One of my friends went through that surgery twice in a year. Around the second time, we were playing a lot of L4D2 - every 5 minutes he'd go "Hey guys, cover me, I'll have to change which side of my ass I'm sitting on". Laptop.
Portabiity makes a huge difference for me.
Depends on the task.
Generic web usage, a decent laptop is great. But lately, I've found that I spend tons of time on my Nexus 7.
Games? Fuck anything but a desktop.
Buy a bunch of cheap wallclocks and arrange them with the different timezones like the classic TV newsrooms would do.
I prefer desktop because its easier to know whether the components in it are good and if something breaks its easier to replace the part inside it.
