Just switched to EE, man 4G is nice. 12mbps down so far.
I checked my local EE to ask about 4G, I don't get it at home but I do get it everywhere else. But turns out the deals are shit and giffgaff are getting 4G for free later on anyway, and by then I'll have coverage through them anyway.
I was put off by the customer reviews of EE. Not that I think my phone needs a fast internet connection, I find GiffGaff's 3G ample.
Just switched to EE, man 4G is nice. 12mbps down so far.
tell me about the reception with 4G/LTE compared to 3G.
Well I think I just found further evidence that my router is shitty, moving it a short distance away from where it currently is and replacing the cable for the PC downstairs because it was too short as a result and the socket for my ethernet came right out with the cable attached and all. Think I dodged a bullet that I was just able to reinsert it but its surely only a matter of time now before it breaks. Getting replaced in a fortnight but I'm going to be screwed if it goes bad during that time.
The N550JV is a decent laptop, but you can do much better for the price when it comes to performance by getting a Clevo with an 850 / 860M ("Cosmos II" or similar on this page, and review for the Cosmos II on this page) or splurging the extra on a Lenovo Y50. If you're getting a 15.6" laptop, it's going to be a bit chunky so you might as well make the best of performance for your cash.
Is Clevo good for their build quality too? I wouldn't want a lappy that breaks within a week.
Is Clevo good for their build quality too? I wouldn't want a lappy that breaks within a week.
Then get a Lenovo Y50 or the like. Asus and Clevo make laptops that are better on paper than in actual use. However, at least Clevo has the sense to make their laptops really easy to repair and maintain with an access hatch that opens up with 3 screws instead of the keyboard, 19 screws, 5 ribbon cables, and a bunch of plastic pieces to dig through just to clean the fan or replace RAM. [editline]4th July 2014[/editline] Aside from some flimsiness in the screen I never had a single issue with my old Clevo and they really are the best performing laptops for the money, though.
clevo gaming laptops and laptops like those are designed for people who aren't really going to be travelling with their laptops all that much. if you're going to be keeping it on a desk most of the time, they'll be fine. if you're taking it to school/university with you everyday it won't be a good buy

EDIT: OH yeah I remember, not gonna get a laptop from Lenovo this time. It's time for a real change from them this year. I'm gonna go research PC Specialist and Samsung.
Just switched to EE, man 4G is nice. 12mbps down so far.
Is EE's LTE network really saturated? I get 12Mbps down on DC-HSPA.
Reception with GiffGaff is utter crap, they are capping 4G users to 2Gb and they are shitty about tethering. [editline]4th July 2014[/editline] Text messages are often delayed by 3 hours, the call quality is shit in my area and service outages are common. For £3 more a month I can actually listen to web radio to/from work instead of being stuck on GPRS.
Complain to O2 about their lines, not giffgaff.
happy birthday america!
Can't believe the land of freedom is 2014 years old already!
Can't believe the land of freedom is 2014 years old already!
What? Canada Day was three days ago.
What? Canada Day was three days ago.
Perfect opportunity for one of these [t]http://i.imgur.com/pWMeUTg.jpg[/t]
I listen to internet radio while driving up and down the A1 using my GiffGaff 3G V:v:V I Don't deny people are having problems, just I've not experienced them, yet. I've found o2s network to be stable in general. Out of all the networks I've been on I'd say Vodafone has been the worst for me. I'm never getting a contract again. Bollocks to that mess.
But around the middlesbrough/durham area O2 reception is abysmal.
I don't know if it's device related but really I can't say I've had an issue with reception here in Darlington. It is crap in 'bishop though, but that seems to be a radio black spot, lucky if you can pick up FM radio!
Oh absolutely, 3 fucked me over well and good when I was on contract with them, I'm on PAYG with EE so I can quit at any time, but they do have a 30 day rolling contract available which is a bit cheaper. [editline]4th July 2014[/editline] But around the middlesbrough/durham area O2 reception is abysmal.
Yep, I had an O2 phone on contract for 2 years, in the Sunderland area it's a fuckin nightmare.
Is there any single fucking laptop that's not so shit in build quality and not so shit when it comes to WiFi? I've seen a lot of them around recently and it's steering me away from at least upgrading from my current MSI. I'm looking hard for a decent performing, almost up to date and reasonably quiet machine. I did look at Lenovo first but my dad seems uneasy with it. An Asus N56JR is nowhere to be found, which is worrying. I'm already annoyed.
macbook
macbook
Well it's an option but would I want to put up with a glossy display and the lack of proper dedicated graphics and a lot of overheating? I hear stuff like this from students at my college who had one of them and they suffered enough problems. Sorry for sounding really fussy, but I don't think Macbooks will cut it.
rMBP doesn't overheat at all, and Iris graphics are pretty great (+ there is a dedicated GPU option)
rMBP doesn't overheat at all, and Iris graphics are pretty great (+ there is a dedicated GPU option)
Is there such an option? I don't really understand because the model in particular I'd like is the 13 rMBP.
the 13" doesn't have a dedicated GPU, it has the Iris 5100. which in most regards is a great solution
Only the 15 rMBP has a dedicated GPU. Sadly. I love mine tho.
I honestly wish it was for both, as other Macbooks I've seen that were released had an nvidia chip back then. I'm not paying £2k for such a thing... Christ, all the good ones go and the shit ones come in.
Dedicated GPUs in non-gaming laptops are on their way out anyway. Intel's rate of improvement for GPU compute performance is greater than Nvidia's and AMD's. With Iris Pro 5200 we're already approaching a point where having Nvidia's GT 750M doesn't have a lot of appeal outside of gaming performance.
My Lenovo u410 ticked most of my boxes (Nvidia Graphics, 14" Display, Build Quality, Battery Life, Performance) but I've never had a device with such a horrible wifi adapter. It stalls with big file transfers and relies on sub-degree precise lid rotation to get optimal signal strength, a known problem it seems.
So what should I actually go for? Macbooks are already out of the question. Lenovo isn't allowed, what happened to Samsung? They had a nice system in there 2 years ago but now it's gone.

The world of dedicated GPUs in laptops always beating out iGPUs is gone.

Enlighten me on this, though.
