surface book 2 (no dGPU)
I think if you can get to the legacy power config tool it should let you go into Advanced settings for each plan to see what it does.
Speaking of this, I dont have this bar on my laptop, I can only set it via the control panel
any idea why?
Are you on 1709?
Nope, 1803
A friend's ASUS FX503 has the bar, and can only choose Balanced in the control panel
An update for me removed Battery Saver and High Performance and I had to add em manually
yeah i think if you've got the old brightness percentages instead of the words, you've got the old power management setup and there's nothing you can do about it
Hopefully I have it if I get a new laptop, I've been looking at some Dell ones, maybe ASUS
oh yeah and this too, know anything about it?
Update from that post, i tried everything and i can't fix the audio issue. I tried nearly everything and the biggest clue is that the issue is connected to either the Windows Multimedia Output or DirectX Audio Output. I wish someone could figure out this problem so i can rest at ease.
Was given a Surface Go as a gift. Like most Microsoft products it's awesome "when it works."
Trying to switch out of "S mode" gives me a "Something happened and we couldn't start the upgrade." message with no means of troubleshooting aside from Microsoft's chat support (who's theory was that a Windows update messed something up, you go Windows).
Then I noticed a few hours in that the kickstand hinges have misaligned themselves somehow, going to have to exchange it for another one tomorrow.

Great first impressions.
So I'll be building a new PC soon, is having a Windows license "tied to my Microsoft account" really all that I need to reactivate it on a new machine? Is there anything I have to do beforehand, like deactivate this one before reinstalling it? I don't have any keys and I've never done this before and I'm super worried it won't work and I'll have to waste $200 on something I technically already own
safest method is to use existing boot drive to boot and activate it, which may or may not ask for a phone call (worst case scenerio). From there you can easily install windows onto new hardware if needed, or format etc.
Windows installers give the option to skip licence key input. But having the Digital liscence tied to your microsoft account means that tech support always just have a point of reference if shit hits the fan. And this is windows, it can do that when you least expect that
Speaking of this, if I activate the licence I have on my laptop on an account, then use it on a desktop will the laptop's licence be deactivated?
No. Plus you can put Windows 7/8 keys into the installer and they'll still work.
My computer will randomly decide to restart if it goes to sleep. It will go to sleep as if normal, but upon waking everything is as if its been restarted. Any one else have an issue like this?
Probabaly a misconfigured bios
That might be Windows Update or Maintenance tasks in Task Scheduler using Wake Timers.
Try turning them off: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/63070-enable-disable-wake-timers-windows-10-a.html
Alright, so I use a PS4 controller on Win10 for when I need it , and I have a game that supports inputs when focus is lost (Which is useful for grinding in Final Fantasy 14) but... it seems that Windows 10 itself refuses to acknowledge inputs when focus is lost on the main window, I'm so confused as to why this is like this.
I didn't read the whole thread, but does anyone else also seem to have performance issues with edge?
after the recent update it got really unresponsive, like when you're resizing the window it takes ages for it to apply it to the website (don't even try to open the debug tools) or if you're hovering over the twitch player it takes like 10 secs to actually show the controls it's getting really unusable recently.
Anyone been experiencing artifacting on startup that goes away?
It's limited to the taskbar area, occurs with different GPUs and monitors.
Also, anyone been dealing with Windows just killing Network adapters?
I've been experiencing that second one for a long time now but I'm just starting to get really sick of having to disable and re-enable the adapter to get it working.
No errors in event viewer, device just says it failed to start. Happens with both ethernet ports on my motherboard as well as USB wireless adapters.
It's sporadic too, never occurs at the same time.
So it turns out Redstone 5 got pulled on October 2nd after the file deletion fiasco and never got a rerelease. I got it before then and it’s been totally fine on my end, the dark mode Explorer is great. I don’t think I can go back to older versions of 10 now after that feature.
open shell:fonts
Considering how much of the Windows UI will never have a dark mode, I think I'll end up preferring the light theme.
It looks great. Almost wish this what the 2015 release looked like.
