Getting an x series i7 and just a 212 EVO should be punishable by death. (Just my opinion)
I really like the Sony Vaio laptop keyboards, did Sony essentially stop making them recently?
I'm still kinda impressed how much I like the thin-as-fuck keyboard on my Vaio Pro when I use a mechanical on my desktop. It's not as awesome as a latitude or thinkpad keyboard, but still comfortable considering the limitations.
Wait on the GPU. Either A) prices drop as people are dumping their 7xx cards, or nvidia will introduce a 960.
Yeah, these are going to be our dedicated render nodes which we won't get for a couple months. Only one of them will actually have a decent GPU for occasional hardware rendering, the rest are going to have 620's or thereabouts. I might forgo the GPU when we order them for exactly your reason.

Why? It's not going to be overclocked and it's going to be in a case with excellent airflow in a room with excellent airflow.

This is why. I know it would make zero sense in your situation to overclock them, but it still just feels wrong.

Also picked up one of those fancy ODD to 2.5" hotswap bays for the t420 so I can move the mechanical there once I get an SSD for it.
I have a 212 evo and I don't over clock my i7. Still idles at 40c :v:
you know it's bad when you're excited for an external dvd drive so you can install games and not have to deal with going over your ISP's data cap
Just bought the UX32LN Zenbook, i7 4510U, 8GB, 128GB SSD.

I have the UX32LN and for me, whenever I tap on the touchpad, the hull starts to vibrate a bit and does a vrrrrr sound.
It feels weird.

That's why I switched ISP's. I now pay the same amount for less speed and worse service... but yay, no data caps.

not an option here, sadly
both comcast and at&t have caps, and lately comcast has been fucking with the numbers and claim my family uses at least 30gb a day.
I'm hopefully moving to the northwest at the end next spring, but if all goes well I may leave sooner
PNW best region

gonna be going to seattle most likely
So you'll be like 20 min from Trafficman
I don't understand how you guys still have data caps over there.

$$$$$$$$$$$
Comcast has data caps here but they don't enforce them
I don't understand how you guys still have data caps over there.
Data caps are a more recent thing, not a "still have" thing.
[editline]23rd September 2014[/editline]
Started soon after most mobile carriers dropped unlimited data in my area.
I still have my unlimited plan on my phone after at&t dropped their unlimited plans
so now I do 99% of my stream and youtube viewing from my phone
:(

So are you telling me you guys are actually going backwards?
No, seriously. We had data caps a few years ago, but they are almost nonexistant now. The only place where you still find caps is in the mobile area, but only on very cheap plans.
[editline]23rd September 2014[/editline]
Which does not make sense in a country where they "invented" the internet. They could spend more time getting it's infrastructure right and making sure they stay data cap free.
Data caps are silly anyway.
Didn't american ISP's get a shitload of cash to improve the infrastructure? yeah...
I don't actually remember hearing this but if that's true then why the fuck are they going backwards like dumbasses.
because they desperately need the $10 to $15 in overage charges for every extra 50gb you use
Exactly is what New Zealand is doing.
Fitting FTTH(fiber to the home) and going unlimited on 30/10, 50/20 100/20 and 100/50 consumer grade with 0 data caps and no SHITTY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT.

I have a 100/10 unlimited contract, for 90 bucks a month, and normally we pay much more than you guys.

http://www.newnetworks.com/ShortSCANDALSummary.htm
Aparently American ISP's sacked in 200 billion dollars (200,000,000,000$) to improve infrastructure, but where did the money go?
Cell phone carriers in Canada will never roll out unlimited data without some sort of limitation or throttling. Wind mobile and moblicity (which is going bankrupt) has unlimited data on their data plans but it's throttled after a certain amount of usage. The big companies are just milking on data caps and they don't care. In fact, in recent news reports by statistics Canada, it states that Canada cell phone and landline bills have increased over 7 percent in August alone. That's a 300 percent increase past inflation. I kind of know one part of the reasoning that the sudden increase happened in August. Rogers had this 6GB for $30 a month add on and this past month, if you were not on a contract, there was a $5 increase. There were probably similar price increases for other things which is total bullshit.
The base smartphone plan for 500MB of data is $80 with a subsidized phone. Bring your own phone options vary from $10 to $20 off depending on carrier.
And the LTE network can handle heavier use, the carriers just don't want to bother with it. It's proven with my data usage for the past several months.

Yeah. Both mobile and home connections used to be unlimited pretty much all over the place. Now almost no mobile contracts are unlimited and home connections are rapidly dwindling. It's really bad and backwards as fuck. Part of the problem though is the sheer number of people online now and the US's aging copper backbone via tier 2 and 3 providers not being improved. It's easier to improve this in smaller countries, but very expensive across the US, and money doesn't always go where it's supposed to in these situations.

Just planned out 5 ninite installers for when the laptop gets here... now which one to choose?
If it's in pictures or anything, that's why. Remember, unless you're actually in the folder directly (eg C:\Users\Nick\Pictures) you're looking at a library, which can and is multiple folders, so you can have multiple files under the same name.
I don't use the Libraries feature, it was direct access to the directory the files were in (E:\Documents\img\Replies).

Why does a fucking watch need a quad-core processor
So since we have to wait for Fiber to be installed this is my internet for now.

Tethering on 3G because they are upgrading the line or something that comes into our house. Planned downtime, thought that it won't bother me, but because I stayed at home sick from school, I had to help my friends with a powerpoint presentation on my Google Drive.
(SORRY FOR THE SPEEDTEST)

and i am happy with this speed.
Only problem I have is the unstable ping.
6€ a month for 3GB of data. Okay for me.
Speaking of cell phone towers, Rogers and Bell updated their coverage maps. My area and everywhere else I go has the usual up to 150Mbps speeds, Rogers still has more up to 150Mbps coverage than Bell. Bell has expanded their up to 150Mbps LTE network directly north of downtown Toronto. Also previously the map only featured up to 75Mbps and up to 150Mbps. Now it features a third speed, up to 110Mbps. Essentially the up to 75Mbps coverage areas from previously got upgraded to the up to 110Mbps speeds which is nice. I don't use it but it's nice to see networks expand.
I still get the usual 40 down, 20 up at my place. That's deemed what you'd usually get anywhere on the network. Still making good use of the unlimited LTE. For reference, it costed $10-15 a month. No limit what so ever.
Also a while back I started to run an open portable hot spot whenever I was on the bus. I now have a daily commute on the bus to school so I might as well do something useful on the bus. I don't know if it's being used or not but I don't announce it on the bus so if people see it and use it, good on them. I guess most people probably don't see it because they are either too busy listening to music, have their WiFi radio off or think it's stationary and not on the bus.
