the moto 360 looks like shit now that the review embargo has been lifted.
low resolution screen
slow cpu makes it laggy
12 hour battery
metal bands cost $80 extra
3rd party apps that aren't designed to be put on a round screen look like shit
damnit i really wanted that watch
The Verge is pretty much just jerking off Motorola as well. Gave the watch 8.1 as overall score, and the battery life a "5". I mean, the original gear had longer battery life, and it got a 4 for its battery (and a 4 overall).
Not saying the Gear isn't shit, but The Verge is literally willing to ignore any flaws as long as the product's pretty and all. Afterwards, they put up an article called "Rounding up: the blood, sweat and tears behind Moto 360". I mean, come on.
Let's just say that I really don't like The Verge. The Moto 360 doesn't look bad, but it really feels like the flaws could've been fairly easily fixed? Why go with a TI OMAP? That's literally Galaxy Nexus-era hardware. And - I might be totally off here- why use an LCD when the default watch face is largely black? Seems like they could've saved some power by using an AMOLED display, even though it uses more power per nit than LCDs.
So something just occurred to me. Why aren't video driver sites set up to work at 800x600? You'd think that would be top priority.
[editline]5th September 2014[/editline]
Oh here's an even better one. AMD Catalyst installer doesn't even fit in 800x600. How do you fuck up so bad?
They seriously put an OMAP 3 in there? Christ my MotoACTV uses an older revision of it.
I typically see 12 hours of battery life out of that thing too.
[editline]5th September 2014[/editline]
An underclocked Snapdragon 200 would have been a much more sane choice.
[editline]5th September 2014[/editline]
I actually can't find any power bracket data on the Snapdragon 200, the lower clocked OMAP 3's run in the 0.6W range though.
Wow, it's worse than I thought. That's even older.

My phone still uses an OMAP 3, and has less RAM than this :(

Pathetic.
I modded skyrim every day for 3 weeks in december to get ready for nonstop playing over winter break. And then my family said "lol ur coming with us"
So is your 580 up to it or is it going to melt as it artifacts and fails to display 5k. :v:
I've rendered realtime 6k games before with downsampling. Obviously FPS sucks but for things like some older unreal games it worked fine.
Lync is similar to Skype in many ways but also has a lot of differences.
Skype is meant for the general public, whilst Lync is primarily a product for businesses and organizations.
Skype has many limitations when it comes to videocalls, Lync does not. It also has some neat stuff like whiteboards (you can draw stuff with other conference participants), polls and much more.
Oh that's cool, I guess my school uses it too but I kinda don't think anyone else really uses it. Although you can message any staff or student in the school system which is nice.
I haven't tried the Android app yet but I'd laugh if the client itself is much better than Skype.
(it probably is)
[editline]5th September 2014[/editline]
To be really honest, Skype isn't good for anything and as far as I've been made aware, my tutor said Lync can be used as long as I have a copy on my machine... I can actually participate a lesson when I'm sick.
Oh that's pretty cool.
Got a 3-hour ban in WoW for something I spammed yesterday in an event that had like, 300-350 players, and everyone was spamming shit in chat.
That's a strange amount of time to ban someone for. I can understand an hour, a day, or maybe even 12 hours.
But 3?
I remember people getting banned for 3-ish hours on Facepunch, too, though
The Android software we release is beyond a joke regardless of management parroting "we are world class"
Well, technically, regardless of the shit quality of the software that might be true. A lot of common, popular android software is shit (Everyone still remember how Facebook actually used to - if they don't anymore, that is - modify global Dalvik memory restriction parameters at runtime just to get their bloated app to load?)
So Google has been logging into my old hotmail account using POP3 several times every day (for the past... as far as I know I've had that set up since I first got my gmail) to grab new mail from an IP in California and an IP in Germany. Microsoft just emailed me last night to make sure it was me :v:
It was fucking 90° in the shop all day. I got into computers so I could work in an air conditioned room.

Here in Texas if your AC isn't running at top efficiency it's just broken.

Merge is broken for me.
The thing with me getting Office 365 is that the files from classes are on a special web thingy that makes you download the file instead of automagically importing it onto OneDrive. If there was some way to automagically make that happen, plus Android integration doesn't suck ass, I'll go get the subscription.
Also school gives 50GB OneDrive storage. I was half hoping for unlimited lol.
Got my T420, it's badass. Oh, to have a trackpoint and a keyboard that isn't garbage...

It makes me wonder if that's why my GNex had a substantial performance boost after I uninstalled Facebook. Either way, I no longer use the app even on my M8. The mobile web interface is good enough.
I'm amazed how hard it is to find replacement table clamps for desk lights and microphone stands. Ended up having to dig through the trash in Vancouver for a gaffer clamp.

Is it bad my initial instinct was "eh, go look in the trash"?
I realized today 1/4 of my job is damage control for my boss. I should get a new job.
I decided to set my games back to the way I used to play them on my old PC

Losing things is one of the worst feelings in the world. So long Sony Handycam, it was fun while it lasted ;_;7
I don't know how, but basically it must have fallen out of the parked car I was in while I stepped out. That, or it has rolled around in the car into a super hidden spot. My number is on the camera so I hope a good person finds it, but I'm not counting on it.

You LOST it?
Woops.
But hey, the camera was ~300usd, I got it 7 months ago, and got to record over 40 hours of video on it. So I got my money's worth, I'd say. In a way, I'm almost more pissed about losing the 64GB micro SD card there was in it, because it was pretty new (and expensive).
You LOST it?

I can't describe the confusion when I got back to the car and we started to drive and I realized I couldn't find the camera on the seat next to me anymore.
[editline]6th September 2014[/editline]
The funny thing is, earlier this week (Monday) I actually lost my wallet on my way to school, but an ex-classmate of mine (of ALL people) found it and contacted me on facebook. So that was extremely lucky.
I don't think I will have the same luck this time.
You know what I love? Having to watch Youtube through a proxy because the videos refuse to load.

But that shit doesn't follow the iOS UI guidelines either, does it?
Rooting my Nexus 5 today, just to fix the fucking horrible sound when recording video. It'll be a replacement for the camcorder until I get something else (or I find it again by some miracle).
I bet you find the same model in the trash or something somewhere.
I get you 100 doge.
Shit man some awesome intel stuff.

So one of my programming classes uses an Automated marking system for assessment. You email source code to it, the server adds its own main() function with some random test cases, then compiles, runs and gives you a mark based on the output
So there's a big assignment due Sunday night, and on Friday the system suddenly stopped replying. Turns out Google got kinda pissed at the number of emails being sent and shut it down. They moved to an Amazon based system instead to try and work around it
Today (Saturday) they sent us an email telling us to stop spamming attempts, because their daily limit is 10,000 emails, it's currently sending 1,000 messages per hour.
People aren't compiling shit locally and just send source that segfaults / has compilation errors

Nobody thought it was a good idea to only allow you to submit 2-3 times? People think its actually easier to compile it remotely for testing?
So many questions.

Last year they only allowed 3 submissions for the entire assignment. Although I think that's unreasonable because the AMS is known for breaking and randomly failing valid code
One time I sent it a function that can only return 1 or 0, it failed because with the message "Expected: 0, Got: 3"
Best part about having a ThinkPad... disabling the touchpad for everything except tapping and scrolling and using the TrackPoint. Seriously though this touchpad really sucks. Thank god for TrackPoints.
