A full comparison for people like me that own the 4870 and want to know how much better this card is. Im going to go cry after this. Ripped this image from: http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5970-review-test/2
Oh haha. I thought my 4870 was a good card until this.
Oh haha. I thought my 4870 was a good card until this.
explain how this makes the 4870 worse. Just because there's better cards it doesn't mean it isn't still good
Oh haha. I thought my 4870 was a good card until this.
Well i mean they quadrupled the number of transistors on the board (in a year. And in 2010 they will of done the same thing to their 6000 series. And for a better comparison here is the nvidia geforce 295
Remember, if the game you are playing doesn't support crossfire, you only get one underpowered 5870. Though most games support it anyway.
explain how this makes the 4870 worse. Just because there's better cards it doesn't mean it isn't still good
It doesn't make it worse, it makes it outdated.
It doesn't make it worse, it makes it outdated.
Well it makes it seem outdated. The only reason you would pay $500 for this card at the moment would be if you did a lot of 3d rendering. If your a gamer chances are you DONT need to get this card for a while. Video games will usually stay with the lowest card for years. Even modern warfare 2 minimum specs are "256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT". So unless you are rendering lots of graphical stuff then you might want this card. However if your buying it for games you don't need to spend the $500 dollars buy a 4870 at $100. Because it wont go outdated till 5 years. In 5 years there will be something 10 times better for the same price.

A lot of people want to max out every game possible. 4870 is a great card but cannot max out every game neither can the 5970 but it sure comes close.
Remember, if the game you are playing doesn't support crossfire, you only get one underpowered 5870. Though most games support it anyway.
Not true at all. My 3870X2 always outperforms a 3870 by a lot regardless of the game supports crossfire or not.
What games can a 5870 NOT max out?
What games can a 5870 NOT max out?
crysis, because nothing can yet. and by max out I mean at least 1920x1080, Very High, 16xAA and AF
crysis, because nothing can yet. and by max out I mean at least 1920x1080, Very High, 16xAA and AF
Because you need 16xAA on a 1080P resolution :downs:
i didn't say you needed it i said to max out
jesus christ nooo :(
I want one but it is to expensive for us Australians. I wonder if it would be cheaper to order off Tiger Direct?
crysis, because nothing can yet. and by max out I mean at least 1920x1080, Very High, 16xAA and AF
Actually I can do that, it might be running at a 10-20fps but I can do it.
the idea of maxing something out obviously also implies a good frame rate during never below 60 is what i consider good
the idea of maxing something out obviously also implies a good frame rate during never below 60 is what i consider good
More like never below 30 buddy. Also maxing out is using 2560by1600 with aa and af maxed.
crysis, because nothing can yet. and by max out I mean at least 1920x1080, Very High, 16xAA and AF
Done already http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa091r-O9YM
That was easy.
Done already http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa091r-O9YM
Can't wait to see what 4 5870's do.
Can you get a 5870 then CF it with a 5970?
Can't wait to see what 4 5870's do.
That is one big overkill

:aaaaa: Can't wait for Crysis benchmarks!

Duplicator tool... NOW!!!
look out ATI.. [editline]12:30AM[/editline] Gf100

yeah. I'm happy for ATI, they're basically a 50 car freight train going a hundred on a straight track. Once GF100 is out, the train will probably have to slow down for the wavy ride.. We'll see. Makes me so excited :downs:
look out ATI..
