I have a wireless modem and a wireless router. My 360 and PC are in different rooms. I don't want to pay 80 bucks for the 360 wireless adapter, so I'm wondering if I could connect my wireless modem to my 360, and my router to my PC?
Would this work fine while maintaining the wireless connection throughout my house? I could try it but I don't want to move all this stuff around unless I know it will work first.
Can you clarify this?

I'm confused.

I'm wondering if I hook up my wireless modem to my 360, and a router to my PC, will that work in creating a connection? In other words will the router connect to the modem and create an internet connection on my PC?
How is shit currently connected?

Wait, is your ISP a cable/DSL provider or one of those funky European wireless broadband providers?

What? No I don't live in Europe.
Currently my modem is hooked up to my PC and my 360 has nothing hooked up to it. I want to move my modem to my 360 and then attach a router to my PC.
So your modem has a wireless access point built in? If so, why would you need to connect the router to the PC?
[editline]02:55AM[/editline]
If you have any wireless-connected PCs in the same room as the 360, just set up a network bridge.

No my 360 is down the hall from my PC so I can't directly connect them. I tried connecting the router to the 360 but it didn't work since only the Microsoft made 360 adapter works.
So I just want to do it vice-versa.
The router isn't going to connect to a wireless network and act as a network switch from that network; it's going to act as a wireless access point.

Answer my question: Does the modem transmit Wi-Fi signals?
what on earth are you trying to do
[editline]02:59AM[/editline]
the router has to be hooked into the modem with a wire

Yea the modem transmits Wi-Fi. It creates a wireless network that works with my Ipod, PS3, etc...
So lemme get this straight:

arrows = flow of intertubes
yea i think that's we he wants to do
Then he's doomed to failure.
Why not just use the modem's WAP?
sorry buddy, that's not gonna work

Exactly. That middle arrow called "wi-fi magickz" would be the hallway as the PC and Xbox are in different rooms.
Would that setup work on both ends? I don't really know much about routers.
[B]edit:[/B] nevermind I see the above posts. So I need to get the xbox wireless adapter for sure?
no it won't
[editline]03:06AM[/editline]
yes
Or connect the modem's ethernet to the xbox and have a wireless adapter in your pc

Is a wireless adapter for pc cheap?
it sounds like the coaxial cable comes into the room with the computer in it
[editline]03:11AM[/editline]
so he would need the modem in the room with his computer

Do you have any of these.

I do, why do you ask?
You'd have to get the wireless adapter in order to do this I think.
I've never heard of a modem with a wireless interface.
[editline]09:28AM[/editline]
That wasn't also part of a router.
What I would do is use a crossover cable to connect the 360 to my PC and use it as an access point.
Did it with my laptop a few years ago, no lag or anything.

Have one going from router to pc, another going from router to xbox, another going from router to modem, and then the modem goes to your wall (to the internet).
The router should have a particular Ethernet jack labeled "Modem" or such, so make sure you connect that one to the modem.
