371w.
ok now you're making shit up or reading it off a biased website.
http://www.pcpower.com/index.html Accept no substitute.
371w.
500w.
http://www.pcpower.com/index.html Accept no substitute.
Overpriced. Why would I pay $130 for a PSU that is regularly $90-$100?
Overpriced. Why would I pay $130 for a PSU that is regularly $90-$100?
Because they have a higher 80+ certification.
None of them priced at $90 can power my build. At least power it enough for more than just barely.
None of them priced at $90 can power my build. At least power it enough for more than just barely.
80+ Bronze is good enough for anyone whose life doesn't depend on their power supply never failing (ever), in my opinion.
ok now you're making shit up or reading it off a biased website.
Wrong. I already explained how I get that. Convert the amps on the 12V rail(s) to watts, multiply by maximum load efficiency. [editline]05:14PM[/editline]
80+ Bronze is good enough for anyone whose life doesn't depend on their power supply never failing (ever), in my opinion.
80+ doesn't have anything to do with a power supply failing. [editline]05:14PM[/editline]
None of them priced at $90 can power my build. At least power it enough for more than just barely.
The one I linked to can easily.
It has shit ratings. I don't trust it too well.
80+ doesn't have anything to do with a power supply failing.
no, but most power supplies with a high 80+ rating are made with quality components that make failure less probable.
Also, Odellus, the one you suggested after calculating according to your math, I came up with just under 500, but yet you say it can exceed 600w, explain?
Because they have a higher 80+ certification.
Aren't the OCZ PSUs just OEM PC Power & Cooling PSUs?
Aren't the OCZ PSUs just OEM PC Power & Cooling PSUs?
OCZ has loads of different OEMs. Some are Epsilons(FSP), some are Sirtec, etc. [editline]06:36PM[/editline] Here's a list from 2007 (outdated but it shows my point): 3Y Evostream Channel Well ModXStream Pro 400 W FSP GameXStream, ProXStream Impervio EliteXStream Sirtec ModXStream Pro 500 W and 600 W Topower Modstream, Powerstream
Yeah, Odellus, I don't know how you do your math, but the one you linked me too would only give about 460w.
64a = 768w * 0.81 = 622w.
Where are you getting 64 amps from? [editline]09:28PM[/editline] Nevermind, I see. Welp, guess that's the PSU I am getting. And I also learned to calculate a PSU's actual wattage. Thanks.
wait how do you convert amps to watts
Watts = Amps x Volts [editline]10:11PM[/editline] Take the amps, convert them to watts, multiply by the efficiency, and voila, you have your PSU wattage output.
Overpriced. Why would I pay $130 for a PSU that is regularly $90-$100?
You're an idiot, and by all means I certainly wouldn't want you to take advantage of something obviously beyond your capability to understand, like the PSU being THE component that you cannot compromise on in any way shape or form if you expect to maintain optimal system longevity. I look forward to ignoring your future "why did this component fail/what's going on" threads.
It's overpriced. Didn't say it was low quality. I just don't prefer something that I can get half the price for the same quality.
Umm no, it won't be same quality, which is why the price is different in the first place. Apparently you think power just spontaneously generates itself in the purest form inside your magic internet talking box.
hec's orion power supplies are good if you can get one for like $15 off msrp and you're a hobo

Cooler Master all the way
Anyone know how reliable Vantec PSUs are? the tech guy said they were made by the same company that made another popular brand of motherboards. i got a Vantec Ion 2 620W, it wasn't too cheap, and the quality of the unit/cables/packaging are pretty good.
Antecs are right up there with pc power and cooling, which sadly is slowly dying

XFX is a great brand for PSUs. OEMs PC Power & Cooling PSUs I believe.
Still, why spend $130 when you can get something that's still high quality with the same specs for $90.
Because published operating specs don't cover individual PSU component tolerances or power input variance.
27X, after looking at the Silencer Mk 2 650w on the PC P&C website, The most wattage I would get would be around 550. I am not paying 130 dollars for a 550w PSU.
OCZ is your best bet. Cheap and good.
