Yeah, I vehemently disagree with the "let's assume what you wrote have typos, and show other results based on what we assumed you wanted, but not let you decline our 'correction' ".
they have new indexing tech at least it's optional, as it uses more processing
This comment from ArsTechnica pretty much sums up how great Search has become in Windows recently. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/165573/93575cad-621d-483e-9502-a6f5987b6fa5/Screen Shot 2019-01-18 at 11.05.26 AM.png
So I've been having a weird problem after the latest update. When I first try to turn on my computer in the morning, it'll start up but won't load, just shows the Windows logo on a black screen. I have to turn it off and on again for it to actually load. Anyone got a fix for this?
I've just been handling it the same way I handled launching obscure Windows tools in 7 I've just been typing "task scheduler filename" into Google and putting the result into Win+R
can't replicate https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1755/6e910ac3-9a6c-407c-92b8-7572468607c1/image.png
i wonder if it's related to all those telemetry disabling apps people keep using
probably
I'd say not. I've never disable any telemetry and it does it all the time for me. Some updates it's fixed, sometimes it comes back after a new version. In 1803 it was useless, but now it works in 1809.
It hasn't happened to me recently, but I never used any of those apps. It used to happen to me all the time an update or two ago though.
I have dived into the VLSC and I am drowning in Windows 10 versions. Please send help.
Do you have "fast boot" enabled? It causes a S4 power state which causes problems on a lot of motherboards. Make sure to disable it.
I did, apparently. I had just switched it off before the update, too. Gonna have to keep an eye on that.
Speaking of annoying shit enabled by default, the latest update added a """feature""" that automatically starts any programs that were open at the last shutdown, like hibernation but completely pointless since it's still booting from totally cold. Did you have steam, discord, Firefox and Spotify all open at once when you shut down your PC last night? Guess what, you have to wait for all of those things to load when you boot back up. I thought I was stuck with this until I found out that you can disable it in the privacy settings of all places.

Ok well I'm talking about 1809 so whatever you want to refer to that as.
That was added in 1803.
Alright well my computer didn't start this behavior until 1809 so who knows.
You can also disable it via Group Policy starting with 1709. Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Logon Option Policy Name: Sign-in last interactive user automatically after a system-initiated restart Set it to “Disabled”. This feature only occurs though when Windows restarts for updates or is manually initiated with "shutdown /g"
I'm running Enterprise LTSB, anyone else?
So when I wake my computer from sleep mode, it just stays at a black screen until I do a hard reboot. Every google result I found about this just said to disable hybrid shutdown, which wasn't even enabled for me to begin with, so I don't know what to do. Is there anything else I can try? I miss being able to use sleep mode.
my laptop wont detect usb sticks anymore it shows up in device manager with a yellow ! sign
Apparently in Windows 10 Home editions you can now defer updates for 35 days instead of just 7: It looks like Windows 10 Home can now defer updates for 35 days ..
I present the silliest new feature that you'll find in the upcoming 1904 update: Windows 10 Home users will now have light mode enabled by default after a clean install. Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise continues to use dark mode enabled by default. So Home users will be forced to have their corneas seared for about 2 minutes while they look for the Dark mode option.
Okay this a Win 8 question but I don't think it needs a new thread: I booted up my win8.1 transformer tablet thing and I there's a win store application I want to install. My store refuses to download it (says internet connection is too slow?) and none of the fixes online seem to work. (wsreset.exe and other cmd fixes) Am I boned? Its not a ton of money but I paid fifteen bucks for this program so I kind of want it to install, if possible. It the old windows store just borked somehow? I can search up the program and it recognizes I've purchased it, i just get an error message about my internet being "too slow" when I try to install it.
Windows Store on tablet kinda tends to shit the bed for some reason. Which is ironic, because that's what they were designed to do. It was this whole big mess to reset the Windows Update service to get an app to update. It kinda sucks.
Damn. Oh well, it's not a big deal anyway. Interestingly enough I have a duplicate transformer book thing with a cracked screen that has Windows 10 installed. It installs fine on this one but its kind of ironic considering the whole point is to take advantage of multi-touch features and this one has to have touch disabled.
It's a big deal for web devs, this version of Edge will work on all supported versions of Windows effectively replacing IE, and having the Chromium base means less testing (old Edge shit the bed many times). It can't come soon enough.
My new laptop screen is 120HZ, but my laptop refuses to step up from 60HZ. I use a dual processor setup with Intel Graphics HD 630 on the CPU (which renders the display) and the GTX 1050 TI (which renders whatever 3D components thrown at it). I have tried installing new drivers for HD 630 (exe would not work because locked by Acer OEM, so I had to install by zip), which completed successfully yet did not change anything. All help appreciated!
guys has anyone been having extreme hiccups on w10 after the last update? it freezes nearly everything in the computer for a solid 3 minutes or so, not even allowing me to open the task manager right then and there
