Just bought my first SSD, let's see what it can do.
256GB crucial mx100 if anyone's curious.

I'm thinking getting an SSD to replace my old mechanical hard drive down the line so I will be interested in your experiences of using one.
Welcome to the club.

They're awesome. Nothing more need be said.
Once I bought my first SSD, I found using any computer without one very painful, and soon ended up getting one for my laptop too. I find them indispensable.
I've been SSD since 2012.
I put off getting one for ages because i was worried about lifespan.

As long as you defrag it weekly it should last a lifetime
Journalists are blatantly lying, and anyone who dares criticize them is being censored. Sites like Vice are deleting long threads of discussion by anyone who dares to criticize it. Legitimate arguments on sites like Reddit are being deleted for the same and users and mods are being shadowbanned because they deigned to question it, and the mods who are doing the banning are giving vague rationale. Places like Polygon, Kotaku, and Escapist have been presented with clear, verifiable evidence that journalists under their employ have broken both international and on-sight codes of ethics and for the most part lampshaded it with sweet nothings, and refuse to take action, and places like Kotaku and RPS are illustrating their hypocrisy when confronted with the fact that Zoe has admitted to rape by her own definition and they absolutely refuse to talk about it when the very same journalists have been quick to demonize men in the industry just because they were merely accused of rape.
I haven't been keeping up (I don't want to keep up) but it's a hilarious shitshow when you step back from it. Kotaku's handling it in one of the worst ways possible, what with their policy against having their writers support developer patreons and stuff, and it's really funny how the last bastion for sort-of-civilized, uncensored discussion of the subject is /v/.

the only reason i want a soda stream is to put things that are not supposed to be carbonated in it

Mmm carbonated Vodka.

Unless you're being sarcastic, no. You should never defragment an SSD, because it reduces the drive's lifespan.

Did you do the paintball tank mod for your sodastream

The MX100 is a good deal, I have a 256GB one in my thinkpad x201 and a 512GB one in my VM server. Both are fast and haven't given me a problem.

It's a long running joke here, welcome to Sipwicket.
I was considering getting a sodastream myself but don't know how practical it would be to spend $120 or so on a modded sodastream with a CO2 tank that costs $3-4 to refill over just buying regular soda

fucking laggy ass internet

Nah, mate. If you keep the megabytes in proper order, the SSD will have less work to do when accessing/writing files and, therefore, it won't wear out as fast.
Trust me, I'm a computer expert. :downs:
Seeing an LG 21:9 1080p monitor going for £179 and I'm really surprised to see how far something like that has fallen in terms of price. I saw them going for around £300/£400 mark a year or two ago.
I would never buy sodastream even if I drank soda purely due to the location of the factory.

they make more than one you know
they make more than one you know
Yeah I know but but they weren't what I would call decent. I would want one that at least gave a good picture quality.

I've always wanted to play around with a 21:9 monitor. The problem is that it's awesome for certain things and terrible for other things, so it's not the most practical thing to buy.
As far as I know, it's only really optimal for certain films (something close to 64:27 like old Cinemascope films or 2.39:1 films) and certain games (since a lot of games don't work properly at weird aspect ratios.)

Not really effective for films coming from someone who knows a bit about resolution either. 2.39:1 films on Blu-ray with the letterboxing removed are around the 1920x800 mark falling quite short of giving a satisfactory experience (At least for me, I don't like upscaling) on that screen. I imagine also that you could fall back to 16:9 in games if it didn't work properly.
RIP Anand Lol Shimpi, you will be missed
Oh god what
PC's been working fine for hours, open Youtube and switch over to FP
Suddenly you get that distinct repeating bzzzzzz that means "you're about to see some blue". But it eventually changed, instead it kept playing the music, but still skipping so it sounded like it was playing at 1/3 speed
After a moment of this, the system just gave up and shut down. Nothing in event viewer, or bluescreenview. I think something may be wrong

I forgot about the whole resolution thing, which is a huge problem.
Until 4K movies are a common thing, I guess they're only really optimal for (certain) games.
I want a 4K screen. Mainly for programming.
Might get one when I get a new Macbook.

? you get the same visual result from a 29" 21:9 monitor displaying that content as a 27" 1440p monitor
it's not like the non 21:9 1080p monitors are displaying at any higher than 1920x800 either. there's nothing wrong with upscaling if you do it right (to an extent)

it's really good for office and photo workflows from what i've used. two almost 5:4 windows beside eachother without bezel and stuff

Does anyone know how the NVIDIA GeForce GT735M performances? I'm not talking gaming, but applications like Unity, Photoshop. But also Programming, Image Processing and likely.
I'm considering getting the Acer S3 392G. But I'm half sceptic. I would just like to know if this is a decent Ultrabook.
I'm considering X99 for my next build in a couple years time, good idea?
