I feel like there's really no reason not to buy a low end asic, it will pay for itself in time, and eventually turn a profit
Delicious meatballs
Meatballs, Coffee, and Ketchup are already on the list.
I feel like there's really no reason not to buy a low end asic, it will pay for itself in time, and eventually turn a profit
And if you buy a mid-range one, you have more upfront profit and longer guaranteed income with barely more power usage.
I hope you guys realize that all the statistics that those ASIC-selling websites provide apply only and only to the current difficulty. Once these Bitcoin-mining ASICs get released, the difficulty will go up to compensate and mining will still be hard, even with a high-end ASIC.

Exactly, which is why I don't think getting a high end one makes sense unless you're one of the first ones. I Mean it will still be profitable given the efficiency, but it will be slower. It won't magically be better because it's faster.
Right, and with the influx of ASIC miners, the majority is going to be jalapeno machines, so there will still be time for a profit in there [editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] hopefully
I think the key thing is the future, even outside of getting paid off, the efficiency of the units is worth it alone I think. They can keep mining for years without using almost any power. And with the network getting more busy more businesses will be pay transation fees to keep things moving, so it evens out.
But it's not like you're getting a big cut off the cost by going big, you have more to pay off to break even. It won't magically be better because it's faster.
For 4 and 1/3 times the price, you can get 6 and 2/3 times the performance of the Jalapeno, and your miner stays relevant for much longer. If you're only gonna invest $150 might as well consolidate it into actual bitcoins since you're still not risking much. [editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] Or if you want money that bad you can, I dunno, find a job.
asics are cool, but will be quite useless really fast
I'm getting a job. I'm 15. I have expendable income with no expenses of mine own. Why not drop $150 on something that could potentially make me that back and more over the course of a few months? It's not like I have anything better to spend shit on.
I think a smarter choice is to just consolidate the money into actual bitcoins and wait, since bitcoins are going to last much longer than ASICs especially once we start using micro bitcoins in place of full ones.
If I had a good-paying job as a 15 year old, I would've put all my earned money in a bank account with a high interest rate.
If I had a good-paying job as a 15 year old, I would've put all my earned money in a bank account with a high interest rate.
Don't exist.
Don't exist.
I wouldn't necessarily say they don't exist, their payoff is rather pointless and is a horrible way for investment. If I had to invest with banks, I'd just buy some mutual funds.
I thought the computer just... Ejaculated.
10/10 would use lame again to transcode audio.
You just have to learn to decode that noise in your brain.
I feel like doing some more Cricut plotting requests, anyone up for a G+ hangout?
Or if you want money that bad you can, I dunno, find a job.
That hurts...
Finding a job isn't always easy (surprise!)
So my boss is learning about Bitcoin and shit. He's currently browsing Silk Road. From work. I no longer feel guilty about reading Facepunch while at work.

just out of curiosity, how much does a hit cost? ...
I saw some for a bit over $25k or something on some onion sites. Seemed really cheap. If I wasn't homeschooled I likely would have a reason to use it.
Finding a job isn't always easy (surprise!)
Neither is turning a profit from bitcoins, so...
I'm not saying it is I'm just saying I could buy a jalapeno and leave it running with almost zero maintenance costs, and it will pay for itself in time. I don't expect to buy a fucking beamer with it.
Super small question, my memory overheats (100% load) because I am retarded and removed my top fans. I am now going to install the fans back in but I have to choices, to make the fans pull the hot air away from the memory sticks or have the fans blow cold air on the sticks. Which way would be better?
I came across this guy from photon vids. Awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=55Hk7OT6s4Y#t=590s

If you're doing something else (venting from the bottom back, for instance) having the top intake would make more sense.
