened here?
Someone tested their push in production. Oops.
Someone tested their push in production. Oops.
Better still, it was sent twice. Someone at the Beeb is having a right giggle back there.
Well someone somewhere just got told to pack their things and then got escorted out of the office :v:
