Wat. I usually get this when I'm on my VPN but I'm not this time? Pure Australian here.

Clearly google wants you to move to America.
Would a Windows Phone be worth getting?
Would a Windows Phone be worth getting?
It's something worth investigating. It's not for everyone but my suggestion would be just to impulse buy a Lumia 530 or 630 since cheap and see how you like it.

Personally I'm waiting for wp9 and to see if Intel's 64bit phone procs do better than their current ones

Huh? That would be an unwise thing to do since there's no Intel WP devices.

Darn. Forgot about that. My dreams are ruined. GG Arm.

Guess I'll be waiting a while then
I feel so torn about Windows Phone. I might upgrade my phone soon (since it's close to three years old) and I've been contemplating Windows Phone because some of the Nokia phones look really nice (like the 1020), but then I'd have to switch to a new OS, rebuy all the apps I use and go without some of the nice Android features that I like. :<

Stuff like this is why I like to say suck it up and grab a 530. Srsly. they're cheap. You'll probably be surprised with what you're not missing.
OK so orientation day at college: It was alright. I got there before stuff started, bus took shorter amount of time than expected, went into the room of 30 or so students, apparently I am one of 62 selected out of almost a thousand applicants (woo, I guess my application was pretty go), find out that 30% leave after first year (because it is not for them or other reasons) and 80% land a job/job offer before graduating. Better than any other college (apparently the next one is 60%) and they do exactly what the industry does, uses the same stuff, software, equipment and when the program is done in 2 years, graduates are ready for the TV industry and you'd have connections to future work by then. Sweet.
Also the campus library got new 27-inch iMacs with some pretty nice specs.

Brand new keyboards and mice too. Most of them were still being configured with the special image.
Well then, looks like I'd be spending some quality time with them before most people. It's gonna be just like a year ago at my high school when they got new iMacs for the Computer Art room. I was there every lunch period since then. They were technically the fastest computers in the entire school.
I wonder where the older Mac Pros went...
I also found out that I can sign out USB cables and what not from the Front Computer Desk and the staff there actually know about computers. I also wonder if I can sign out laptops if they have any since I (still) don't have one...
I also wonder how busy the library gets during peak times. It closes at like 11pm so I'd probably stay there until then every day ahah
Oh and for meeting actual people, I just met up with some students doing the same program at the free lunch. Met like 6 of them and we generally have the same courses/course times. There is only like 62 of us.
"but muh google play....!"
Naw every OS/phone has it's design flaws and pros you just gotta pick what's more suited towards your usage
Which is also why I might buy a 530, I haven't used an app on Google Play in over a year.
My only needs are LTE+Decent Camera+Decent Battery.
Pretty sure the 530 doesn't have 4G but a WP that has 4G/LTE would be nice.
Anything on the high end has LTE, so. Looks like the high-end WP device to go to is the HTC One M8 for WP right now, simply because of how goddamn cheap the thing is.
I would wait and see what they announce at IFA in Berlin. There is also new wp coming like lumia 730 830.
Also me for example i have used android for over 5 years since the HTC Tattoo came out until Gnex.
I don't miss any apps from android, i even switched from gmail to outlook.
I also bought this year the Lumia 930 and i am very happy with it, it has the only camera in the market period that has almost as good pictue quallity as an Lumia 1020 which has the best camera ever made for a phone.
question though can i still use my gmail account with any of the mail apps from the WP store? I can't exactly detach from my gmail account.
Nope. No gmail available on WP.

Of course you can, no idea why Levelog said that? But really the best mail client is the built in one. Absolutely fantastic client.

Was sarcasm. Poorly executed, I apologize.
I'm not going to upgrade my iPhone 4s because it feels just as buttery smooth now as it did when I got it shortly after it was released. I always here people complaining about how their Android phones are 'slow as shit now'. Are they like PC's where they slow down over time if you don't maintain them well? Or were they just terribly sluggish to begin with?

Depends on the device really.
A lot of older devices had shitty NAND that degraded overtime, compounded by the lack of any TRIM support pre-4.3.

Tablets are super useful for school.

So, new worker decided that after 1 day he has had enough.
His reasoning being that he Didn't get to program on day one, as a programmer, and had to spend the time learning the company and it's product instead.
He has so much to learn...
I work in a warehouse stacking boxes and I spent my first whole week in a meeting learning about the company and it's "culture"

Someone's never had a job...
I'm probably guaranteed a job at any time at the place I work at solely because there's damn near 8 million lines of code in our application. Understanding any significant portion of that is not easy. I'm still learning new shit every day, and I've been there for 3 years and 3 months. We have like 5 developers who have worked here on 3+ separate occasions.
I'm guaranteed my boss won't fire me for at least 6 months because I'm 1/3rd of his workforce. (I hope to god I'm not here much longer, pls help)
The iPhone 4s with an up to date OS that I have seen (And I have seen many), all seem irritatingly slow to the point where it's almost as bad as my HTC Wildfire S was.

It's my third week at this workplace and I already secured my place.
bascially set up and manage the entire new Server infrastructure by myself.
replacing me would be really bothersome.
How the hell? The 4s I have at work for debugging apps has been brought to a complete crawl by iOS7.
Well I just didn't update to iOS 7 because I knew that A: I loathe the visual design, and B: I figured that all the new effects and shit would probably slow it down.
Would a Windows Phone be worth getting?
My stance on them is that they don't do much, but what they CAN do they do well.
Windows Phone seems to be the kind of OS that keeps being fast for a long time since there's not a shitload of apps running in the background like you often see on android and iOS devices. In a way it's the most minimalist smartphone OS.

iOS is even more aggressive with suspending apps. But yeah, my HTC Radar (single core 1GHz Scorpion) still runs as smooth as it did on day 1, which is smoother than most android phones really. Granted, it's 7.8, so it's gimped in the functionality department. Good thing I don't use apps at all, basically.
My Nexus 5 is kinda overkill for what I use it for. I basically only use snapchat, instagram, facebook messenger, and uhh, the alarm.
