I think this is one of if not the oldest/largest active threads on FP The KTT in the GMF has about 1000 more pages but is 1 day younger
yeah but thats just shitpost central, barely above the oify
Remember when there was a page limit (25?) and we had a new thread like every week
Need to build a computer at school, building a new machine for my dad with that anniversary edition Intel CPU that came out. Also, might have sneaked in a closed-loop ready-built water cooling solution for myself. Oh, and some filters for fans, I'm getting sick and tired of dust and shit inside my machine.
let me know how that pentium does mutli threaded wise I'm keen to get one if possible.
It sticks pretty even when over clocked to 4.6-4.8 with an i3 on multi threaded applications. (That OC is obtainable on stock cooler with a decent chip) Also the Malay chips don't seem to clock as well.
I'm just thinking about the GPU. All he needs is YouTube and Google Maps. I threw in a low-profile, silent, GT210, for video hardware acceleration, because as far as I know, a 210 should easily be able to handle it. Edit: Also, the video card is 30€ because we get taxes written off (it's a school assignment yada yada, school orders them, we pay the school, school gets the taxes repaid from the government). And the tax on hardware is 24% here. I've been using 1.24x = something on WolframAlpha quite a lot.
Soooo... My friend is getting a new tablet and is getting rid of his Lenovo T430u. If I pay for shipping ($80 or so for 2 day shipping + insurance) would it be worth it? It works fine and is in good condition reportedly.
wouldn't the G210 perform even worse then the onboard gpu the pentium has?
It's closer than most chips. The Pentium has "Haswell Limited" onboard graphics. No gain, but probably decent to just offload the GPU tasks.
Opinions? I know the motherboard seems like extreme overkill, but I have a lame excuse for that.
Depends on what you're using it for. Unless you purposely want a low end PC, that build is terrible.
It's literally just for YouTube and Google Maps. I mean, he might play Solitaire once in a while, but I'd say Google Maps beats that when it comes to performance demands. Edit: The cooler is for my machine, it's just in the same order.
In that case you don't even need to buy a old GPU, the intel's build in one is probably better for it. why the overkill motherboard anyways? [editline]3rd September 2014[/editline] You can also save more money by buying DDR3 1066mhz instead
Back when I was in "Gender class", we literally learned how to suck dicks and eat pussy.
I have experience with the latter, but I'm always looking for improvement. See, that is a class I would like to take.

[editline]3rd September 2014[/editline] You can also save more money by buying DDR3 1066mhz instead
1066MHz isn't even available at the store, the RAM is pretty much the cheapest 4GB of DDR3 you can get. Motherboard is mostly because of poor available choice on the store right now, all the cheaper motherboards are mATX and have no PCI slots, and I know my dad's going to want at least a few of those, and it's not that much more experience than some other options, now that I checked. Also, BIOS is up-to-date, don't have to worry about updating that in order to get the CPU working. I had a thorough look through the store, it looks to be a fairly decent build.
Not that much more experience? Too much RPG?
Firefox 64 bit on my laptop reaches 2gb after an hour of just using Facepunch, Facebook and Reddit.
I opened water fox like 5 minutes ago. [t]http://puu.sh/bkLGg/a4e60e9ebc.png[/t]
Do you guys just torrent all your college books or do you pay for them?
I stopped buying books after my first year, most of my courses didn't use the books anyway or relied on slides.

Ohgod I am a retard. So I was trying to configure an IIS Server to not make the Exchange Server 2013 OWA accessible on the / root of out main domain. I've changed everything and it just wouldn't work. Then it hit me. I was editing the whole config on the wrong fucking IIS Server. FFFFUUUCk
Chrome reporting in Highest I've seen the GPU process go is 1.7gb
I should clarify though that I tend to leave chrome open for a week at a time so maybe my memory leak problems don't really count
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834317824 Originally $1800. Why..
Our old school bought them for the teachers, they're pretty sexy laptops I would've considered the older one that actually had F keys but that new touch bar is pretty atrocious
you're paying for it to be extremely lightweight and for the build quality what more do you want from it? you want macbook air build quality + windows you got it there son
Ah, okay. I'm not much into the laptop scene and missed some details. [editline]4th September 2014[/editline] http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1958325,00.asp Looks like I'm getting this monitor for free. It's got a bad DVI port, but using VGA isn't a big problem. Not a bad deal.
I changed the watercooler I was ordering, I checked some tests for the Antec one, the stock fans that come with it hit 70dB at max speed. Ended up paying like, 13€ more for a slightly better one.

If I win the lottery or something, I'm getting that kind of watercooler, with a service contract where they drive to you and change the tank for you. It'd be hard to get douchier than that. Also, the thing I switched to is an Enermax Liqtech 240X.
Douchy? We've been getting that filtered water delivered here for years now (not the dispenser though), makes tap water taste like lye after a while.
Where do people live that they have such shitty tap water. My tap water is crisper and cleaner tasting than if you run it through one of those active carbon pitchers. You can still taste the plastic in some of those.

I moved to a town that uses well water, but even then its fairly clean, you just have to run the the water for a second or two so you can avoid a odd taste, its fine otherwise.
