Windows uses (used?) vendor specific chipset drivers starting with Windows 2000 and the NT kernel. Technically it means the OS is more optimized for the hardware but it means the OS shits the bed when you attempt to boot from another machine. Making the driver or the hardware more generic fixes this at the expense of optimization but who fucking cares, we got eight core CPU's and gigabytes of ram now. \:v:/
Win 8 (and I think 7?) fixed this. My current Win 8 setup on my 2600k is carried straight on from my Q6600. No reinstall. That's a new CPU, new mobo, even a new RAM variant. The first time you boot it, it'll do a little re-configure stage and it just works from there.

Anyone know where I can get some decent sized project boxes for prices that aren't fucking extortionate? I bought one but it's a little too small for what I need.

That feels like some DRM level shit.

That's partially why I stopped using my desktop and donated most of its hardware to the office.

I once got a windows 7 install to boot after swapping from an Phenom II to an i7. I don't know how, but it worked. [editline]8th August 2014[/editline] It had a password so I couldn't go any farther.

The netbook was a lot slower, but considering the specs, that's to be expected. (Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz, HD5770, 6GB RAM vs Atom N450 1.66GHz, Intel GMA 3150, 2GB RAM)

Wasn't my desktop [editline]8th August 2014[/editline] I didn't have an install disc either.
So tonight is sucking. Some how. Some How. I opened the film project tonight since I accidently rendered with some extra audio tracks turned off. Was going to render it out for the director to take another look at. He has some notes, and I say I can fix them now. I go through and find like 15 scenes. Are just... completely in random order. As in, sometimes in reverse order, sometimes wrong audio with the wrong video. It makes no fucking sense. So basically, I'm having to go through and re-edit these scenes. And since premiere overwrites clips when you overlap them, so some shots were just completely removed. I have to redo like... 13 maybe 15 scenes. Granted, the skeleton is left, but I have to retime two montages, and sync a bunch of audio AGAIN. Just when I thought I understood premiere pro and it wasn't a piece of shit. Somehow ripple deleting to sync up the audio ruined the project. Also, I can't find a way to turn off this behavior. All i find it "Default behavior is to delete the clip below it." But nothing about stopping it from happening. Also, I'd go back to an autosave, but the last one with a different date is from like 3 days ago before I made a bunch of fixes and finished the climax of the movie. It would be an equal amount of work. Edit: Yes I know I should have more often backups, but I already have like 25 levels of autosave. And this problem seemed to pop up randomly.

I've setup a new save system which should prevent this. I'll now make a new save the day I begin working in it. And I have autosaves to go back in 20minute chunks for 6 hours or so. I'm Through most of the fixing so far, and I can begin checking his notes.
I just set a macro on my G15 to do CTRL + S when pushed.
Oh hey, another Skype bot. Go away, I'm preparing for a 6 hour surgery.
I just set a macro on my G15 to do CTRL + S when pushed.
The problem isn't saving. The problem is actually saving too frequently. I couldn't go back far enough to fix it. It's not losing work, it's making a mistake, and saving and not realizing what happened until a few days later. But my hand sits on WASD for saving anyways. In anycase, eventually when I'm finished with his project I'll be sure to send it to you guys to watch. And I'll show you where I began editing :v:
You know, Microsoft seriously needs to start catching up with that crap, there's no reason why a Windows installation from one machine should just explode when you throw it on some other machine. Is there any good way to upload a video to youtube through SSH? Or just from a link to the video file? I want to upload a bunch of stuff to youtube, and dump it on my server so the 5 or so people that will watch it (tutorial info for doing something in a game) can access the higher quality version if they want, and I'd really rather not have to upload it all twice when I could just dump it to the VPS and then transfer it in a matter of minutes to youtube. Running centos if that matters.

This was obviously a huge problem which they fixed, but it might be an option now.
Found something that looks to be the ticket. I'll have to try it tomorrow. https://code.google.com/p/youtube-upload
Am I the only one to see the irony from saying GNU+Linux doesn't have nearly the problems windows has, then turning around and using PHP?
What has PHP to do with Linux? PHP by itself is not really that terrible. It's mostly because it's a language thats very easily available for new people and 120% of web host service support PHP. [editline]9th August 2014[/editline] PHP 5.7 Looks really damn promising. Might get me back to PHP when it's out. For now, I'll stay with Java and Golang
