I'm starting to really like all the shit my work throws out. When we send a computer back at the end of the lease we have to pull any extra RAM or other parts that were installed by us, most of it gets thrown away. I got a 2x4GB Crucial DDR3 kit, works perfectly. I have 16GB RAM now and no idea what to do with it.
No longer have to work on Fridays for a while due a shortage of bricks :v: I might learn something new in my spare time. SQL or something, idk.
What's the coolest thing you guys got for free or a ridiculous low price? I got a Mac G3 tower for free. I'm still looking for a use.
A CR-48 from Google. It's not that cool anymore considering it takes 15 seconds to load a page nowadays. :(
Sweet. Tried changing the resolution on my TV I plugged into my computer, hit test and both monitor and TV went dark...waited a couple minutes and it never came back. Guess I gotta restart in low res mode. I thought it was supposed to automatically change back unless you accepted the change?
I've yet to seen a Chromebook pixel in person
And apparently my 120hz tv doesn't support 120hz according to Nvidia control panel. edit: In fact, at its ADVERTISED resolution and aspect ratio, it only supports 59hz A+ vizio
So 980 announced. Pretty good. Benchmarks don't sound too good though.
So 980 announced. Pretty good. Benchmarks don't sound too good though.
It's still 28nm, it can't improve that much over the 780 Ti. And it actually seems more like a 780 replacement to me. TSMC needs to step their game up.
Yes, "attempted", I know someone is home [editline]19th September 2014[/editline]
And apparently my 120hz tv doesn't support 120hz according to Nvidia control panel.
So 980 announced. Pretty good. Benchmarks don't sound too good though.
Benchmarks are alright, it's better than a 780 Ti on average-ish. Give or take a bit, but this is completely reference, once we get into OC it should stomp hard. but the big part about the 980 is it uses HALF THE GODDAMN POWER. It's insane. It's fucking awesome. [editline]19th September 2014[/editline]
Everything but performance seems pretty great though. yea it's 28nm, but from what I've been reading on anand, Nvidia used the maturity of it quite a bit. 165WTDP versus 250 for the 780Ti and still about 5-10% faster.
That's not how it works. Nvidia not using TSMC 20 is a very odd choice, my only guess it didn't get the yields they needed, because lets face it, the 980's not a cheap card, any higher and people would be expecting it to be a replacement for the Titan Black, not a normal 780. [editline]19th September 2014[/editline]
It's still 28nm, it can't improve that much over the 780 Ti. And it actually seems more like a 780 replacement to me. Which is fucking weird considering GM204 is only 5.2m (And GPU logic is often quite dense)
It's probably interpolated 120hz, aka: it adds fake motion blur to everything at the expense of massive input delay
Why does every single HD TV do this shit? It's absolutely disgusting to look at.

You might get a free upgrade if you play your cards right

It's a 400mm^2 die; dunno how big the chips you're talking about are. Anyways, the SPARC M7 is 10B transistors, but it also doesn't seem to be shipping yet. The Xilinx Ultrascale stuff is, but it's about 5B transistors, and I imagine FPGAs are even more dense than GPUs, not to mention much simpler to design since so much of it is just a repeated design. It might have simply been too soon to redesign Maxwell for 20nm. Hopefully that means a die shrink is coming up soon.
Send them a complaint letter and see what they can do about it. You might get a free upgrade if you play your cards right
Well, I didn't buy the TV. It was supposed to be recycled, but there's literally nothing wrong with it. :v: Also this TV was discontinued like 3 years ago.
A+ vizio
My 26" Vizio occasionally screeches at me when I turn it on (think mic feedback at full volume) so I've just left it on 24/7 for the past 6 months or so I can still see where the cartoon network logo is faintly burnt into it

But M7's already sampling not to mention the simple fact that if TSMC couldn't do it, Oracle wouldn't use it. But the real thing that seems to be stopping Nvidia is 20nm is really, really not cheap. Not to mention GPU and FPGA density isn't all that unlike. GPU's work by HEAVY DLP and TLP, so lots and lots and lots of cores, SRAM and connection logic. They're really just often the same repeating patterns split into their respective groups (Eg, Nvidia's GPC's) [editline]19th September 2014[/editline] Ah... Steam... keep on being terrible.
Archeage aka Queue Simulator 2014 [editline]18th September 2014[/editline] anyone have a deck of cards
So 980 announced. Pretty good. Benchmarks don't sound too good though.
Nvidia mainly focused on power consumption this time instead of performance. You still get a ~15% boost from a 780TI, but it could be a lot better.
Does Asus's 2011 OC socket feel like a gimmick to anyone else? Apparently Asus is suing other manufacturers for copying them. :v: http://hardware-360.com/asus-to-sue-competitors-over-lga-2011-oc-socket/

Those pins are there on the CPU, but not on the stock socket. Intel made them with a purpose, apparently Asus reverse engineered them and is using them but I'm not sure I believe that. It's really weird, overall.

Intel left the pins extra pins on there for a reason.
From what I've read the OC socket is based on a socket Intel uses for testing. :v:
So tonight I went to a friends house to chill and we started to play Black Ops 2. Apparently it cannot do math, the programmers either fucked up or got lazy with the number of bots in the game. Since there were three of us, we decided to split each other into 3 teams and have some bots in the game. Black Ops kept on making 1 team have 4 people in total while the 2 other teams had 3 people in total. This gave an advantage or disadvantage (if they and/or the bots sucked) to the team with 1 more player. We kept on trying different number combos and shit but for whatever reason Black Ops 2 cannot do math. It kept on making 1 team have one more bot. Also I can be spraying at you with a LMG at point blank range while you run at me with your knife and I will still get knifed. No wonder Call of Duty is such a shitty game :v:
2-3 humans FFA with 15 bots or however many is the max is by far the best
The three of us used teamwork and strategically camped a spot on the yacht map because we kept on spawning at the beginning near the end of the yacht in the bedroom where two stairs lead to it. We put a bunch of claymores at the stairs and tried to hold the location and kill everyone else since the bots were only on the opposing team. We destroyed the hardened mode bots but got our asses whopped by the veteran bots. They pretty much aim bot and kill you the second you see them. We were like 28:50. Apparently I'm good with the explosive crossbow and suck and knifing. Today was a good day.
Some more stories from new Co-Worker... he had to edit the hosts file because DNS changes are not applied instant and we had to test shit. He complained that he doesen't have permissions to edit hosts file. I told him to copy it to the desktop, edit it and overwrite it. He said he knows it better and I shouldn't teach him.... ... 20 minutes later, he still didn't manage to write the changes to the hosts file.... Also he told me that jailbreaking makes iPhones faster.
