Woo, started my project for the hackathon tomorrow. Doing a neat little quick note app where all you have to do is boot it up and type, and it'll save into a list of notes that can be browsed.
I dunno what use it has on tablets, but it's $100 to me, so whateva.
Windows 8 may have made some steps in the wrong direction (tablet apps) but it's still a great OS
I'll give it that; It's not as bad as I expected, but then again I'd rather not run any version of windows.
There's this lovely step though

I wonder where the money is coming from
my merge!!!!
here's an idea:
thinkpad or similar full-size laptop, removable drive bay for an extra graphics card or SSD, and a nice mechanical keyboard
Is that even possible? I've seen some pretty thick laptop keyboards, no idea how large the cherry switch+keycap assembly is, though.
Am I the only one who is sick to death of the Windows 8 hate wagon?
they got rid of the start menu therefore I will never use it.
People like this are the reason windows hasn't advanced much in the past however many years. People seem to bash Microsoft for lack of creativity and innovation, then refuse to try what is offered. The metro interface is not terrible on a desktop. Surprise! it's almost like these OS giants know what they're doing. Weird how that works.
I've found that the majority of people who bash Windows 8 have never bothered to try it, and to that I say; Fuck off.
If you're not willing to try what is offered to you, then you really have no justification to hate on it. You're not using it, don't complain. They don't even bother to try the new option, and yet people complain. If you don't want to upgrade for now, good for you, but for fuck's sake, keep it to yourself. No one gives two shits, no one asked for your opinion on the matter.

Mechanical keyboard isn't really possible on laptops. Stop being so picky, thinkpad keyboards (even the island ones) are good enough for a laptop
Other than the mechanical keyboard, the Thinkpad Y500 fits everything that you've just described

It was just a fantasy, like those silly looking two-monitor laptops.
automerge failed
EDIT:
ffs you ninjas
It was just a fantasy, like those silly looking two-monitor laptops.
As time moves on with thinner and thinner screens, I'd most defentily see it possible where you lift the lid and you slide or flip out a monitor on left and right side for additional monitor space. Or using the same connections the Surface has there are two spare monitors attached to the bottom of the laptop and you click them on like the typepads.
Seem like good and optional ideas.
FUCK.
I spent an hour relearning a few things to make a view in mysql for this lab, then I find out I can't fucking use subqueries within a view. Why can't it just let me execute my shitty code?!
EDIT: Fixed it with a little help from Daft Punk and a self-join.
So I talked with a buddy of mine and he thinks I can use one of these really smaller behringer mixers to power my shotgun and give 48volt phantom power.

They have a 302 which is so fucking cute, but only 1/8th so it's kind of a hobbyiest mixer. I want native 1/4th to drive my recorder.
In the future I'll likely either A) get a 802 with two inputs and outputs, B) get a powerful mic like a NTG3, or C) get a proper preamp thing to bolt to my camera.

I really doubt this is an actual, coherent sentence.
(oh it's audio stuff. carry on.)

I thought that post involved a gun, blender, and big battery
To summarize. My microphone does not pump out a strong enough signal. So my DR40 handheld recorder has to work even hard to boost the signal, but the amplifiers built in aren't that powerful. So I need to get a third device to take the microphone signal amplifiy it, and then feed it to the recorder cleanly.

Sounds expensive.
[editline]5th April 2013[/editline]
Sound's expensive works here too.
I'm so fucking pissed right now. They just charged my card $20 for PlayStation Plus. I would be fine with this... if I didn't fucking cancel the service. The money was supposed to be reserved for something fucking else. This is the first time I try to buy something (Amazon pre-order. Doesn't charge until it's shipped) for myself in about 6 fucking months, and someone has to fuck it over. Thanks Sony, thanks a fucking bunch.
The one day this week I'm out

That a Tascam DR40?
Why don't you get a shotty like an NTG2, put a AA in and try that? It's weird how you ain't getting much out, it's heard it and it's a good device. Maybe you got a bad copy?
