I think GIMP isn't bad from a tech perspective, but as with most FLOSS Software, the UI is just goddamn terrible.
Whenever I find myself in the terrible situation of having to use Gimp, because I have no Photoshop on the PC, I'd rather use Paint.net because on Gimp it takes me 10 times longer to get the same amount of work done because I have to search everything, and Deciphering the UI makes me feel like I'm defusing a bomb.
I guess I learned how to use it, and it's never given me trouble. Now switching from Gimp to Photoshop feels like going from using Blender to 3dsmax.
Oh, and the phone isn't the only way I'm catching up on the times. I gave in and bought a current-gen console.
A Wii U.
Got the Windwaker Deluxe Edition. Got Hylian all over my Pad and an HD remake of one of the best Zelda games. Also Pikmin 3 and Mario Kart because fuck yeah. Updates downloading now but it looks pretty bitching. I just hope my monitor's upscaler doesn't add too much lag - 1080p->1440p shouldn't be too bad but it's potentially problematic.
The wii u is current gen mostly by technicality. :v:

Compared to a PC, every console is last-gen.
Ironically, I have my Wii U placed on top of my desktop. I was hoping it would be able to slide in under the handle, but it's a bit too tall for that. The disc slot is just above the handle though so it's still quite usable.
So today i got Microsoft Bizspark access and after being amazed of everything that is on there (anything down to Windows 3.1, including all the embedded shit) i found out it comes with $150 in azure credits per month, what the hell is azure and how do i use it
I swear to god something is wrong with me. Every flashdrive I own is unable to properly boot to dos programs on hirens. Today I got so fed up with it I had my coworker take a new flashdrive off the shelf, load it with hirens, and boot to seatools on a system. It worked. I tried right after on the same system and it failed. The fuck?

Looks like Microsoft's own cloud computing service for deploying webapps.
I can use any of my coworker's drives and it works fine, it's just like when the drive knows I own it, it stops working.

But the drive was just booted from in front of me about 30 seconds before I tried. And this is all of my 7 drives, 3 of which were brand new.
So whoever was saying my Nexus 5's battery life was crap must have really high standards - it lasted about 36 hours on a single charge, with some pretty heavy (by my standards) usage and no attempt to conserve battery.
It's a fucking running joke in the shop that I can't run hardware tests unless we haven't lost all our hirens cd's (which is very common) and they can all boot to everything else. Minixp and any other non dos program in hirens, linux distros, acronis
Want. RAID that's basically hot-swap upgrade-able... Anyone here used one of these things?

It's p tight for server virtualization. Back when CPU mining was a thing I ran multiple instances of Ubuntu for about a month(They had a free trial) and it was up the whole time. It did pretty well when I did it on Server 2008 as well. When you create the VM's they give you the option of running a few different OS's, like Server 2008 r2, Server 2012 r2 in a few different flavors and a few different Linux distros. I couldn't afford to actually pay for the service, but if I had Bizspark access I would find something to use it for.

Yes, I looked into them for a long time.
A problem is it's super duper proprietary, and the speed fucking sucks. Most reports show it being at most like 50MB/s. Worthless for many things. It's expensive, and takes forever.
So I started looking into something called FlexRAID. it's software raid which runs ontop of windows and is ridiculously flexible. It's not distributed parity, but the parity system can be made redundant and you can specify how rigorous the entire systems redundancy is by declaring how many disks can be lost. it distributes a copy of the data on different drives and the data is windows based, you can take the drives out and read the data like normal.
With drobo, if you take those drives out of that drobo, the data is completely worthless. Basically after my hundreds of hours of research, drobo is nice for web startups who want something that looks cool or the home office user who has an iMac, a Macbook, an iPad, and need something expensive that doesn't need to perform well and looks clean.
Also I made it like 90seconds into that video before I had to stop it. What a horrible presenter.

Yes, including custom images

Only issue I have with Azure is that it's pricer than most alternatives, but $150/month of credit will get you: Large VM (4 x 1.6GHz CPU, 7GB RAM).
Edit: Bandwidth is not included in that. I think ingress is free, and egress seems to be 6 cents/GB.

Wow that is expensive.
With 130$ I can rent an 8 Cores @ 4Ghz (AMD) + 32GB RAM + 2x2TB Raid 1 physical server
Also MS providing Linux Servers :v:
[editline]17th September 2014[/editline]
if you told me 8 years ago that MS would provide Servers/Instances running GNU/Linux ,I wouldn't believe you.
Paypal has a proposed upcoming policy change stating that they're increasing the maximum dispute time from 45 days to 180 days.
As primarily a seller on Paypal, this is the biggest fuck you I've ever gotten from them.

Yeah, if I wasn't getting Azure for free, I don't think I'd ever choose it above any other service.
Also, I have an incoming Thinkpad, can't wait!

More like everything you sell will pretty much be free for the buyer. 6 month is a extremely long time for the buyer to do something stupid and break the item and blame it on you.

Windows Server's IE defaults to maximum security mode, which is basically "Block fucking everything unless whitelisted"
