So if I understand you correctly, you want to route all the traffic from all the computers you have at home through the home router, and then through the phone via Android tethering?
If so then the simplest thing to do is to set up a computer which acts like an gateway. I have no idea of how you do this with Windows, but with Linux (Any distro) you only need to connect the computer to the router by cable (or wifi), and the phone by usb (or wifi), and then type these commands (with cable and USB Tethering):
#Go root
sudo su
#Enable ip forwarding
echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
#Set up NAT
iptables --flush
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -j ACCEPT
#Set up the correct network routes
#Get the external ip for the android tethering with ifconfig and switch it out with the x's below
route del default
route add default gw x.x.x.x netmask 0.0.0.0 dev ppp0

Yes, I want to make my Android phone the source of the Internet (I guess via wifi so I can put my phone in the areas of my home where it gets full bars and fastest LTE connection).
Now to find, install and configure a Linux distribution onto a computer that I also need to find..
my 4k monitor has a displayport but my computer uses a mini displayport
WHY ARE 1.2 DP TO MINIDP CABLES SO HARD TO FIND
FUCK
[editline]2nd July 2014[/editline]
i mean shit
will this cable support 4k @ 60hz

FUCK IF I KNOW
IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT FOR 2 HOURS NOW
THE GUY AT BEST BUY DIDNT EVEN KNOW WHAT A MINI DISPLAYPORT WAS
YES I AM MAD
sorry
It's a goddamn cable, what's there to figure out?
only displayport 1.2 supports 4k at 60hz and NO CABLE MANUFACTURERS state if their displayport crap is 1.1 or 1.2
i found ONE overpriced DP 1.2 cable that would work but it would take a week to get here and i'm getting headaches from using a monitor stuck at 30hz
you have no idea how frustrating it is to use a 30hz screen
I went to a couple stores trying to find a mini dp adapter, but no one...anywhere...has heard of it. I bought two from monoprice, along with a couple hdmi cables.
[editline]2nd July 2014[/editline]
Prety sure a dp cable is a dp cable, its the ports that are different.

You do realize the displayport specifications only matters to the hardware of the devices you're connecting with, and not with the actual cable right? The physical cable has always the same, it's the eletronics of the devices that's different.
I guess it's possible for a really shitty cable to have degradation, but it seems unlikely over a short distance. I have had that happen with some old 15 foot USB 1 cables I had. They were about 80% effective vs new cables when using USB 2. I never tried them with USB 3 since I threw them out shortly after getting replacements, and at the time the only "USB 3" device I had was a printer.
I definitely didn't need to keep them. I have more 3-6ft USB cables than I could fathom a purpose for.

oh ok
so this is guaranteed to give me 4K at 60hz?

Amiga if you read this, do you still have that tutorial for getting LXDE running on the Nexus 7?

it would have to be a super shitty cable. especially at consumer lengths digital video cables won't vary in real life display quality
I wonder if apple stores carry dp cables? Probably ridiculously expensive. :v:
thunderbolt cables
Today I set up HDMI over fibre :v:
HDMI -> HDMI-Cat5-TCP/IP converter -> Media converter -> Long-long-long run of Fibre -> Media Converter -> Cat5-TCP/IP-HDMI Converter.
Works a treat, the converters are not lossless (I believe they just blast jpeg frames over UDP) however so it isn't perfect but it didn't need to be. I just love the fact it worked. It's fibre because that was what was in the building.
but they're a bit more complex of course, but they do support DP and use miniDP connectors
but they're a bit more complex of course, but they do support DP and use miniDP connectors
thunderbolt cables will NOT work as displayport cables, I tired. the PC used MUST have thunderbolt support.
MiniDP monitors can take thunderbolt as an input though

While this is more of a functionality than a quality issue, I have heard of poor quality dual link DVI cables not being able to push 2560x1440 at 120Hz on those overclocked Korean monitors so there are some fringe cases where people need to be careful about the cables they buy. Dual link DVI doesn't have any real specs relating to max speed and the minimum only has to be somewhere around 10Gbit/s (or 8Gbit/s after 8b10b overhead) which is less than the 11.8Gbit/s or so to do 120Hz QHD and so the worst dual link DVI cables out there can have issues.
Oh and I guess that 2560x1440 120Hz TN panel from ASUS could possibly have issues as well since even if it's a 6bit per channel panel it's still being sent an 8bit data stream.
THE GUY AT BEST BUY DIDNT EVEN KNOW WHAT A MINI DISPLAYPORT
Last time I went to Best Buy the guy there didn't know what a video card was, he had to call 2 other employees. The last one still didn't know what they are but he knew where they were.
I once asked where the display port cables were at a best buy and the guy pointed me to the HDMI cables about 5 times before shugging his shoulders and leaving. The second employee kept asking me "displayport to what?" Because apparently displayport is just a weird output that needs an adapter
They're useless. They can't even zone off the store correctly by me. It's like, normal retail SOP to take note of which customers have already been helped so you don't overwhelm them. At any of the 3 Best Buy's relatively close to me, you're lucky if every employee not on the store floor doesn't ambush you before you leave.
I'm like, not only am I a giant nerd, I'm an avid Slickdealer. I know what the hell I set foot in your store for. Fuck off.
I can understand them not being able to immediately recognize people who know what they're looking for, but it's like they're insistent that they know more than you. If you mention something they don't know about they act as if it doesn't exist and you made it up.

I've dealt with IBM's older CRT displays that worked at 25hz. Pass the asprin bro.
Edited: So this morning I fucking wake up to the smell of burning electronics and an Onyx sitting in standby because there was a power supply failure. Spend the first three hours pulling the machine apart to find the fault which was a blown tantalum capacitor shorting the -12v rail.

This was followed by another two hours fighting with Chryseus over a god damn regulator until we parted ways and I found a 5A fuse disguised as another capacitor. ffs

It will be a month before the new fuse comes in.

I used to experience that, but no more. Now I can't seem to get a single employee to help me. I went to get a chromebook for my mother, and I sat there for 15 minutes trying to wave someone down. Money in hand. This is at least the 3 in my area, and the one I got the Chromebook at is in Louisiana

these are fuses?
We were bored, took apart an old HDD and went over a chip with a 12v live straight from a transformer. One fuse blew up with a nice spark and a lil boom.
it's a fuse that looks like a fucking tantalum cap. I've never seen one until today.

may a cap or a fuse, just like a box like that, be on a HDD PCB and blow up with a flame?
It's a fuse.
Would anyone happen to know where to buy an angled 2.1mm center-positive plug?
Or if they even have a slighty more technical name of some kind?

Well, i'd say it looks like one i need.
But am i stupid for asking what the hell "cable polarity made for JangleBox, some Fulltone pedals, some Moogerfooger" Is supposed to mean?
