I'll stick with Windows 7 as long as I can, I don't like the metro ui
It's hard for me not to blame windows 8 for my lost data which completely spoils the newness of the OS. if I had all my old data back from a working backup then I'd likely not be as harsh but even the smallish annoyances make me just hate windows 8.
Seriously why do I have to go fullscreen to look for an application, it makes no fucking sense. I don't care how pretty it is. It's stupid. I have a video playing and I go to find a program and it completely blocks the entire screen. Who fucking thought that was a good idea
It never really bugged me since I'm not looking at the video anyway, I'm looking for the search results. And I've been using Windows 8 for so long I don't even notice anymore.
But for what its worth, in Windows 8.1 Win+S brings up the search in the smaller settings sized pane without the Start screen.

But what if I don't know what i'm looking for and just wanted to browse the start menu. I can't do that.
THere are times where I'm looking for a settings or config program and I know it's in the start menu but don't know the name to search it, that's where it kind of breaks down

You do realize that if you click the down arrow on the lower left of the metro menu, it brings you to an "all apps" screen with everything you'd find in the normal start menu, but with name / date / most used sorting?
Okay aussies I need your ISP advice.
We're currently with Bigpond which is 100$/mo (used to be 150$ dunno when it went down) for Home Phone/ADSL2+ (200gb limit), and we want to change.
iiNet seems okay (especially with the internet unthrottler oh man i want that) but the deal breaker is that we have to pay an extra 20$ if we want unlimited standard national calls.
What is good, FP australia?
I really want iiNet for the unthrottler (oh man oh man) but fucking no unlimited calls are standard. p.s TPG isn't avaliable in our area.

iiNets support are fucking great though, especially after dealing with telstra support (the worst ever)

Don't you have a 2560x1440 screen? Pin all your stuff to the start screen and create some groups. It makes it infinitely more useful. I mean, even applications you use once a year can be pinned. Just put them on the far right, scroll over there if you ever need them. The whole forte of the new start screen is that it can hold and incredibly amount of apps without getting too cluttered.

Yes, and it's horribly laid out. It makes my eyes twitch.

Change the brightness?
Do you guys think Intel will make their CPUs much more expensive soon since AMD is no longer making them?
Do you guys think Intel will make their CPUs much more expensive soon since AMD is no longer making them?
Well, they're still doing APU's. So I guess this would put more competition on the Intel graphics department.
Well, they're still doing APU's. So I guess this would put more competition on the Intel graphics department.
Intel graphics department, heh Intel GPUs already do most of the things people need of them, I don't see why they'd need to improve them.
I just use Start8 anyways

Did AMD actually make a statement on that?
Today I overheard a conversation in a computer store, the staff member was talking about backups to a customer
It was along the lines of "Raid 1 is good for backups"

Why do you think I said I wish we had Microcenters in Australia the other day, we only have shitty little franchises and it sucks :v:
Did AMD actually make a statement on that?
I don't think it was official just leaked info, but it's not hard to connect the dots.

online tests suck ass
because the school's website is so unreliable it's showing I never took a class's final exam which essentially means I failed the class

Yeah, but this is a persistent rumour: https://www.google.dk/search?q=amd+to+stop+making+cpus&oq=amd+to+stop+m&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l5&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8
Even though their recent roadmap didn't seem to include an upgrade for Piledriver, I won't jump on it until we hear something official, or at least something from major sites like Anandtech and Tomshardware.
I have a friend on iiNet. They absolutely love them. Got 2 friends on Telstra though. It really depends on your area/wiring/connection. I would recommend iiNet though.
Just want the unthrottler oh man fucking sick of this shit tier Internet speed (compared to the city anyway), and it doesn't help that we're getting FTTN instead of FTTH. Thanks, Abbott.
Do I buy a 2560x1080 or a 2560x1440 monitor for christmas? It's going to be in the middle of my 1920x1080 monitors (2of them)

2560x1440, definitely. The extra vertical space is well worth it.

21:9 is like computing through an envelope..
Still annoyed that 2560x1080 isn't exactly 21:9.

Any tips on a screen? I've looked at these so far.
