Last I knew the higher TB reds had abysmal failure rates.
Yeah, was going more for their designed purpose. [editline]15th September 2014[/editline]
Purples IIRC are marketed as surveillance storage drives.
Yeah, they're essentially trying to revive the struggling red-type market. Gotta do something with those production lines.

Trying to bring it to be a direct competitor to the barracudas instead of a budget drive (which the green has taken). Also that table be trippin only listing 64mb of cache for greens.
I was thinking of getting a 2TB Blue but that doesn't exist... It's for copying my crap onto it and then unplugging it, never touching it again for a while. I could also go get a External Hard Drive instead (that is AC powered) for like $10 more. How about Seagate?

How about Seagate?
They don't want to completely eclipse their black line because the market share for performance consumer drives is shrinking. I personally recommend Seagate's barracuda line [editline]15th September 2014[/editline] Also I finally figured out why seagate doesn't have internal 2.5" drives as big as their 2.5" externals. Opened their biggest size up and it's a samsung drive.
I could probably go buy a better USB 3.0 external enclosure if I was to ever really need to plug it onto different computers, etc. There is only 1 hard drive in the computer I use at home anyways but the drive I'd be buying wouldn't be in the computer except for when I need to use it. The point of the drive I'm getting is copying old crap onto it and not touching it for a while so I kind of think the WD Green would fit my needs for $86.99 for 2TB. There isn't a 2TB Blue either. Or get a Seagate Desktop HDD 2TB 3.5" SATA3 64MB Cache OEM Hard Drive (ST2000DM001) for $99.99 if Seagate works fine too. Edit: oh lol 5 minutes later the Seagate Desktop HDD 2TB 3.5" SATA3 64MB Cache OEM Hard Drive (ST2000DM001) gets a $15 off instant rebate, now at $84.99.

im gonna buy a bunch of high capacity reds when they have lower prices and lower failure rates might be waiting a while

My workstation has a pair of 2TB WD Green as the main OS drive and storage drive because I can't stand noise at all. At the time SSDs weren't exactly cheap. They aren't that bad actually, it doesn't really feel any slower than any of my other rigs (Except my live one, as it DOES have an SSD). My NAS has Seagate ST31000528ASs. Currently on 28,800 Hours without a single problem. Aside from the fact they are LOUD. Got WD Purples in a CCTV system, which as of last night is throwing SMART errors after 3 months operation, that's to investigate today.
OH BOY OH MAN [t]https://i.imgur.com/snNGJsn.jpg[/t] My first thinkpad :3
Son of a bitch, my capture box won't accept signals from PS1 games played on my PS2. The menus and cutscenes work fine, but it appears that 480i is the cutoff resolution for the box to actually pick up a signal. I guess the actual 3D game bits coming out of the PS2 are in 240p or summat. Now I need to get a capture device that's actually worse in order to play Ace Combat 3 :c
dat ibook
What do you think is replacing it? :v: also 14" is so fucking cute [t]https://i.imgur.com/bLU4T8K.jpg[/t]
I love my 13". [editline]16th September 2014[/editline] also just has a talk with an MS Partner regarding MS Exchange Server autodiscovery problem. Asked him why autodiscover doesen't work, and told him that when I manually define the server as a proxy and use the Exchange Mailbox GUID, it worked. The MS Partner just looked at me funny and asked "Whats a Mailbox GUID and how did you get that". I wonder how easy it is to earn the name "Microsoft Partner".
My Hitachi Deskstar died this morning. RIP 2008-2014 You lived surprisingly long for a deskstar.
64meg once my expansion arrives, but 32 right now. [editline]16th September 2014[/editline] Temple OS?
I was gonna recommend that next. Non-ironically. I'm really interested in trying to use and learn temple-os for fun. [editline]16th September 2014[/editline] Oh wow, Rust finally got a 64bit version for Windows. now I might actually consider learning it for some applications.
Try finding something good that does schematic capture and PCB design, and is open source. If anyone here thinks going from Photoshop to GIMP is bad, that's more like going from Photoshop to Notepad.
I think GIMP isn't bad from a tech perspective, but as with most FLOSS Software, the UI is just goddamn terrible. Whenever I find myself in the terrible situation of having to use Gimp, because I have no Photoshop on the PC, I'd rather use Paint.net because on Gimp it takes me 10 times longer to get the same amount of work done because I have to search everything, and Deciphering the UI makes me feel like I'm defusing a bomb.
