Anybody going to Gamescom 2014?
Maybe
Man, Ingress players are some of the nicest people I've talked to in a video game in a long time.
I think it has something to do with the fact that I only read the messages that are sent to players in a 20km radius, that's punching-distance, you can't punch someone on the other side of the planet, but you can camp them through the game until you figure out who they are in real life and then punch them, really badly.
haven't tried out ingress since launch, and holy shit there are actually stuff to do here now
Just fixed an old computer used by a local council, booted up a Linux livecd and had a poke around the drive, turns out they left a load of peoples personal details and application forms in the temp folder.
Seriously do these idiots have any idea how security works :v:

Rule #1: If you are a person who has confidental files on your computer/laptop, then you need to encrypt your Harddisk.

Indeed the drive should have been encrypted.
I've wiped it off anyway but it's kind of worrying how easily I got access to that stuff.

Happened to me with an old D430. I looked through them all, but it needed a clean install of 7 Pro. I'm only wanting to change the HDD to something more robust. I'm guessing the HDD in it is ticking once per 30 minute intervals.

This is also one place where my ideology clashes with the company's policy.
None of the employees laptops are encrypted. These laptops sometimes contain copies of the internal repositories of the programs we sell commercially.
Imagine if an Employee of adobe has the source code of Adobe photoshop CS6 on his laptop, laying on an unencrypted HDD, and the laptop got stolen.
This isn't the only thing wrong at work. We also have an FTP for employees to transfer large files to customers.
The bad thing? Our whole array of websites is hosted on this FTP. Every employee has access to it, and every Customer aswell. READ AND WRITE. People could just delete everything, and all of our websites would be down.

Most organizations just remove the HDD when they resell/give-away a computer. Which is, you know, what they are supposed to do.

What the honest fuck. School IT administrators are more competent, and that's saying a lot.

I reported these issues to the upper ones in the chain of command. If something happens, It's not my job to give a fuck.
I'll probably be gone from there in bout half a year anyway.

"Lets trust the user, that he follows the rules, and does nothing wrong"
Basically security has the least priority around here.
Hey, what's a program that can work like iTunes but for DVDs? It's time to rip our 600+ DVD collection to the media computer(the one with dual 9800GX2's). The computer already has PowerDVD 8. What I want to do is when I put a disk in I want it to automatically rip it to my library then eject. Can PowerDVD do that?
