If I get this job the first things I will splurge on is a Lumia 920, an X220, a new motherboard and an i7 and perhaps a SSD.
And sell your t61 to me or something...
I was going to give it to my mum, she has my old Acer aspire shitbox running XP atm.
Oh, forgot. Sorry
So after 31 days of having only 120kbps net at home, we got our new connection [Tears of joy]
Did you move in at TDC's headquarters or what? Where did you get that?
I moved into the internet. [sp]It's called parknet, is only for apartments afaik and costs 65kr/month. A sweet connection.[/sp] Sadly, I can't seem to open ports or anything so I can't host games no mo :c Maybe I could give the ISP a call and ask about it, I'd like to host some things.

Right now we aren't even getting the 20Mbit we're supposed to. Not even close. And it's like TDC cares, really.
Heh. 100/20 fiber connection in my town. Only for apartments. Shit. Houses just get 12/1 max. For cable there is a total monopoly by the ISP. You have a choice of 3G/4G or 16€=1/1, 20€=5/1, 24€=12/1. For apartments with fibre it is 16€=5/5, 20€=50/10, 24€=100/20. Also my school has 100/100mbit connection. All speeds in mbits.
Protip: Don't watch the last episode of Doctor Who. SO MUCH TECH ILLITERACY.
Protip: Don't watch the last episode of Doctor Who. SO MUCH TECH ILLITERACY.
I'm just about to watch it and now I don't want to watch it anymore :(
I'm just about to watch it and now I don't want to watch it anymore :(
This is the intro: [t]http://i.imgur.com/LSo0ffp.png[/t] Mac fucking book, with Vista on it. Oh, and I cringed the whole episode.
I thought her shitty HP laptop was running ChromeOS, but no it was some tacky FUI they chucked together.
Oh, and this *takatakatakataka* HACKED!
I can pay like 20bux and get a "public IP". Do any of you know what the fuck that could mean? [editline]31st March 2013[/editline] I guess it means static, and somehow with a way that means I can host things, but I need to be sure.
Well what did you expect of T.V. shows the entire things about computers is to be the most cringe worthy to us, and to the viewer the most interesting thing. I think that there is a poster that once said that the writers of these shows just make a contest out of it to see who can be the most cringe worthy.
A static IP? Do they have you behind a NAT?
Oh wow. That scene in the intro, where they pick the Wifi Network? It's a page that looks like desktop, probably on localhost.
A static IP? Do they have you behind a NAT?
I guess so, all the IPs my devices are assigned are weird. My external IP is 80.71.135.54 and I think it's already static but the connection is just an ethernet port in the wall. No routers or anything.
Protip: Don't watch the last episode of Doctor Who. SO MUCH TECH ILLITERACY.
honestly a physicist would just off himself if he saw any of doctor who :v: [editline]31st March 2013[/editline] and honestly considering the entire fucking premise for that episode it wasn't THAT bad
I guess so, all the IPs my devices are assigned are weird.
Also, just for your information, it looks like they have ICMP disabled.
Soo, what exactly does this mean for me?
Soo, what exactly does this mean for me?
Nobody can ping your IP.
Also, just for your information, it looks like they have ICMP disabled.
That's a host-level setting, you can disable ICMP filtering. It's on by default on Windows 7.
I'll probably go pay for the "public IP" and see what it does
That's probably static IP. http://www.sysprobs.com/enable-ping-reply-windows-7 Do this and report back.
But I've already disabled the firewall
Then do create this exception on your actual firewall. [editline]31st March 2013[/editline]
Without a router how would you set up a DMZ or port forward?
Well, without a router, I assume you are a talking about a single device or devices connected through a switch?
Without a router how would you set up a DMZ or port forward?
That's exactly what's weirding me out. But why would you need a "public" IP if you can't host anything?
If you only have a single device connected to a non-NATed IP, then you don't need to portforward, since only one device is behind the IP that can answer. Setting up a DMZ would definite require you to have a router.
Maybe it's some weird automatic stuff where whatever device that had a service on a certain port first, gets the port. So if I host something on port 80, you can go to my IP and it just werks
Daily reminder that we still don't have proof from [t]http://i.imgur.com/rwnlzD8.jpg[/t].

So if I host something on port 80, you can go to my IP and it just werks
My guess is that a router or computer connected to the Ethernet port in the apartment will be given a real, non-NAT, IP address and will be properly accessible through the internet like a normal internet connection, so it would be like connecting to a "Dumb" cable modem for example. As of now, I think everyone in the building without that public IP addon would be sharing the same IP address through NAT.
I would have spent all $1200 of my money on bitcoins when they were cheap as fuck had I known they would be $93 a piece now. Holy shit this is insane.
