Just bought a Surface Pro 2, kind of undecided whether I want to keep it or my new Macbook Retina 13". Oh jeez
Too bad Bittorrent sucks shit and is filled with malware
As I got hardware rendering to work, I decided to try a few linux steam games that didnt take too much space The only thing that ran properly was VVVVVV SteamBox will be an absolutely great next-gen experience, HL1 had at least 300ms of input lag, 30-40 FPS and awful stuttering, didnt bother trying HL2, super meat boy had noticable microstutter, uplink screwed up my multimonitor configuration badly, even after closing it
your bad luck with linux just never ends does it i have literally none of those problems
Oh god my hardware just started making a "whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop" sound :c
my first mental image was your computer literally shouting whoop whoop whoop
Additionally in the overbearing sound/heat department, R9 290X X2 announced. Ironically codenamed, Vesuvius. http://thepcenthusiast.com/amd-radeon-r9-290x-x2-vesuvius-dual-gpu/ Also I think the time has finally come. We've gotten so cryptic in hardware naming its time to stop. Seriously? R9290XX2?
You guys ever dealt with SSHDs (Solid State Hybrid Drives; like a HDD but with a SSD component attached) before? I'm looking at one right now, and they seem pretty awesome but because there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of them around I was wondering if you guys had heard anything.
Pfffthahahahaha fuck you Windows. Never gonna happen.
the gimmick wears off. that rmbp is a much better device for any actual work
Drawing with this thing is so much fun though. I wish there was a way to get functionality like this on my mbp without spending half the price of the laptop.
Weird, that Whoreblivion thread I did two years ago just shot back up to second-most-popular thread on FP. Referrers page says Something Awful linked to it.
Everybody in my Computer Forensics class is flipping tits because the security server for logging into FTK (really expensive forensic toolkit) at the school's VM lab went down and a big assignment is due tomorrow night. Since tomorrow is Sunday, I have no clue if anyone will be around to fix it. She better extend the deadline or else I'm going to fucking lose it.
How do I stop win8 from taking over my computer saying "Your computer WILL restart in 15 minutes to install updates. I don't care if you save or not, it's restarting in 15 minutes, shithead."

They are faster than regular HDD's, but they aren't ridiculously better, since only things that are cached are going to see a boost. If this is meant for a desktop, you might as well use the tried and true strategy of an SSD as your OS/Program drive and keep the traditional HDD for everything else. On a laptop with only one HDD bay....maybe. But that's a big maybe.
I haven't updated Win 8 since day 1.
I haven't updated W7 since 2011
I haven't updated W7 since 2011
I have a desktop running a version of OpenBSD from 2004. Can anyone top that (without going into genuinely old hardware with no current updates)?
Turn off automatic updates? Same as how it's always been?
But I want it to automatically update it. I just want to be able to postpone it like I could in 7.

The Macbook is better built and sexier, but I didn't think a touchscreen would be this cool.
Holy shit I was in an IDENTICAL situation as you. Deciding between the Surface Pro 2, or getting my first Mac, a 13 inch rMBP with the 256gb hdd (which was a very big deal, since I'm usually pretty anti-mac). Long story short, I'm ordering the MBP sometime this week [editline]17th November 2013[/editline] I was originally looking at the Yoga 2 Pro, which was $100 cheaper and thinner with a touchscreen, but didn't have any ports for a WQHD monitor. I was heartbroken.
I really like the Wacom Pen on the Surface, but that is all it kind of has going for it. My souped up 2.6/16/512 mbp destroys it in speed and battery life. Guess I'm just going to pick up a separate Wacom pad. Also 1800 for the 512 surface is a bit much considering the mbp offers 16gb of ram and the overall better specs for 80$ more. [editline]17th November 2013[/editline] and I didin't get the Yoga in-store today because it just felt so cheap and flimsy.

Good job Linus:
We just got the 290x in at work, Going to pick it up today
Good job Linus:
He's kinda right, though. Saving a bit more will net you something much, much better. He should have focused a bit more on the couch-gaming HTPC maybe, but still.
Oh god, it did it again [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/M8CRUF.jpg[/t]
I'm at the point where i'm picking my A Levels and I hope to go on and do CompSci at Uni once i've done my A Levels - most uni courses say that Further Maths is preferred. Problem is, I didn't do accelerated Maths and i'm only targeted for a B (when you need an A for Further Maths). How hard is Further Maths compared to Normal Maths?
Which uni's are you looking at? All the ones I look at want an A in standard Maths, no further maths. Sure you're not looking at Computer Science & Maths courses?
How exactly am i going to convince my old Gunman Chronicle game, which i JUST installed, that i do in fact have 16 gigs to spare?
I just upgraded from wireless to cat6 due to a unused 25 - 50m ethernet cable :D
