A little concerning, I like nvidias CUDA and the PhysX feature. I'd end up with the former.
Enlighten me on this, though.
That's a bit cherry-picking, isn't it? They only lead like that on a few benchmarks.

Those are what the average results look like. I do agree that non-gaming discrete GPUs are on their way out, but you're not making a very sound argument for it.
Personally i'd get a dell latitude or HP elitebook.
They don't normally cut corners on business laptops.

we were talking about compute performance
I explicitly stated I wasn't talking about 3D performance because that matters most for gaming applications in which case they're both not very good and you should buy something with an 870M or something.

latitudes are solid options imo. great build quality, much less like their baseline laptops
Its like that on my Moto G, Moto E, HTC One, Jolla and Motorola StarTAC.
And Bishop Aucland is in the arse end of nowhere so that's not surprising.
Tell me about that Moto E
I was in my basement and didn't have anything to open a cider bottle with.
So I used a HDD cover for one and my phone for other.

I think my next laptop will actually be a dell latitude when my t61 goes again.

Don't know what you budget is or what you're looking for exactly, but take a look at the Asus UX32LN. It's 13" and has a dedicated GPU.

My budget is £1200. I've ran across a Gigabyte P34g v2 and PCPro likes it. So I'm gonna delve deeper into the details of the thing and hopefully its the machine I've been looking for.

From what I've heard Gigabyte helped Razer with making the new Razer Blade and the p34g V2 is basically their version of a gaming laptop based on it. There's two versions, one has a larger battery capacity and it's the only one worth buying.
I just walked into my room after being out, and the monitors went on by themselves. You know you've spent a lot of time on computer when it develops a sixth sense.

How would I be able to tell? I'm kinda eager to get the model.
Why the fuck does nobody make proper fucking laptop docks anymore?
How would I be able to tell? I'm kinda eager to get the model.
One model has a 63.64Wh battery and it doesn't have the 2.5" drive support. The one with the 47.73Wh is way worse for battery life and should be ignored.

Hella respect for Somersby.
How bad of a performance drop are we talking if I buy an Intel i7 processor with a U at the end of the model name? I remember reading here that that meant it was hyperthreaded to shit and didn't perform well but I could be mis-remembering.

The U sku are dual cores with hyperthreading. So you'd be getting an i3 with more cache.
[editline]4th July 2014[/editline]
the u series isn't much of a drop off in terms of performance, some of the U series can turbo past 2.5GHz when needed it ain't that bad
2 cores/4 threads is a fairly large drop...

More along the lines of an high end i5 but you know. Semantics. Mobile i5's are hyperthreaded dual-cores.
I currently using an i7 4500U on this machine and it isn't bad at all. More than enough for virtual machines and games. Its more of a power minded chip than a performance one, but for a dual core, its no slouch and will hit near 3 Ghz if need be.
At the same time though, I don't really care that much, because if I need that extra power, I'm using my desktop anyway.

Wow people still use legacg PS/2?
Wow people still use legacg PS/2?
I mean, there are still okay PS2 mice and I'm typing on a $10 PS/2 keyboard (on a $2000 triple monitor setup) and it's fine, so.
Wow people still use legacg PS/2?
A lot of keyboard enthusiasts love the port because of its NKRO. Granted USB can do the same thing, you just need special drivers. Also, business environments. We literally have 4 bins of PS/2 keyboards at work, and if an employee has a broken keyboard, I just give them a PS/2 one, since all the PCs have PS/2 ports anyway. We also have a lot of PS/2 optical mice as well, which is interesting.
PS/2 is still perfectly good as a keyboard port, short of lacking the plug n play ability.
I haven't really got that to work yet.
I've had the same bottle opener on my keyring for like 3 years now, I got a new Elysian one from a bar but I gave it to my brother instead...I think he lost it. :v:

I find it interesting that PS/2 is still around on motherboards and that laptop expansion today. All of my keyboard and mice use usb and all of the ones at my school (I work as student librarian/tech support) use Dell usb keyboards and mice. I don't think I've connected a PS/2 device in 5 years...
Oh and I remember some gaming keyboards use PS/2 because of the lower latency and maybe because PS/2 has better longitivity than usb... I may be wrong on the last bit.
If it's not PS/2, it's not a real keyboard in my opinion.
