I have my screen on 10% brightness and its still too bright sometimes.
Use Flux or something to change the colour temperature so it isn't too harsh on your eyes?
Flux fucked with my eyes when it came to games, still having issues even though time has passed.
Flux is shit. I don't want my screen to turn orange at certain times of the day.
I use Flux, and did tone down the orange quite a bit, and now it's perfect.
f.lux is the best, i'm dead sensitive to colour temperature now and i try adjust it when i'm in blacked out lecture theaters or when it gets late. set it to the 1 hour transition and like 4200K and see if you notice it coming in. when it's disabled you really see the difference and it hurts my eyes.
I have a desk lamp that I put behind my monitor. The bias lighting helps with eyestrain tremendously.
Flux does a good job at making my eyes less strained at night, I always kept it at the 20 second transition though so I might try it at the hour long one tonight.
For me, color accuracy is too important to sacrifice. So I wind up disabling it temporarily, and temporarily turns into permanently because I'm always doing stuff that deals with color accuracy.
Christ, the U920T works so hard to keep cool. Dunno if Toshiba's heard of passive cooling, it's ridiculously loud.
Use Flux or something to change the colour temperature so it isn't too harsh on your eyes?
Flux is a racist piece of shit program :C Doesn't work where I live. [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] It's funny because nothing on the website mentions that it won't work beyond, what was it, 60 degrees north? I just had to find that out the hard way when the program refused to function without giving me any errors.

Flux fucks up the Color correctness of the screen. Unless you use it because the screen is basically your Sun in your room . Get some Gunnar Glasses :v:
Fuck you science, I want apartment-wide wireless charging already. It's rather annoying to have to tether yourself down for an hour if you later on want to leave the house and have your batteries at full. [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] Also, I spotted this while walking today. Not sure what to think of it... [t]http://i.imgur.com/owSDKXg.jpg[/t] Who the hell would want to hang a word cloud full of bullshit, on their wall?
Then set your location to 59 degrees north?
But then it'll be wrong, because I live more than 68 degrees north. What's the point of the program if it changes the colours when it shouldn't?
But then it'll be wrong, because I live more than 68 degrees north. What's the point of the program if it changes the colours when it shouldn't?
What's the point of the program when it's dark all the time anyway, though :v:
What's the point of the program when it's dark all the time anyway, though :v:
I feel like it could be extra useful for me now during the polar night. [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] Or "the dark times" as we call it. I prefer that name. :v:
I use f.lux even at daytime, that transition hurts my eyes :v: AND i use it on my U2711 with SRGB :v:
I don't know how the hell you put up with f.lux. Every time I've tried to start using it I've gotten headaches from it within the first few minutes of using it. It feels like it's actively hurting my eyes more than when I don't use it.
you know theres a way to make it transition reeeeeal slow so you dont even notice it right
doesn't that kill my cpu though? when it's transitioning my mouse starts lagging and videos too
Dude, what are your specs? I've used f.lux on an og C2D, and I never really noticed any perf problems at all [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] 1. Set it up to your location 2. Adjust maximum orangeness level a bit lower so you won't notice that much of a difference at first 3. Set transition to slow (very important) 4. Don't do any of that at night, start during daylight so you can have time to get used to it 5. Give it a couple days My settings: [t]http://puu.sh/5kiKN.jpg[/t]
I know where you live. [editline]Fuck O' Clock[/editline] In the trees.
I used f.lux for a few days, but I would notice the irritating orangeness of the picture no matter how long I tried to get used to it. I suppose it's just not for me. I haven't really had any issues with monitors burning out my eyes during nighttime anyway, I just keep on a light in the room and it's all good.
Flux is great, but it's different on all monitors. I will never go back to not having it though.
I installed it this morning to give it another try, and it still makes my eyes burn.
I installed it this morning to give it another try, and it still makes my eyes burn.
Keep messing with the increments, plus use the slower transition to make it less noticeable.
Dude, what are your specs? I've used f.lux on an og C2D, and I never really noticed any perf problems at all
Intel i5 2500k @ 3.3GHz Nvidia GTX 480 16GB 1600MHz ram :v:
FYI, the proper setup for flux should be such that white on the screen looks the same as a white sheet of paper under the room lighting when it's all the way on
Just bought a Surface Pro 2, kind of undecided whether I want to keep it or my new Macbook Retina 13". The Macbook is better built and sexier, but I didn't think a touchscreen would be this cool.

The touch abilities, size, and form factor are pretty cool though. Kind of a bummer it has 8gb less of ram and isn't as powerful in every other way... and I am kind of missing Osx

Instead of (or in addition to) drive encryption, write a script that changes every folder and file name to a 32 character string of random numbers and letters, as well as decompiles every program and piece of windows to change every reference to folder and file names to their new 32 character name. Imagine just setting something like that up on a honeypot, just to spite and bewilder anyone who spent the time to hack into it. I feel like an IT serial killer just thinking about the looks on their faces trying to find out which folders are which based on size, which is also different because every file reference is 3-10 times longer.
