Whatever the case may be, when ripping CDs or whatever you shouldn't rip to MP3s imo.
oh well why didn't you open with that
See, I would, but my problem is if I use any other format, I lose the ability to plug it into some program or device or other. And I don't want to litter my hard drive with seven different copies of a file in six different formats.
Did you make those MP3s yourself by choice? If so, I'll focken rek u m8.
No I download all my 320 from what
It doesn't, but that doesn't mean I don't think mp3 is suitable for 90% of uses.
I don't use FLAC in the car or on my portable devices, but even minor artefacts become very audible when pumped through a high quality PA system at concert volumes. I'd sooner take a bunch of CDs.
I don't really get pissy over audio, some people take the quest for audio quality too far. It's a job for me.
I honestly can't tell the difference between FLAC and even most 192kbps MP3. The mastering is what does it for me.
Actually, doesn't GTA IV use windows media player to play the user tracks?
[editline]18th July 2014[/editline]
And I'm not saying MP3 is that bad, but when you have a choice, you should choose to not use it.
GTA4 outputs WMV files for the videos. 1080/720 only at 30fps.

Also I was searching google for my handle to see if anything new came up and saw this.
320 and FLAC sound exactly the same quit whining
I don't consider myself an audiophile, but after I got my DT770 Pro I decided to check if I could hear the difference between 320, FLAC/ALAC.
I could definitely hear a difference between the two. what I noticed the most was how much crisper lossless audio sounded compared to 320 which sounded kind of muddy and "blurry" so to say compared to lossless. personally though, I only notice the difference if I compare them. 320 and lossless doesn't sound different enough to me that I'd be able to tell if I was listening to lossless or 320, only in a situation where I know that one file is lossless and the other isn't.
if WiMP HiFi didn't literally cost twice the amount as regular WiMP (320) I'd listen to lossless instead, but I don't think it's really worth how much extra it costs when I wouldn't even be able to tell unless I actually compared the two
[editline]18th July 2014[/editline]
They didn't actually do it for audio quality. Their argument was so that people on dual cores could play without destroying CPU... which makes no fucking sense given how unoptimized the game is on the GPU side. Yes, because there's a massive userbase of people with R9 280's and Core2 Duos.
it was a really odd design decision. it's gonna be lighter on the CPU which would help out a minority at best, but by not compressing you run into an issue which will be present for the majority of players, and that is the HDD not being able to load the files fast enough. if some other program touches my HDD, Titanfall's audio is gonna stutter like crazy to the point where I'll only hear crackling. the only fix for this would be to put it on your SSD, but that's far from ideal considering how much those cost per GB and how limited you are in space on those.
game stutters like crazy too even if your FPS is stable at 60. I haven't googled it so not sure how widespread that is, but it's incredibly annoying and takes away a lot of the fun
Fairly sure we're talking about custom music, not stuff that's shipped with the game itself.
Also according to Rockstar support it supports "non DRM'ed MP3s, WMAs, or M4As".
I did not know that. Since I'm probably going to redo a lot of the library again (because of the aforementioned volume problems), I'll do it in M4A.
Whatever the case may be, when ripping CDs or whatever you shouldn't rip to MP3s imo.
Whenever I rip a CD or LP, I do it straight to FLAC (and then convert it if necessary.)
It's not necessarily for playback, but rather because I want to have an untouched library in the highest quality. If I want to edit later or convert (like I want to do for GTAIV's custom radio), I have all the music there in pristine quality to work off.
(Also, lossy to lossy transcodes are a sin. Never do it.)
Well my new Asus router came (Thanks Amiga!). Just waiting to have the modem installed by BT shortly and then my disconnection issue with a bit of luck should be history.

Yeah, this especially.
If you transcode from MP3 to MP3 then you're worse than hitler. Hitler would never transcode from lossy to lossy.

I have a couple tracks that I'm pretty sure started as MP3 CD rips, got transcoded to Ogg, then transcoded back to MP3. I just can't be assed to find the originals again.

I read the topic but decided to puush the google page since I thought it'd more funny.
And I'm now on a faster internet connection, setup went fine apart from an authorisation issue (Wasn't supposed to use PPPOE anymore, DHCP instead).
My car only supports mp3, so that's why I use it

How long does thermal paste last in the tube?
I have this thing of Arctic Silver that's been sitting on a shelf for over a year, and I'm building myself a computer very soon (FINALLY). Should I buy another tube, or is this one fine? Or should the CPU come with it's own thermal paste? (i5)
