they're butchering the thinkpad line right? that really bums me out
I'm literally hitler It takes an audio file, compresses it to .mp3, then recompresses it again and again
Unfortunately there isn't any laptop brand that I really support anymore.
Unfortunately there isn't any laptop brand that I really support anymore.
And building your own laptop isn't like building a desktop.
I still have no idea which laptop line is good or shit
So I found a copy of Command and Conquer: The First Decade which has like 12 Command and Conquer games. What should I do with it? I don't know if the codes are used but if someone really likes command and conquer I'll give it to them I guess
And building your own laptop isn't like building a desktop.
Is it even possible to really build your own laptop? The most I've ever been able to do is upgrade cpu, hdd, add an ssd, and upgrade ram. I know in some cases you can also upgrade the gpu and motherboard as well, but it's normally only with other parts from the same manufacturer.
I'd kill for a 14" dell precision. [t]http://www.vatgia.com/pictures_fullsize/gij1363071390.jpg[/t] Ditch the awful numpad, center the trackpad and I'd be all over dat shit.
Ohhh god, whyyy did they not center the trackpad. I don't think I could last ten minutes with that thing without getting pissed off and putting duct tape over the whole lower front to hide such an obscenity.
I'm literally hitler It takes an audio file, compresses it to .mp3, then recompresses it again and again
Do that for a whole album, bloat the files somehow, encode them as FLAC and upload it somewhere on the internet for stupid audiophiles.
bloat the files somehow

encode them as FLAC
Already done :v:
I found this on the Best Buy catalog http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/dell-dell-inspiron-15-15-6-touchscreen-laptop-silver-intel-core-i7-4510u-1tb-hdd-8gb-ram-windows-8-1-i5547-9500slv/10298307.aspx?path=715a4ba8bd3c15cd18c242ceaa3662f0en02 then I saw the screen resolution: 15.6 inch LED backlit touch display with 1366X768 resolution gives you the option to view in Full HD for twice the amount of pixels and 35% brighter than HD damn it on a side note, the product features description is funny 2GB integrated graphics card lets you edit photos and videos with ease
Every time I see a decent spec laptop like that one, I am instantly disappointed with the screen resolution.. The keyboard also looks like it would be great for me (I like island keyboards, like the ones on MacBooks) Like I'm using an old 15.6 inch Acer right now with the same screen res and I can see the pixels but I feel like I shouldn't care about it that much. On another side note, it seems like I would be able to play a bunch of games at native resolution since it's so low. Then I remember playing CS:Source on the same Acer laptop and I'm like right, I can see all of the hard edges and blocky diagonals and shit. Or maybe it's just a shitty screen and the better ones on the same screen resolution isn't as noticeable.
Most people don't know what full hd even is. My mom bought me a TV that claimed to be full HD but was only 720p. She told me that it was better because the 720p display could fit a 1080p signal so the pixels must be able to show more than other tvs.

