ctrl + shift + escape also works
IIRC Ctrl+Alt+Del is a CPU interrupt whereas Ctrl+Shift+Esc simply calls taskmgr, so the old way is sometimes more reliable
Analogue TV shut off for Sydney today. Tueday 3.12.2013. I think we're one of the last in the world.
So many old people will freak out.

I'd love to see amateur pirate analogue stations pop up, since the frequencies might as well be used for something cool. Shame it's illegal.
Windows 8 seems to handle drive spin down better.
Both my externals spin down properly so my room is basically completely silent now. It's crazy quiet. And yes my actual rig is almost dead quiet. Thanks to bunch of money from tuning fans.

It's not CPU, but it is a kernel-level non-maskable interrupt. As long as Windows itself is running, it will work (although if the display driver is sufficiently fucked, you might not be able to see it working). C-S-Esc may or may not work the same way, and because it opens a window instead of fullscreen, it may not appear right if you're in a fullscreen app that's locked up.
I briefly did work for a company that went around and shredded hard drives with a machine exactly like the one in the video. It was kind of cool.
Ours was a little too big to fit in a vehicle. That's the hopper that feeds the shredder itself.

Fun fact:
Fireballs shoot out of the top if someone accidentally leaves a battery in a battery backup.
Should I get a R9 290 in my new rig so I can get a lot of money through litecoin mining, or should I get a 770 because i'm a NVIDIA fanboy?
The R9 290 is the best bang for the buck its much faster than a 770 also its almost as fast as a 780 ti.
Wait for the non reference coolers though, unless you want to put a custom cooler on it.
I guess windows 8 activated itself on its own. If I were to try doing a clean install it would be bothered if I tried to activate again right?
BF4 is crashing fast now and some stuff is just glitchy. Feel like doing a normal full install.

Alt+Ctrl+Del doesnt have any interrupt, theres nothing actually special about that combination hardware wise
Also NMIs are only used for the watchdog timer and fatal hardware failures

I was not using the technical definition of the term. I was using "non-maskable" to mean that applications cannot intercept or ignore it, the way they can for Alt+F4 and so on.
Bought a new sound card with bitcoins today =D

If you want $$$, then the R9.
I think someone is trying to argue on Google+ that it's impossible to change a value in a database.
The person is so confused, and his posts are so confusing, that I'm getting confused on what the hell he's trying to say.
We found a bug in our application today. Apparently there are actually people out there with the last name "Null".
That trips up a hack we put in place to code around some bad architecture (both people who designed that are no longer with the company), which tries to set it to NULL. And it's going to be a pain to fix that hack.

I was going to call bullshit, but then I realized that XKCD is really old, it has a lot of readers, and some of them are capable of sexual reproduction.
Is there an easy way to stream video from a webserver. Currently I download the file over https and open the part file in VLC, using the link and putting it in VLC's network stream works too, but it stutters a helavalot more, when it doesn't when I use the part file.
Apparently I found a extremely bad bug in our ticketing and customer database software (its based on ASP.NET I believe). I was just messing around since it was a slow day. In the quantity box in one of the orders, I typed something like 123485343 into it. Apparently that led to the server grinding to a spectacular halt, taking nearly a minute to generate one page, and then crashed entirely a few minutes later.
Fortunately we have a secondary server anyway, since the server tends to crash anyhow (real quality software :v:). But I didn't really expect a large integer to complete demolish a server. Hopefully customers on the public facing side of the site can't do that.

Either you need to update your browser to a more recent version, or there's a problem with MIME types on your server.
When I open up video files from my server, they play in browser without any stuttering problems.
Go here, click on a video, if it starts playing in your browser it's a problem with your server, if it starts downloading it's a problem with your browser.

How does the illegality stop pirates from doing it, though

It's not even that, I think - Wikipedia lists three famous people with the last name Null, and one with the last name Nüll (which Americans would probably type as Null).
But yeah, first time we've seen this, and we have like half a million users already IIRC.
I'm pretty sure I just got Magicka and all the DLC one of the last couple HIB.
i'd get the hib more often but they dropped the whole encouraging multiplat support :(
only two OSX/linux games there, and i already have one of them

Yeah, those links work perfectly. The VLC web player comes up, but it won't play the files.

I should note that the password protection might mess with it, I'm not sure.
rules say that speccy's aren't allowed, but am I allowed to post it if I need to post my computer specs along with my question?

Yeah. As long as it ain't everyone posting their specs.
Alright even though I just installed windows 8 I'm bout to reformat and install fresh.
Bye for now.
yeah okay
I've been having some trouble playing games in general. I played battlefield 3 on high settings at around 40-50 fps on my old 6850. now I've upgraded (got for free) my GPU with two 6870's instead which performs worse for some odd reason. battlefield is suffering from stuttering, often incredible lag, even at the lowest settings. contagion lags to hell and back unless I go into my graphics options and set anti-aliasing to either the highest or lowest. for some reason that gets rid of all the lag. AvP 2010 is unplayable as well due to horrible lag and stutters, varies from map to map. I'm also plagued by micro stutters (which is to be expected from a crossfire setup I suppose) a lot. these micro stutters are so bad that some games are unplayable, and two of those are battlefield 4 and avp 2010.
specs here

crossfire is enabled, speccy must be showing the wrong thing idk.
does this even fit in this thread or is this something for the technical support section?

Speccy should be showing what the game will "see", it's normally correct for this matter.

is there something else I can use just to see if that shows the same? and how would I turn on crossfire if it's already set to be on in catalyst but apparently isn't on?
