What the ram itself computes the data stored on it?
Yes. And not like a little CPU on the same die as the RAM. The actual DRAM cells.
I guess I've never used an ambidextrous mouse so I guess mouse shape is personal preference, as I found the G500/700 the overall comfiest mice I've tried. What kind of grip do you actually use with one of those / what makes the G300 good?
I'm a lefty so ambi is pretty important, but all around it's a very nice mouse. I don't have to do a weird claw-grip to be able to hit buttons on the side or have to let go with my thumb to feel around and find which key to press, the four main function keys can be hit by your main 2 fingers on top of the mouse and that makes for quick action. For general browsing I keep a fairly standard layout, with page up/down, homekey, and back on hand [t]http://i.imgur.com/RDYi2oC.png[/t] for MMOs and the like I bind the keys (including middle) to my main set of skills, and use my right hand (which rests at IJKL for movement) to hit the 7 key and right for extra skills [t]http://i.imgur.com/3rlZsbF.png[/t] for Battlefield 4 I've been using this config, considering mapping the mode switch key to a function by itself, or actually utilizing the two other available layouts so I can swap to a more comfortable aircraft/vehicle setup without having to bind multiple functions to the same keys [t]http://i.imgur.com/yYI9LLT.png[/t] I really gotta utilize multi layouts more often but I tend to be efficient enough with the available keys to map despite being a lighter mouse, I don't mind it because you maintain a good grip on it and it's hard to lose place of your function keys. My old one is dying out after a year of constant use, plugging in/out of computers as I moved around from home/office/friend's houses/etc, and it only seems to be an issue with the USB connector maintaining proper contact. A good cleaning seems to be a temp fix but come on it's like $30 and I love it way more than any other mouse I've owned
Yes. And not like a little CPU on the same die as the RAM. The actual DRAM cells.
Eh, might be good for GPGPU-type stuff, but I can't see that being particularly cost-effective for desktop users. Now, one thing that does interest me is switching back to SRAM. See, I have this theory. We're currently nearing the limits of transistor shrinkage - once we get to 5nm or so, we can't really go further with CMOS, and even single-atom transistors only gets us down to the 1nm range. And while we haven't hit those limits yet, you can tell that we're not keeping strict pace with Moore's Law. However, while transistor size may not shrink as quickly, I think transistor *cost* will. You can see that with the latest GPUs - they're still on 28nm, but the prices have gone down tremendously. I theorize that as transistor shrinkage slows, we will see more refinements on existing processes, bringing the per-transistor cost to levels it would have been at had Moore's Law held strictly true. Now, this will still have downsides. Voltages will stop dropping, so power consumption will start to level off, as will clock speeds. So getting further performance improvements becomes more difficult. GPUs will be fine - just make more cores. CPUs will be a bit harder - you can throw more cache in there, but at some point adding more cores stops being beneficial (to most users), and you can't easily improve single-core performance significantly. More registers, perhaps? Which brings me to SRAM. Right now, the reason for DRAM's dominance is that SRAM is just too expensive - DRAM needs just a single transistor, while SRAM needs six, to store a single bit. The question becomes "how do you improve performance of RAM by throwing transistors at the problem?". More capacity won't really help - 4GB is enough for most users, and 8-16GB is plenty. What desktop user needs hundreds of gigabytes of RAM? But vastly lower latency would help. And it lets you use up the cheap, bountiful transistors. So yeah, calling it now. By 2020 or so I think you'll start seeing, at the very least, very large SRAM caches - over a gigabyte - if not straight-up pure SRAM systems. Unless we see some other revolution. RSFQ anybody? All it needs is a room-temperature superconductor!

Imagine running game of life on your RAM. Yeeaaaah, beat that) And you're missing one major aspect with your transistor theory. leakage. SRAM is almost always going to be the biggest single killer of power when it comes to CPU power usage, usually up to something like 50% of the static power is due to SRAM. Leakage is unavoidable. I'd love to see SRAM dedicated desktops but... we're not seeing it soon. But for the forseeable future, transistor size won't matter that much once we hit like 5NM and shit. Stacked dies. It IS the future, for the time being. [editline]20th November 2013[/editline] I also just want to add I have access to a system with around 3GB of SRAM. It's not a small system.

I try to boot into Windows, and I find it's caught in a "applying updates NO WAIT REVERTING THEM, now applying them" loop. I figure "fine whatever, i'm due for a reinstall anyway", and now my Windows disc is telling me it can't install to that partition. I can already tell this is going to be an interesting morning.

i play with a trackball mouse, im div 1 in bf4
i play with a trackball mouse, im div 1 in bf4
I met a guy once who used a trackball for bf3 I asked him if he was insane, but once he explained it it actually sounds like an advantage.
Damn bitcoins again, Is the price just going to keep increasing until its like $10,000/฿?

Why the hell does internet explorer not support .ogg files. Goddamnit.
Why the hell does internet explorer not support .ogg files. Goddamnit.
because ogg sucks mp3 has superior quality on the filesize
because ogg sucks mp3 has superior quality on the filesize
but license. I want to use a free audio codec, thats supported on most major browsers. Currently I have all Audio files as .ogg's, and if .ogg's don't work, I use .m4a (AAC) as a fallback.
because ogg sucks mp3 has superior quality on the filesize
Really? Then OGG must really suck. AAC 4 lyfe
Really? Then OGG must really suck. AAC 4 lyfe
I really like the AAC codec, but I also dig vorbis. Gonna go with .ogg as primary cause open source and freedumbs.
Second Senate hearing about buttcoins in 15 minutes http://www.c-spanvideo.org/event/227604 I went through some of the testimonies that were submitted, there's one woman who's going to be talking about how the identity of the consumer needs to be revealed to the issuer of the currency. She didn't even bother putting "Bitcoin" into Google and reading through the Wikipedia article.

I think I'm getting an lg g2 later this week. my samsung intensity 2 finally shit the bed (couldn't quite make it to 3 years, poor soul,) and the g2 is really the only smartphone on verizon right now that meets most of my criteria. ✔ I'd like to keep it under $200 (G2 is $150 on contract) ✔ I need at least 32gb, my music library is 13gb (G2 is 32gb) ✔ It needs to not be slow as fuck (G2 is fast as fuck) ✔ It needs to be greater than 720p (G2 is IPS 1080p) ✖ I'd like it to be under 5 inches (G2 is 5.2 ) can anyone think of any other options?
I really like the AAC codec, but I also dig vorbis. Gonna go with .ogg as primary cause open source and freedumbs.
FLAC is my free codec of choice.

This is my 3,333rd post. My laptop keyboard is fucked again, already sent it to be repaired once for the same problem. Brad is an author. Go team.
The size is less of an issue than you think.
Yeah, it probably won't be a huge issue to me in actual use but I think they're kind of hideous and funny looking. My photo teacher has one (he uses it to check color calibrations lol) and holding it today it felt fine.
reinstalling windows sucks
Should have installed windows 8.1 with less updates.
that'd be easy to do if i had money for windows 8

That's what I did.