There was this * for fine print saying it was for stills only... :v:
1366 x 768 is so common, it's really awful. How hard would it actually be to get a 1920 x 1080 replacement panel off ebay and drop it in the laptop? From what i've seen, screens are off the shelf parts normally, same connector any everything.
I was impressed by the 1200p display on the Nexus 7 2013 and the 1080p display on the Nexus 5. Everything was nice and crisp so I guess I'll try to aim for a 1080p display on a 15.6 inch laptop.. Or better and get a retina MacBook Pro.
I'm a bit late, but I'm gonna throw my personal opinion in there aswell.
Nonsense, I've sometimes chimed in on conversations like three or four pages later.
I don't think Archlinux is gonna dissappear anytime soon, and there is no real replacement for it:
Which is the only reason I don't evangelize away from it as much as I feel like I really should.
* Debian Sid still has months old packages. * Debian Unstable has more recent software, but I have yet to get it to successfully boot, and is a huge pain to install.
Fair point on the pain in the ass to install bit - if memory serves I had to use Debian stable to install then update the sources.lst or whatever that file is to get to unstable. Also unless my sense of time is messed up again, Debian only recently decided on what init system to use instead of old ass SysV, so booting fresh installs might be rocky at the moment.
* Fedora Rawhide has the packages I want, but I can't get it to install (Installer Crashes, and using a stable -> rawhide migration goes nuclear upon boot)
I had that issue once ages ago when I tried to set up a pen drive install (which I think may be part of my reason for wanting to use good ol' optical media, hasn't failed me yet), but my primary issue with Red Hat's packages is it's been a pain in the ass to get something installed that isn't 100% GPL or similarly licensed (even mostly opensource things like Quake 3 were annoying). Since I don't quite have the boner for the GPL that the rest of the community does you can see why that frustrates me a little bit.
The Installation process of Archlinux is something special like Gentoo's, compared to other distros. I personally don't want to use Gentoo, because I don't really fancy compiling my packages every update. For me, the Archlinux installation is mostly painless, because I wrote all the special Steps I needed down, so I can just copy-paste them in a SSH session and I have a working system with X in 20 minutes.
I learned the install process quick enough - it's almost exactly like a stage3 Gentoo install. I didn't even have to configure the kernel (or at least the documentation didn't mention it, which I would think it would given Arch's generally stellar wiki), except for some reason the way the kernel configured itself usually caused panics on boot with no error message I could reasonably make out (I also had no framebuffer, blame nvidia proprietary drivers and me not knowing about uvesafb at the time). It did work once though so I do have a bare-metal install of Arch to refer to.
If there would be a more convenient Distro that supports all my use-cases, I would switch to it gladly. * Rolling Release * Binary Packages * Option to do a minimal install * Up-To-Date packages. * Clean way to install non-repo packages (PPA / AUR like) Fedora Rawhide would fit in nicely, but the fact that it's installer is bugged bejond repair (I don't know how they did manage to do this) is really off-putting. Every time I look for a distro that fits my needs, I always seem to go back to arch. This is mostly due to packages which are sometimes old as fuck. For me these are mainly programming related (Old, Python/Ruby/Go/Rust/NodeJS versions).
You might look into Sabayon - it's basically Gentoo but it ships with a package manager that keeps binary packages for a lot of programs, and unless you're into some niche shit it's probably got everything you want binary (I admit I haven't used it though so you might not have binary packages for ~amd64 where the newer packages are). You still have full access to emerge and layman just in case (though you might not ever need layman, the amount of shit in the Portage tree is insane). You won't break my heart if you decide you don't like it though.
On the update thing: An Archlinux update hasn't failed me a single time honestly. Even back in 2012 (I think) when the jump to Systemd was made. At that day, then I simply did an update, the Updater did not update or break anything, because of the Systemd thing, some manual changes were needed, which was really nice. IDK what experiences people have made with arch (Especially with update), but for me it has surprisingly held up nicely. I've been also running it on my work machine from 2011 to 2013. The same installation.
Honestly I'd just call it luck, good timing, or both.
I've actually wanted to upgrade my girlfriend's old HP screen, it was previously a Matte 1366x768 but I got a glossy 1366x768 just to replace it, there was prices and stock of 1600x900 and 1920x1080 ones but way out of my price range.
I was considering for a bit about replacing the shite 1024 x 600 screen in my netbook with a 1280 x 800 asus t300 screen. I couldn't see why it wouldn't work. Same connector, mount points, aspect ratio and size
If I ever get sick of Arch, I'll probably give Gentoo a try. So far though, don't see much point, unless I need packages updates an hour after update release, instead of 2-3 days. I just wonder how the package collection fares against Arch repos + AUR.
There are few things I hate more than Eggos. For a whole year I had to eat those things every goddamn morning. And no matter how long I tried to toast them they always ended soggy and with cold spots. It pretty much made it impossible to eat them and I just ended up throwing them away or up.
I find it difficult to not overtoast them. I love eggos
What even are eggos.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/DHqx6Hu.jpg[/t] Yessss. Now I just need a produo and it'll be (ha ha) time for homebrew.
Probably a little late, but what places would you suggest to dabble into using PSP homebrew? The sites I checked either look fishy (like "hurr ROMS/ISOS HERE") or are flat out broken when trying to click links.
What even are eggos.
Frozen waffles
[t]http://i.imgur.com/DHqx6Hu.jpg[/t] Yessss. Now I just need a produo and it'll be (ha ha) time for homebrew.
Try and find a microSD -> Pro Duo adapter if you can, they're much cheaper and work fine. As long as you make sure you have a legit microSD card, I ran one in my PSP for years until the screen died.

damnit steam
