just sayin, you kinda pay a lot for the privilege of being able to cover a wide range of use cases with the MacBook lineup. There are definitely cheaper ways of getting only a good display or getting only good battery life, but if you fork out twice the cash you can get something that is at least modestly acceptable in most cases with few failings.
the rMBP would probably be the fastest computer in the entire house with the best screen for my photo editing and video editing needs, best gpu for gaming, even if it is Iris Pro, has an SSD and has better battery life than any other laptop in the house. That and it doesn't have a god damn 768p display

There are definitely cheaper ways of getting only a good display.
not many. and repairing it yourself for the most part is pretty hard. but then again, you don't really need to that often with apple support. it's built to be super easy for them to replace parts
b-but muh ram/hdd upgradability!
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Air-Retina/Apple-MacBook-Pro-Retina-2012-Drive-Internal-Flash Would this not work? Anyways, can't upgrade an HDD if there isn't one to start with!
I honestly wish Laptops would have at least one thunderbolt port. They're perfect for eGPUs. Yes I have an addiction for eGPU possiblities
still waiting on those cheap eGPU chassis that aren't actually just expresscard [editline]13th August 2014[/editline] thunderbolt will be amazing when anyone other than apple and asus actually do something with it

[Also, there needs to be a word we can use that refers to both SSDs and HDDs]
I might've mentioned it before in the other thread but my MacBook doing this isn't normal right? Just a brief blip like this happens on every boot. [t]http://i.imgur.com/RRzMpen.jpg[/t]

However, those commercial thunderbolt pci-e chasis like the Sonnet Echo and Magma Expressbox can work with eGPU apparently. If you think paying $1K for one of those enclosure is worth it that is.

Probably not normal, but nothing to worry about since it's probably just an overlooked harmless software glitch.
Is it after the Apple logo appears, and Mac OS X is doing stuff? Probably not normal, but nothing to worry about since it's probably just an overlooked harmless software glitch.
It happens on every boot, after the logo. It only started yesterday. It had been reinstalled recently, too. As far as I've been told by someone else it's really not normal for it to do that so I'm gonna get it looked at soon. If it's a software glitch in the EFI, why are there no reported cases on the internet? I'm pretty sure other Macbook Pro users don't have this issue. It's just bizarre, all I've been doing is playing Minecraft over HDMI and video editing.
the rMBP would probably be the fastest computer in the entire house with the best screen for my photo editing and video editing needs, best gpu for gaming, even if it is Iris Pro, has an SSD and has better battery life than any other laptop in the house. That and it doesn't have a god damn 768p display
I'm not saying the mbp is a bad purchase, I'm saying that you can think about whether you would want all those features combined into one computer instead of getting different computers for specialized uses. For people who move around a lot and need a full set wherever they go, it's a no-brainer. But for the price of a MacBook, one can get a decent media editing desktop and a tank of a business laptop, and from the perspective of someone who tried both kinds of setups, I really prefer not doing media editing on a laptop and carrying anything that would leave me stiffed if it broke in -20C weather (or anything that is heavier than it needs to be)
only reason I'd ever consider a mbp would be because of the OS. I don't see the appeal of the rest when I know I can make my own desktop much cheaper and better I'm not much of a laptop guy to begin with though, but I still feel like I'd rather go for a cheaper laptop with some performance under the hood rather than shell out money for the equivalent of a high performance laptop while just getting a general use laptop
surface isn't really a laptop competitor. it's some weird inbetween where it's too heavy and big to often use it as a tablet but not sturdy enough with the kickstand to be used on your lap [editline]13th August 2014[/editline] you could get a macbook air for not much more (or less?) than a similar specced surface pro 3 and not get a CPU/GPU that throttles drastically
I just wish you could customize a laptop like you could a desktop. I'd want a laptop with: 13-14" matte screen No optical drive Large battery to take advantage of no optical drive Nonflex keyboard 1920x1080 Nice aluminum or magnesium chassis Option of ulv or full power mobile CPU Decent discrete GPU But apparently that's too much to ask for
how is it possible that the surface pro 2 costs more on amazon than in sweden? seems odd since everything is overpriced here

I had a 2005 steam account when I got HL2. Too bad I was a whiney brat who wanted to cheat.
after seeing these years of service things, I decided I'd try to log back into my first steam account which I lost due to downloading cheats aand no surprise, I wonder if I can somehow retrieve it. I haven't used it for years :v: [editline]13th August 2014[/editline] I don't have the email account associated with it anymore though, so sounds like tough luck. never made any online purchases on it, all was from the store and there's no way I'll be able to find my boxed copies after all these years
Four years user here. Oh wait.
I had a 2005 steam account when I got HL2. Too bad I was a whiney brat who wanted to cheat.
I remember when I used to cheat in CSS back in the day. Basically using cheat engine to force sv_cheats 1 on my client, and then being able to use r_drawothermodels 2 on VAC secured servers. It was amazing. I haven't had a single VAC ban. I loved how that actually worked.
The only FPS I've ever used hacks in is Combat Arms. A few friends and I had a bunch of hacks (because being a dick is the only real way to have fun in Combat Arms.) They were trying to be stealthy about it and got kicked, while I was moon jumping around everywhere like a complete idiot, which I didn't get kicked for. Good times.
I found, I found! [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/d9ZW4d.png[/t] what a nostalgic feeling. I think I bought AvP2 like three times since I loved it so much, not sure where my third copy went more importantly, cs1 anthology CD key! can't wait to get back into my very first steam account

AvP2 Gold is the first game I ever really got into multiplayer with, that game was incredible.
What's a goof Wifi Range Booster/extender for less than £20?
What's a goof Wifi Range Booster/extender for less than £20?
Honestly? None of them, they don't work very well. You can get better results with a better wifi adapter or router, if you don't have it yet try and get a dual band router as well as a 5G compatible adapter.
Double digit, scrøb
Using steam in Danish, how do you even live?

I get pretty poor signal/connection upstairs, would getting a wireless repeater work or should I get something like the TP-Link TL-WR702N which allows client mode which I can then use to connect my PS3/PS4/Wii etc to ethernet.
Hot damn, I can't believe how versatile GNU/Linux systems are. I just switched out a mobo and cpu but didn't reinstall the OS and the system didn't even give a shit on next boot, this is great. I wish I wasn't stuck with Windows on my main machine.
