Yeah.

It's silly to hear that schools hand out iPads to children to replace I.T. It's a bad way to teach children computing right?
most secondary schools with ipads here usually have them in study halls for researching and things like that. they're not very useful for much else at that level
im sure they have practical uses for primary school kids though
[editline]6th July 2014[/editline]
ipads are easier to manage for primary school kids too. they don't need their own room unlike a room of computers; but it's important to teach kids how to type
Using iPads in my school would not be a great idea, but then again, IT School is a bit more advanced than basic Office and [del]Internet browsing[/del] researching

I can understand how it appeals to my little cousins, both 6 and 8. They have a little Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 they play with. Give them a little laptop, the two love it just as much as the tablet.
They love it these days. My mother however uses it when she's on the sofa downstairs, looking up ideas for crafts for the club she volunteers at and playing Word Jewels time to time. I used to hog the iPad a lot though but now I don't!
Hey guys, I havent stopped in for a while, but my google-fu is letting me down. Does anybody here who uses win8.1 and dual monitors notice that when you move your cursor slowly from one screen to the other, it hangs up on the edge of the screen until you hit it with the cursor a little faster? Its really damn annoying and I was wondering if there was a fix.

Works beautifully. Thanks fishy.
Secondary school students and upward should be given ThinkPads and an obscure Linux distro to work on.
Then they might actually learn something about computers.
Almost, ThinkPad laptops with i5 processors and NVIDIA graphics along with 1680 X 1050 displays! That is not built horribly like my X230.
Yeah I wish schools would do something other than teach children to use Microsoft Office and browse the internet. It nearly killed my interest in IT as a result with only a technology website coming in to revive it.
My little brothers class have started learning scratch.
Real pro language there.
I remember when I would get bored in school I would screw around and make a custom version of our schools website by downloading the CSS file and HTML file for the main page and modifying them all. I almost got suspended for that...
Also, I just had a glass plate sitting on top of my subwoofer on my desk (yeah I know, horrible place for a subwoofer but there's no room on my floor) and it vibrated off and shattered on my desk. Kirko Bangz's "Drank in my cup" has nice bass.
So I just got back from a two week roadtrip to washington DC and it rekindled my love for fallout 3. Quite a few years ago, on my last computer, I had aquired it through some less-than-honorable methods and loved it so damn much, I swore to buy it one day and play it again. Then I forgot about that until I saw it on the steam sale and recognized quite a few locations from the game in real life DC. The jefferson memorial and DC metro mainly. The metro looks exactly the same minus the cave-ins and dead bodies. Now Im despising the difficulty of installing mods because I wanna play it with HD textures and awesome new energy weapons.

I'm considering getting the 1920x1080 screen for my laptop soon, so I can finally rid myself of the 1366x768 cancer. I was happy to find out that it was actually possible to upgrade by just switching the panel. 1920x1080 on a 13" laptop, hell yes. An SSD will be the next upgrade, and then my laptop will officially be pimped.
Beats tossing around with MS Office, at the very least they will learn to troubleshoot which apparently barely anybody can do.
Some people in my class were really fucking dumb.
I had questions like "Hey can you install Office 2013 for me?" or "How do I download Adobe photoshop?"
Mind you, this is a Sysadmin/Programmer Class. Holy shit

I'm always surprised by how little people tend to know about basic computer related things.

The school I went to - and my brother is going to soon - has apparently decided to replace most books with iPads and either apps or some kinda eBooks - I'm not really sure, nobody told me anything apart from "We're modern! We use iPads now!".
What I find weird about this is that they literally went and bought iPads for the entire school without really consulting anyone about whether they might be able to get a better price for something... more efficient, that they're the original iPad and none of the newer ones, and that they bought the things like two years ago but are only starting to use them now.
I kind of want to get this case to replace my Node.
Does anyone know of any short PSU cable sets that I can use with my CX500M?
I wouldn't call the non retina 13" MBP a good laptop when purchased today, especially when the retina model isn't a whole lot more expensive. The only reason Apple sells products like that, and the newest iMac with piss poor specs for a desktop is because educational institutions buy them and the margins must be massive. I think the only reason the iPad 2 is gone now is because they have the iPad Mini and they want to finally kill the 30pin dock connector. I cannot imagine how much money they made off of schools buying iPad 2s for $399.
Will confirm, our university has tons of 13" MBP's for students. I had one for a year and 1280 x 800 is horrible. I literally used my 8 year old laptop instead of it for the sake of a 1440 x 900 screen when working with VMs.
New Asus is a much better machine in almost every way, because its actually has a decent 1920 x 1080 screen. Now I can have a VM in a window without needing to scroll vertically!
I have like 3 seasons of 24 but other than that...

in retrospect considering the fact that my left and right eye have see colors slightly differently that was not a good idea

That's one of the reasons I didn't go to university and study something IT related. I knew I wouldn't be prepared for it because all I did for 7 years is office and I had no programming experience etc. Heck they didn't even teach us HTML. It would be nice if IT at school was more than office. Covering some programming and hardware would be brilliant.
