would it allow people with wider displays get an advantage for having wider field of view?
technically but the advantage isn't really that apparent in CS:GO. you're only going to have your crosshair on one spot which should mean that you're only focusing on one spot if you play properly [editline]21st July 2014[/editline]
This is why I pretty much stopped buying 16:10 dispalys long ago. They only exist to fill in the niche demand while its extra pixels are always handled like this. So in the end, you're actually at a loss compared to 16:9 display
at a loss if all you do is play video games*
technically but the advantage isn't really that apparent in CS:GO. you're only going to have your crosshair on one spot which should mean that you're only focusing on one spot if you play properly
I guess you'll get more periferal vision and see more around you?
at a loss if all you do is play video games*
at a loss if you use any full screen programs* The only gain you can possibly have with them is when you're on your desktop and running apps that doesn't require full screen. Even watching full screen movies will leave you with vertical bars because they're all 16:9
i don't have most of my applications in fullscreen ever. 16:10 is much better than 16:9 if you tile windows atop eachother [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] and who cares about black bars unless they're huge? 16:9 content on 16:10 displays leaves small black bars. [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline]
I guess you'll get more periferal vision and see more around you?
if you hold bombsites on your own this might be useful i played at 2560x1080 for a while and figured it would be more beneficial to have a non-broken UI at 1080p and stretch it to 2560x1080 to make enemies a little bit bigger; much in the same way as professional teams stretch 4:3 to 16:9 except not as hideously low resolution
Who cares about black bars as long as the content is actually pixel matched?
black bars don't annoy me when they're small like that, but i can't stand anamorphic content on 16:9 displays. the black bars are huuuuge
Some people on CS:GO play with 4:3 on 16:9 monitors because it makes aiming easier. I hate those people. [editline]21st July 2014[/editline] Also, is YouTube really slow for anyone else right now?
it doesn't make aiming easier [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] they use that resolution because they've been using it since CS 1.5. changing resolution just fucks you up for a while
I change resolution all the time, ranging from 640x480 to 1024x768 depending on how laggy it is on the map.

[editline]21st July 2014[/editline] Also, is YouTube really slow for anyone else right now?
they use a low res, because atleast in cs1.6, the hitboxes are actually bigger. the target is that muchs maller that it is easier to hit these pixels.
Remember when 512MB SD cards were useful? [t]http://i.imgur.com/ZOfJrQN.jpg[/t] yeah...
they use a low res, because atleast in cs1.6, the hitboxes are actually bigger. the target is that muchs maller that it is easier to hit these pixels.
there's no practical advantage to it in CS:GO. many teams are moving to 1600x900 and up now

I spent like 4 hours trying to figure out my favorite 5 songs because that's all I could fit. It was a big decision.

Anyone know where I can get a Raspberry Pi Model B+ pack for cheap? (As in the Pi itself with an AC adapter, HDMI cable and Micro SD card)
I change resolution all the time, ranging from 640x480 to 1024x768 depending on how laggy it is on the map.
Christ [editline]21st July 2014[/editline] I don't know why it's a revelation to people that 16:10 monitors have less horizontal space than 16:9 monitors Mine are basically 1080p with about 150 pixels missing on each side and I don't think they're really that big a deal
Christ
Yeah man, having a geforce 210 is painful
Yeah man, having a geforce 210 is painful
it almost sounds like integrated graphics would do better i would often leave my ded. graphics card on my laptop off and wonder why some games were running a bit slow before I realized that it was the HD4600 doing the work
i crashed my phone the other day when i tried to record a 4k video to my old 2gb microsd card.

So after something like a month waiting for parts I replaced several capacitors and a fuse, reinstalled the boards into my Onyx and turned the key. Dramatic representation of the following moments.
There is a Netflix app on my TV, followed by YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Skype. Apparently this TV must have a mic or something. [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] I'm gonna see how it stacks up to using a Chromecast and the video quality, etc

Our LG smart TV has an excellent selection of streaming apps. The image quality is excellent, too. The text entry is via basic cell phone style number pad on the remote, but it's better than the dreaded arrow key number selection.
So far the quality is the same as off a Chromecast. Typing stuff is a pain in the ass but browsing around using the remote is relatively easy. I do like using the remote over a phone or tablet. I also like the tactile feedback of the physical remote and I know where the buttons are at. There's even a built in Netflix button on the remote.
Anyone know where I can get a Raspberry Pi Model B+ pack for cheap? (As in the Pi itself with an AC adapter, HDMI cable and Micro SD card)
I got my RPi model B from Element 14 for the usual 35 dollar pricetag and then just went to amazon and got a 5v 1A micro usb type-b wall charger. Really any typical SD card will do, I got a maxwall 16gb SDHC card and it works fine. I think you'll probably find that getting those + an HDMI cable is cheaper than buying a pre-picked kit.
I remember using Wii homebrew on a 4GB SD card back in late 2008 and it was painful. I think the 14 year old me would of loved to of seen the price crashes that have happened to SD cards in the last few years. Anyway, going back to the 16:9 talk I do quite like the fact that it seems to be a mid point with regards to black bars. Seems to be quite fair if your watching 4:3 or 2:39.1 content. Don't hate them by any stretch of the imagination I must stress though.
Should I try out a 2560x1080 monitor or should I just stick with 2 1080p monitors instead?
