I've used quite a few pastes in my days, seriously love the Arctic Silver Ceramique stuff, especially when it comes to having to remove the heatsink again later on.
I have a legitimate Windows 8.1 installation right now, when I upgrade my rig in a few nights I want to do a fresh install. What's the best way for me to get an .iso that's not some trash pre-activated crap? I can call microsoft and have my key confirmed once I install so I really don't want a cracked version

that would kill you if you turned your phone on at night.
I can see a CPU fan from one of the underside panels, do I need to take out the keyboard to access the CPU/heatsink/thermal paste? What thermal paste would you recommend and in what pattern would be best to apply it on a laptop? I've used Arctic Silver and Noctua paste on my desktop machines but don't have any at the moment.
My paste of choice is Arctic MX4. It's in the top for performance, and you actually get said performance because it has no curing time or procedure, which most people do not follow. Plus it's pretty cheap.

With all this contrast you could maybe see what going on the screen when it's sunny

I don't quite understand what you mean by "trash pre-activated crap" unless you mean a cracked version. But you can use this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only
You can even create a bootable USB directly from the exe. Make sure to download the Windows 8 one unless the key is 8.1 specific though.

MX-4 doesn't have the best bare-die performance, though (although it does work fine). Ceramique is generally better for delidded processors and processors without a lid in the first place.

Ah shit, I forgot that this was on a laptop. Yeah, go with ceramique. Or some coollaboratory if you're feeling adventurous

I wonder if you could have it so, at night, it goes into a black and grey night mode.

If you're already on a legitimate 8.1 install, did you try one of those key recovery things to grab your key from the depths of Windows
I always end up using one in my forgetfulness and they work fine (like KeyFinder)
microsoft is rolling out the free 1TB onedrive storage space upgrade to all office 365 owners right now
if you're a student thats $80 for 4 years of 1TB cloud storage
oh yeah and you get office stuff too
Did I just watch today's Jeopardy Teen Tournament contestants almost clear all of the other categories sans "Computer Stuff"? If it weren't for that chick that decided to randomly call one of the questions from it out, I would've labelled them all sipwickets.
Then they answer all the questions within like a second. Should be easy money for them.
I hope you've learnt your lesson, and will buy a Nexus phone next time you get a phone.
but muh camera
I figure I better post this here since for the first time in a few years I pulled a completely stupid move on my home network.
The first mistake was that I didnt identify my connection type from the ISP. I bought a ADSL2+ modem when I needed a VDSL one. Damn.
The second/third one was just a combination of me being frustrated and tired from work: When I battled trying to get reconnected on the old modem for 45 minutes... turns out I plugged the line cord into the motherfucking phone port. Then for the reminder of the two hour struggle I couldnt get my DCHP going. It would only give my one computer access and shut out the rest. I tried everything from powercycling to factory reset.
NOPE. I PLUGGED MY MODEM ETHERNET CABLE INTO ANOTHER ETHERNET PORT ON THE ROUTER INSTEAD OF THE WAN PORT.
I fucking hate networking. I'm pretty sure I need to bridge my modem, but I'm not about to fuck around with that.
On a side note, all this happened because CenturyLink wants to suck its own dick while giving me terrible connections. I pay for 15/5 and during peak times I get 1.3/500k along with the constant dropping of connection.
TLDR: Line plugged into the phone port instead of the line one, modem connected to Ethernet port instead of WAN
Since this is VDSL it's probably due to congestion that you're getting lower speeds which can in fact happen with DSL, we see it here in New Zealand as well sadly.
Second question why the fuck are CentryLink not giving you FS/FS? the max VDSL standard is 70/10 with out other additions to it to make it go faster. Unless their like every other cunt that you only pay for speed.
I assure you they are link every other cunt. There is fiber laid in my city, but it is only for business. Because fuck residential customers having good internet
Fuck explaining computers to old tech illiterate people

yes yes yes yes yes
ok what happens to my 1TB storage and all of the files after the 4 years?
$20 a year sounds great, also cheaper than Google Drive 1TB which is $10 a month.

Not really, Intel is adding DDR4 support in Broadwell CPUs, which are scheduled for release in 2015

Any source on this? I follow it quite closely and have seen absolutely nothing with that. Soonest DDR4 is slated for consumer systems is Skylake. A rumor about broadwell servers though, but that would be some trickery using the same chipset.

Yeah you're right. Skylake will be getting consumer DDR4 support. Haswell-E will be getting DDR4 support pretty soon though, and that's only a couple of months away.

Yeah but you're looking a grand easy for entry level board and proc for that.

And according to our distributers, DDR4 prices are going to be "high"

No one said it was going to be affordable, just that it was happening.
[editline]30th July 2014[/editline]
DDR4 really isn't that exciting anyway.
But twice the amount of the thing were held back by least! (In most situations)
[editline]30th July 2014[/editline]
Also just played gmod online for the first time since... gmod 10? Jesus fuck christ what's wrong with people. Sometimes I think I'm not meant for the Internet. It's not that I expect any sort of decency from humanity, but it does bring down the value of it in my eyes even further.

That's completely expected at launch. Maximum PC used DDR3 back in 2007 ish when they were just commercially available to build their dream machine of the year. A 4GB DDR3 1066 kit costed $300, and only the most enthusiastic of the enthusiasts had them in their PC. It took about two years before DDR3 overthrows DDR2 from launch.

And, now, that's the price of DDR2 at that speed. Or close enough.

Not at all. Used DDR2 sticks are now extremely cheap online. They were more expensive than DDR3 a while back, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
